It's very much her decision, Cover actually wanted her to stay, but in the end she wanted to leave to go do her own thing. It's relevant here because without Coco Hololive EN probably would never happen. She's the reason things like this song even exist.

Though hololive is usually a place where everyone jokes around, plays video games, chats, and has a happy go lucky time, I think mori did an amazing job touching on the topic of life, its difficulties, and its value. I feel like the more a person over comes obstacles in life, the stronger they become mentally and can face the future with a more confident mind set. I've faced a lot of troubles with my friends and with myself and I'm pretty sure many of you other viewers have had similar things or even worse. I think this community is a great place to cope with hard times so I thank the people who contribute to this community. Life will go on as it should and troubles that people are facing at one time will eventually pass (sometimes naturally and sometimes you have to overcome it on your own). Either way, good luck to everyone and stay strong.
This may be a bit personal, but you’re actually right. I had a tough breakup months ago, but since then I’ve felt a lot more happier and now I’m able to “Live Again” with a much better mindset. Also stay strong, it may be tough now, but I know *you will* find a way to “Live Again”.
@Kazi I don't know you personally so obviously, I wouldn't know what problem you're going through but what makes you think you're weak? If you feel you're weak because you can't get through your problems, then that makes sense, feeling weak because of those things is common. But are you really as weak as you think you are? I think if the amount that you are working isn't enough to solve your problems, you take a different route or try harder. Even if you tried many different routes and didn't work, there are an infinite amount of other routes. Also, if working your best doesn't feel like it's making a difference then try even harder, give it your 110%.
No kidding, with all the trouble I have gone through recently, the thought of ending it acually cross my mind multiple times. I love Mori's name, it's so clever! :D For those who don't know, mori in Latin means "death", (you might know from the popular phrase in America "momento mori", "remember death"...I wouldn't know if it's a popular phrase anywhere but America, because I don't live anywhere else lol) and Calliope in Greek mythology is supposed to be the "chief" of the muses, who are Greek goddesses that rule over arts and science. Calliope is the muse of epic poetry, like her raps. :) The muses are also very related and known for music, so that fits as well. I don't know if her name's written form in Japanese has anything interesting like that, but if you know please say so!
Mori is a fairly common Japanese family name that literally means "forest." The Mori were a very prominent and powerful samurai clan that controlled a lot of southern Japan during the Sengoku era. So, I don't think it has any meaning in Japanese that's directly death-related, but it's still a cool name with some great history behind it.

It's made even more clear that this is her intended reading because she closes out her streams by saying "I'm your Mori, and I hope you remember me." That's a direct reference to the phrase, which has the loose meaning, "remember death."

My boyfriend sent me this song. I'm not a fan of vtubers but he is. I lost a close friend a few days ago to a possible suicide. We were on off close friends, occasionally losing contact. Im glad to have been her friend and know that she had some sort of trust in me (idk if being part of her close friends list on ig counts but yea). This song has been on repeat for me. I regret not taking effort to meet up with her and my other friends. We had a class reunion at her funeral after 6 years from graduation. Well she's not really healthy. She has said on stream that she has stayed up for 36+ hours straight because she was busy. I think that it ended up being 48 hours straight after the stream ended, but I don't know for sure. I hope she gets a better work-life balance

I don't necessarily like every Mori song, but this one has a special place for me. While I consider Red the best in terms of lyrics, composition, etc, this one is still my personal favorite. I think it's a mix of the nostalgia of hearing this for the very first time (around when Calliope debuted) and the fact that she used to use it as her end song. I just really love it.

I think this is my favourite song of hers. This is probably not the songs actual message, but I see it as accepting death yet still living out your life to the fullest instead of ending it abruptly, aka committing suicide. Hence the "I'm glad I lived today". As a person who was suicidal for a while, and still kind of right now, that's just how I see it since I interpret it with my own experiences in mind. It seems to me like this song is a "goodbye" of sorts to her past life, while also reassuring her old fans that she'll still be here - she's just walking down a different path. Or it's just a song about bittersweet goodbyes and I'm overthinking it. Either way, it's amazing and she should be proud and I'm going to listen to it god knows how many times.

God I love this song for so many reasons. Life is hard and I think we've all had our hardships going through life but often we take solace in the people we care about. Even if it's just a silly crush or unrequited love it feels good to give a damn about someone. And this hit that perfectly. I know for me too this song hits the hardest when that person you care for has to learn to love themselves. You want to do it for them but you can't. And you know after you've talked someone you care about down from some really scary stuff, one of the best things you can hear from them is "I'm glad I lived today." The fact that she's putting out more consistently great songs than even main stream artists is incredible, I honestly can't wait to hear more
She had an entire album ready to go on debut day. So we have about a week more of this before she's released every song she made for it. The fact that she does most of the work herself streamlines the process a lot compared to the other members.

Though hololive is usually a place where everyone jokes around, plays video games, chats, and has a happy go lucky time, I think mori did an amazing job touching on the topic of life, its difficulties, and its value. I feel like the more a person over comes obstacles in life, the stronger they become mentally and can face the future with a more confident mind set. I've faced a lot of troubles with my friends and with myself and I'm pretty sure many of you other viewers have had similar things or even worse. I think this community is a great place to cope with hard times so I thank the people who contribute to this community. Life will go on as it should and troubles that people are facing at one time will eventually pass (sometimes naturally and sometimes you have to overcome it on your own). Either way, good luck to everyone and stay strong.

If you feel you're weak because you can't get through your problems, then that makes sense, feeling weak because of those things is common. But are you really as weak as you think you are? I think if the amount that you are working isn't enough to solve your problems, you take a different route or try harder. Even if you tried many different routes and didn't work, there are an infinite amount of other routes. Also, if working your best doesn't feel like it's making a difference then try even harder, give it your 110%.

For those who don't know, mori in Latin means "death", (you might know from the popular phrase in America "momento mori", "remember death"...I wouldn't know if it's a popular phrase anywhere but America, because I don't live anywhere else lol) and Calliope in Greek mythology is supposed to be the "chief" of the muses, who are Greek goddesses that rule over arts and science. Calliope is the muse of epic poetry, like her raps. :)
The muses are also very related and known for music, so that fits as well. I don't know if her name's written form in Japanese has anything interesting like that, but if you know please say so!
Mori is a fairly common Japanese family name that literally means "forest." The Mori were a very prominent and powerful samurai clan that controlled a lot of southern Japan during the Sengoku era. So, I don't think it has any meaning in Japanese that's directly death-related, but it's still a cool name with some great history behind it.

My boyfriend sent me this song. I'm not a fan of vtubers but he is. I lost a close friend a few days ago to a possible suicide. We were on off close friends, occasionally losing contact. Her dream of a place where everybody cherishes life is initially embarrassing to admit because it goes against “the Reaper mentality.” She understands human emotion as a hindrance to that role, but even so she can’t stop feeling how she does within her present role, and the truth of her heart can’t be silenced, continuing to come out as the song progresses and Mori further embraces her feelings.
She holds notes longer as we reach later into the song, singing the same words more wholeheartedly than before. After all, it was only a matter of time until we became best friends.
The chorus also moves from Mori being happy when we say “I’m glad I lived today” to herself saying “I’m glad I lived today.” The final alteration of these lyrics are also among the last notes of the song and cuts out the middle verse about Mori and the living person being forever. In the end, both Mori and those living by her fully embrace the momentary nature of their meetings and live with the hope of future meetings. “Mata kimi ni aitai” to ittara shiawase. She’s happy when we say “I want to meet again.”
From the moment Death greets us, it’s a slow goodbye. At the start of the song, “The End” follows it closely since it’s more on the mind and Mori continues to affirm that she isn’t sorry about that fact. Towards the end, this affirmation is dropped, “The End” no longer present, and the space now filled with the heartfelt singing of a beautiful moment. And instead of saying she wants to see us again sometime, Mori now assures us that we will.
Ultimately, Live Again is also about Mori’s relationship with her work and all of us. Every time a stream goes up, and she’s live again, we can be there with her to enjoy those moments and look forward to future ones. It’s a perfect outro piece in terms of tone and intent for her streams - especially when reminding us that she’s our Mori, and hopes we’ll remember her, before (Signing Off). After all, this song is a series of short meetings where both parties grow closer after every ending. Well she's not really healthy. She has said on stream that she has stayed up for 36+ hours straight because she was busy. I think that it ended up being 48 hours straight after the stream ended, but I don't know for sure. I hope she gets a better work-life balance

Notes: Made this for myself after finding lots of worthwhile posts in the comments, and also to have a lyric sheet with English translations right by the Japanese lyrics. Having this helped me memorize and sing along with this song, and I’ve definitely come to appreciate the music a lot more while spending time with it. Hope some of you get some use from it too.
Did my due diligence to check the Japanese sections and translate, but if you notice something’s off, please let me know. I’ll verify and update.
EDIT 1: Added readings for "sorosoro" and a small note on the reasoning. Also realizing I didn't translate "jaa, mata," so added that for more completeness. Given that it's informally/colloquially used for "See you later," there's more to appreciate in that line since meetings and farewells always hold weight for Mori.
EDIT 2: Updated readings on "sorosoro" to replace the more foreboding translations with ones that felt more fitting to the song. Also updated the note to mention the foreboding nuances in other translations, such as "before long" and "at any time." More on this in the replies below. Edit: so I listened to the part at 1:40 without looking and heard “shinzou” (心臓) which is heart but checked again and the lyrics say “shinjitsu” (真実) which means truth/reality. Most people I know didn't like rap at the beginning. But as they listened they started to like more and more. I wonder why that is.

I don't necessarily like every Mori song, but this one has a special place for me. While I consider Red the best in terms of lyrics, composition, etc, this one is still my personal favorite. I think it's a mix of the nostalgia of hearing this for the very first time (around when Calliope debuted) and the fact that she used to use it as her end song. I just really love it.

I think this is my favourite song of hers. This is probably not the songs actual message, but I see it as accepting death yet still living out your life to the fullest instead of ending it abruptly, aka committing suicide. Hence the "I'm glad I lived today".
As a person who was suicidal for a while, and still kind of right now, that's just how I see it since I interpret it with my own experiences in mind. Overall this song makes me cry lol. I love Calli. And sorry for my bad english
Calli, like every great artist, wants you to have your own interpretation and meaning of her work. I think your interpretation is beautiful, and as someone who also struggled with suicidal tendencies, I hope you find happiness. It's hard, but life is definitely worth living.

It seems to me like this song is a "goodbye" of sorts to her past life, while also reassuring her old fans that she'll still be here - she's just walking down a different path. Or it's just a song about bittersweet goodbyes and I'm overthinking it. Either way, it's amazing and she should be proud and I'm going to listen to it god knows how many times.

God I love this song for so many reasons. Life is hard and I think we've all had our hardships going through life but often we take solace in the people we care about. Even if it's just a silly crush or unrequited love it feels good to give a damn about someone. And this hit that perfectly. I know for me too this song hits the hardest when that person you care for has to learn to love themselves. You want to do it for them but you can't. And you know after you've talked someone you care about down from some really scary stuff, one of the best things you can hear from them is "I'm glad I lived today." Thank you Calli, deadbeats in aeternum.
It's really impactful for me that even when her character is all about taking life and reaping souls, she creates a song that shows the realities of how precious life is.
