Altai Saker Falcon of a special dark color. Without human help, these birds can disappear forever. For three years in a row, employees of the Russian Raptor Research and Conservation Network have been helping to restore the Altai Saker Falcon population. Twenty falcons arrived at the beginning of summer in the Ubsunurskaya Kotlovina nature reserve. Chicks are about a month old. They were incubated and fed by Saker Falcon females living in captivity in nurseries. Vitasfera in Moscow and Altai-Falcon in Barnaul. Now babies will have to live in the wild in their natural habitat. Ornithologists go on an expedition before planting fosterlings. It is important to identify the nests in which wild pairs of Saker Falcons have hatched chicks this season. This is the future residence of the nursery falcons. Saker Falcons do not build nests themselves, but occupy the nests of other birds. In autumn, to help falcons, ornithologists established special artificial nesting sites. These are open platforms and duplons - boxes with a roof. Such nests are better protected from wind and rain. Falconies will not fall out of the duplon to the ground, which often happens in natural nests. This spring, five artificial nests were inhabited by Saker Falcons. Other bird species occupied all other platforms and duplons.
