Tesla, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes are popular EV car brands in Japan. While they have advantages such as quiet running noise and high safety standards, they also have disadvantages such as long charging times and a lack of fast charging stations. In Singapore, everyone start by purchasing a COE (Certificate of Eligibility) from the government, which seems like a hassle. However, as you can see in this video, the motor show is crowded with participants, and when they have the opportunity to actually ride and touch the cars, adults and children alike are always smiling. We think the number of users will continue to increase in the future! 🌟 The immersive video, which carefully captures the structure of the car models and even the expressions of the people enjoying them, transported us to the motor show! We enjoyed it at the digital office…. Yosh and Iku
Almost nobody purchase COE on their own as the car agencies will purchase them. When you buy a car, the price of COE is included in the package. Singapore is moving slowly but steadily towards EV adoption. Singapore is the most expensive city in the world to buy a car. Yet people are still buying cars as this is a necessity. Car shows are always well attended. People also attend to see the new technology. From the video we see smiles as people touch and feel the cars. Thanks Yosh and Iku for your comments.
I have the means, I will choose the U9, the dancing car. Their promo video says that besides reaching 100kmh in 2.36 secs, this car can also jump over pot holes . You have to see their video on the web. ua-cam.com/video/zIKAn8yDkpA/v-deo.htmlsi=__v9pnwYXlf3fftr
@@SingaporeCityWalks Amazing! I know that driving in Singapore is very expensive, and most of the vehicles on display were upmarket ones. I'm surprised that Singapore doesn't adopt the idea of the Japanese Kei cars - small but useful and inexpensive, and very economical too. In a crowded city, they seem ideal, and similar models are popular in China, too.
Singapore practices zero car population growth. That means a car needs to be scrapped before a new car is allowed on the road. If say 1000 cars are scrapped per month, there will be 1000 Certificates of entitlement (COE) made available to purchase new cars per month. Because of tight supply, people have to bid for the certificates (through the car dealers). Due to limited supply and high demand, the COEs have ballooned to S$100k. Therefore if the COE costs $100k, it makes no sense to buy a car that costs $20k right? People will buy a car that's more expensive, like $100k. So total cost becomes $200k. Therefore your suggestion of adopting cheaper Japanese Kei cars will not succeed in Singapore. By the way, the COE is valid for only 10 years. If you like to keep you good car after 10 years, you have to fork out another $100k to bid for a new COE. So almost nobody keeps cars older than 10 years. You only see new cars on Singapore roads. Taxi certificates are valid for 7 years only. Now you know why the Singapore Government is rich. They keep collecting money from the people and businesses through indirect taxes like this.
@@SingaporeCityWalks That sounds crazy! So cars are only for the very wealthy - that would cause a revolution here! I guess with such limited space there is some good reason for it, but making money the only real factor in who may have a car seems very unfair.
They did not participate. I read that they are having road shows at Water Point (6-12 Jan) and Marina Square (9 -12 Jan) which coincides with the Singapore Motorshow.
To avoid traffic issues, I realised same EV the price in Singapore can be more than 4 or 5 times more expensive than that in China, but this is realy ridiculous to be honest. The government and car dealer smile at last, but rich Singaporean are silent but sadly suckers
My heart bleeds when I see all these new car brands. An oversupply, no more traditions, no more independence, similar designs, without real emotions. And what has become of Mercedes, BMW or Audi? Only built to please the Chinese market.😭
Surprised and disappointed not to see Volkswagen present at this exhibition or maybe you didn't want to showcase one of the world's biggest car brands.... what a pity....
