The first part of the video will show How I cheesed Genichiro Ashina in phase 1 and 2 by trapping him behind the door and spamming the double ichimonnji combat art on him.
The key items and skills needed for this Genichiro guide are the umbrella prosthetic tool, the double ichimonji combat art, and the ability to use combat arts in mid air.
This Boss Fight against Genichiro Ashina was done in a fresh game with attack level 3 and base vitality showing that he can easily be beaten.
The final part of the video will show you how to easily defeat Genichiro Ashina's phase 3 version where he brings out the Tomoe lightning version of himself.
PHASE 3
In this phase, the easy strategy to beat Genichiro will be to run away from him in circles around the stage until he does lightning. Then the aim is to complete a lightning reversal on him to send all the damage back to him.
In this guide, i will show how to easily deflect and complete a lightning reversal on Genichiro Ashina.

I see both Gyoubu and Genichiro as a litmus test for your skill. They throw almost every essential element of the game’s combat loop at you. If you can get past them (without cheesing), you’ll be able to beat the game.

possible helpful tip for anyone trying to do this, even if you have the other upgraded umbrellas, it might be best for you to use the basic umbrella, reason being is that after you block with the umbrella when you initiate the double ichimonji you run the risk of spinning your umbrella costing you an extra spirit emblem. and if anyone is still having difficulty with lighting reversal, jumping when the kanji symbol is fading was helpful for me. jumping too early sometimes doesn't give you enough air time.

nice strat, i've learned how to beat all the bosses the good ole' fashion way, but there is something fun and challenging about trying to come up with cheeses, you also learn a lot about the game mechanics in the processes. i did something similar like this with inner genichiro, but it had little room for error and required not locking on and timing your attack. have you tried this strat with following with the projected force attack after blocking then into the Double ichi? might cut down the time but mainly could possibly preserve spirit emblems.
Thanks. I haven't tried with the projected force, but i did try a few other ways and this one seemed the most consistent. also this is pretty early game so I wanted to try get a strat done with as little skills and upgrades as possible in case anyone doesn't have those skills yet. But yeah, you're bang on.. there is something satisfying about coming up with cheese and easy strats.

😆 'cheese' in English gaming terms means to exploit or take advantage of the game mechanics to make something easy. for example dropping a boss off a cliff when that's not meant to be possible. I don't know why it's called cheese though 😕

Terribly designed boss
Think they purposely made him like this so that we level our selves up for the rest of the game. once you beat him, at least for me, i felt like i technically understood the game mechanics a lot more. people refer to him as a 'skill check' boss.
for beginners don't do that this fight is important to understand how the game should be played
Can't disagree. its a skill check boss fight. if they cheese here, probably will be cheesing the whole game.
Who told you the "normal" chese doesn't work? As far as I'm aware (haven't tried it myself) you should just dead angle him for three hits, then do a normal hit, repeat. No need for combat arts or prostetics.
it was patched so it's a lot harder to do now.
Yeah Phase 3 is just Git Gud Skill Check + Lightning Reversal, not much of a Cheese.
If you cheese Genichiro, you will not finish the game. He’s there to make sure you don’t move forward until you learn the basics. In fact, the real storyline of Sekiro starts right after you defeat him right here.

I just can’t beat this guy no matter what I try so I’m gonna put this game down for good it’s no wonder I quit playing a year ago.
damn bro. don't give up. this guy is a bit of a skill check part of the game.
cheese strats aside, you just gotta fight aggressively. hit him 2 or 3 times and then he'll attack you back in a predictable way that you can instantly parry. the more you run away, the harder it is. then its just about learning what moves he does when you're being aggressive and just getting used to it. once it clicks, you'll be able to complete the game no problem.
