They have known for years that they were losing this battle with mother nature. I think it is a significant reason that Daytona Beach is unable to get any major redevelopment underway in the area. Without that beautiful wide sandy beach Daytona is just another old run down town.
Maybe if that state legislature would have worked out the insurance problem rather than writing themselves raises they'd be able to properly support their constituents!
They don't want to spend the money to properly rebuild those dunes. Taxes will go up LOL. Now they'll beg for more of that sweet sweet FEMA money... aka socialism.
@@smoknn77 Hi Smokin. Both of the properties you have mentioned are old. The Hard Rock is a remodel of the Desert Inn that was built in 1958. And the Plaza is a continual remodel of a property that was originally built in 1911.
No concrete foundation no concrete beams no pile driving .Only a retaining wall against the sea. What did they expect? The contractors ,owners should get a good look in the mirror!!! Living at the beach can be dangerous so take good precautions!!!
On Hutchinson Island the sands blew away and uncovered ancient Native American burial mounds today. The authorities are gathering them up so they won't be swept away and are taking them to the university.
Flooding both coastal and along our rivers have mirrored Irma in some places. Hope this is the last one. Weird with almost none then two stinkers! Never assume you can control Mother Nature or out wit Her. Lol!
@@danm9830 What the heck does this have to do with not being able to afford it? It is about not being stupid enough to live in a place that gets destroyed by hurricanes. I wouldn't live there if I got paid for it.
Mangroves are moving north and are holding a lot of the land in place in the sea islands and northern coastal areas. Mangroves and artifical barrier island like structures cold stop a lot of the erosion. We need to pan ahead like the Dutch.
Oh, please! Seriously? Mother Nature is not controllable no matter what you do. Believing that is fantasy and one earthquake, tornado, flood, hurricane, etc away no matter where you live.

Well FLORIDA coastal properties are really an ecological Ponzi scheme 😂 and MAGA is fully loaded up on these properties 😂
Im in Deltona, if this keeps going.... I'll have beachfront property soon.... 😅
"The wise man built his house upon the rock"
Sadly not too many rocks in Florida but coral. We got a lotta sand down here.
@@janetprice85 Sadly the wisdom of building his house upon the coral isn't well defined.
built on sand pile. whoda thought it might wash away?
Florida is sand. Fun fact. One of the few states with no gold. But we do have sharks teeth for collectors. We have to go to Arizona for gold.
Barely recovered from Hurricane Ian now this. How sad. Stay strong Florida 🙏

Really makes you see how asinine and arrogant it was to build so close to the water. But what should I expect from builders in Florida.
Slip sliding away
Look at all the once hidden pipes extending into the ocean!
I wonder what was in them
Those are weep hole pipes that are used to drain water that gets stuck behind masonry. Nothing nefarious about them ...

The Floridian inland will be worth more and more as it slowly becomes oceanfront property in 1000 years.
More like in 10 years.
In dinosauer days Florida was islands like the keys.

It’s like moving out to the desert and being baffled by water shortages.
I have been going there for 25 years plus on weekends to enjoy the pool and bar. This is a sad day !
Is this the Hawaiian Inn condominium?
The pool will be much bigger, Atlantic ocean 🌊 will own Daytona.
Good. Take it down. Shouldn't build on the waterfront to begin with.
That’s normal when u build on a sand base😂😂😂😂😂🤬🤬🤬
The sea takes back what is there's...
I used to drive on that beach in the 80s, it was very wide. Some of the best days ever!
Give it a couple years and Florida won’t exist

What do landowners do when there is no more land?
Learn to swim
houseboats
This state is becoming unhabitable. Insurance denying claims, paying thousands for lawyers. Time to leave.
Don’t worry folks MAGA will rebuild and repeat 😆
So sad we stayed there last November and loved it
Thats why you don't build on the beach
Its real easy to criticize beachfront living when you cant afford beachfront living..

Between all the hurricanes and sea level rise Florida is in real trouble 😳

Too much concrete and asphalt, you deserve this Florida, I predict most of Florida will be part of Atlantic ocean 🌊 and soon, within 5 years
