    Really accurate review. It’s worth noting that, unlike most other large ski resorts in the west, Northstar was originally planned and developed by an industrial company (Fiberboard, Inc. I believe) rather than a ski resort entrepreneur like Alex Cushing or Dave McCoy. This may explain the rather sanitized and engineered feel of Northstar. It was designed as a strictly money making operation by a wood products company with some spare land on their books, not by a skier with a crazy dream.

    Tahoe locals call it "Flatstar". If you are a typical weekend intermediate skier it is a good resort. And it offers bike lifts during the summer.

      Ha, glad the good stuff at Northstar is still not "known" for some reason, will keep it that way. I like being the only person on them, even on crowded days

      The Flatstar moniker traces back to decades ago before Backside, Promiseland, and Outlook (Martis Camp) lifts were built. No double diamond runs, ha, Prosser Run off of Martis Camp is as steep a run as Heavenly Valley's legendary Gunbarrel.

    Really accurate review. first off I worked at northstar for the 23/24 season and loved it. so im biased towards the resort. But everything you said makes a great point. its excellent for intermediate skiers. however there are very few runs that are black. and fewer still that deserve the title. The terrain is fairly simple and its a mainly west facing mountain so afternoons can get really annoying. its a great place to learn glade skiing as the certain parts off the glades can have trees feet apart and others barely the width of 2 snowboards. The lifts are great, and the main factor in there occasional slowed down speed is the lake wind. but all in all I love the mountain and look forward to going back!

    I enjoy the odd trip to Northstar.... My mum loved it when I took her - but she is intermediate.... for advanced skiiers you should target days where you think tree skiing or moguls are going to be good. We often go there during the spring skiing...

    One thing about NorthStar is it has good wind protection. Many other resorts will be on wind hold all day and North star will be open with the exception of the backside. Although if the storm rolling though is not that cold it can be raining on you.

    So um.... Are there any "dispensaries" around tahoe? And if so, do ppl trip out on it if they smell the "aroma" 😤😁

    • @thef1lm47
      @thef1lm47 2 роки тому +4

      people smoke all the time on the mountain. difference is, its generally limited to weed vape pens so the smells isn't as strong & doesn't linger. You can probably get away with smoking a doob in the parking lot if there's minimal traffic & people aren't getting ready around you, but just remember there are always hella kids out here. Parents won't be appreciate lol. Cop a stiizy like me & chief on the lifts lol
      (also, yes there are a few dispensaries in tahoe. use weedmaps to take your pick)

    No NorthStar for me. It is an exhausted exercise to walk closer to a mile from the bus stop to the gondola with ski boot on and carry all the gears, game over when you fall down and busted your knees before you get to the slope.

    Sierra has the best park in Tahoe. Northstar and Boreal tie for 2nd place.

    agreed on the stupid wealth crap, it's a Vail resort now, used to be super local and it didn't have very good terrain, now, well, yeah, sure, please go elsewhere - suffice it to say, there is something at this resort no other resort in the Tahoe Basin has, I'll leave that up to you to find out, but please don't
