Could you analyze Dvorák’s new world symphony? It’s one of my favorite pieces of all time by my favorite composers and has been such a big influence on modern cinema music.
In most of baroque instrumental music, a piece is supposed to reflect an affect or a passion, per the theory of rethoric. Bach himself applied the rethoric principles in his compositions, in particular in the late ones where he tried to better comply with the galant style in fashion toward the mid century. So the Four seasons are more about the mood and the passion generated by each of them, of which some specific programatic elements (like the storm) help to build a realistic picture. There are plenty of programmatic pieces in baroque music from Froberger, Couperin, Rameau, D'anglebert though mainly in the keyboard area rather than orchestral. The affect was associated with specific musical components of which the key. Though each composer would have a different interpretation. Vivaldi was clearly associating certain keys with certain affects. G minor is the most frequently used minor key in his concerti. It generally associates with feelings such as anxiety, dispair, and sometimes fury, all of which apply well to the summer concerto.
It would be interesting to look at Beethoven's 6th Symphony as well, as I understand it is also program music and I must say one of my favourites. Liszt Ballade no. 2 would be also interesting:)
winter is my favorite season. I'm curious to know if you've heard of Tchaikovskys piano nocturnes, if you haven't.. give it a listen! I enjoyed this episode
That was great fun! I’d love you to talk about the first piece I ever fell in love with as a child.....Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1! My parents had this Van Cliburn album and I used to play it over and over until they made me stop. Lol. Van Cliburn won the first ever International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia back during the Cold War days, so it was a big deal at that time for an American to play a Russian composer in Russia and WIN!!! He went on to play for every President from Harry S. Truman to Barack Obama. It’s understandable, I guess, why this piece and the album moved me so much....
Great video! But if you talk about baroque music, it would be even greater if you featured a baroque Orchestra because this has a more original Vivaldi -sound... Yes, I'm a historical performance practice nerd... Also the baroque Orchestras give often a much more vivid interpretation, so the music won't be boring at all
I really enjoyed this video and the concept of analising the different concerti. Perhaps you could do something similar for Tchaikovsky's 'The Seasons' too, I like that collection a lot. Too bad that june has already passed since that one is my favourite XD
Hey Ms. Alicia! I am just new to piano and I'm progressing through your preparatory lessons but you mention the damper pedal a lot of times in those videos. We don't really have music stores in our place (Btw I'm from Philippines). So is it okay if I play the pieces you showed us without the damper pedal?
Can’t wait for winter! ❄️⛄️
Winter is coming.

Love this kind of videos. You're like my virtual music appreciation teacher. Awesome!
I’ve almost never been this early to anything... even my piano recitals!
You're amazing. Thank you so much for all of your really lovely and educational videos!
Having you talking about Vivaldi was truly like a dream came true. Of course I'd be waiting for the other seasons❤ Keep up the good work!

Perfect gift! !!
Oh, you should definitely do one on Debussy and the Romantic Era!!!!!
It's interesting the different take people have on the seasons. Summer probably wasn't one of his favourite seasons. :)
I'm learning the 4 seasons at the moment, thanks for such an informative video about some of the meaning behind the pieces.
Cant wait for spring 😢
This is awesome Allysia. ❤

Allysia, can you do analysis on Antonio Vivaldi's 'la stravaganza no.2' and Niccolo Paganini's 'caproce 24'. Thank you.

Can you please do an analysis on Bach Harpsichord Concerto In D Minor?
Please make a simplified version of all the 4 seasons for piano thanks
