It amazes me that both Wille and the Australian who also won his VC in Afghanistan were both huge men and how the Taliban were unable to shot them I do not know.
Proud as it must be for him and his family those alongside him. Sometimes people don't want to receive high profile award. It's a pain on the ass. People know who you are and you're expected to condust yourself right at all times in the public eye. This is just my point of view I'm an average Joe with a 9-5 day job. Even Celebrities getting hounded I don't want something like that in my life.
Yeh, well the Australians VC recipients from Afghanistan all had the choice if they accepted it or not, I geus they would have had some pressure put on them to take it, but all the books I've read about Mark Donaldson VC, Ben Robert Smith VC, MG, both of the SASar,Daniel keirghan V¤-6 RAR and Cameron Baird VC (posthumous) MG 2nd commando regiment (his family) all decoded to tale the award for their slain mates and for the unit and the units history... Nd due to protected identity status it would mean that these guys would have to stop being operators and take more of a desk job and be used as a bit of propaganda for lack of better words .. I know mark Donaldson accepted lf he could continue to deploy as an oppo
@@diggergaming7174 Make some great points here. It must be weird to recieve an award for time in combat. After knowing friends alongside you equally heroic and dedicated that maybe didn't get any recognition. Cheers for the vids and I'm keen to read some of those books. ANZAC hard.
July 2024, just found this link. Can you please refrain from the adjective "winning" the Victoria Cross. He was awarded / bestowed by the Queen - of highest honour. Thank you.
Good effort mate, whats with all the nit pickers here carrying on about about its "awarded" not "won" like its disrespectful or something, my Grandfather "won" a DCM in WWII i doubt he would give a damn how you address it i imagine he was more grateful he never got his head blown off "winning" it.

look up Sir Charles Upham
Meet Willie while i was an ATC cadet. He was an absolutely nice bloke
Charles Upham, VC and Bar set the standard. Willie reminded us why.

The VC you win, the medal of honor you earn.
What, My Uncle nearly got one, he refused it carrying his platoon back in North Africa,
Good video lad
No one “wins” a VC
I agree with the previous comments, not to take anything away from willie but Charles Upham was our 1st VC with bar
Both for bravery... important.
