The final piece is Chopin's Ballade no. 1 in G minor, op. 23, one of the most enthralling classical pieces imo, chopin composed it when he was depressed It depicts the composer's nostalgia for his homeland, since Poland was in the uprising against the Russian empire at that time. There are even some assumptions that Mickiewicz's poem “Konrad Wallenrod” was the direct inspiration for the Ballade Op 23. Highly suggest that you check that piece, wonderful stuff.
Seconded, this ballade is so amazing and fascinating. Not quite related to the episode content, but to anyone who enjoys this piece I also 100% recommend checking out Yuzuru Hanyu skating with it at the 2018 Olympics. Incredible performance
Some Easter eggs, the lively middle part of the performance piece where kaori is dancing is actually a waltz, hence kouseis and kaoris waltz referenced at the end of ep 18. Also, during his performance, kousei is now above the water which contrasts to himself earlier in the series where he was stuck underwater, signaling his growth. I thought these were super interesting details that the writers incorporated in this episode, truly beautiful
FYI: There are a few lies that actually involved April.... 1. She told a lie in what is believed to be in April about her liking Watari 2. By the time Arima realized his feeling towards Kaori, she did not make it to April in the show. 3. One must remember that this show is a Winter 2014 series. As such, the show ended a few week prior to April 2015 so we, the audience, did not get a chance to experience Kaori in April as well. As for symbolism, I've read in other comments that the chaotic scene within the final performance regarding Kaori prior to her disappearing is to symbolize the chaotic nature of a dying star.
14:47 Carlie and Ange think they've reached the saddest point of the episode, not knowing the letter is coming. Why can something so bittersweet be so sad at the same time? That picture gets me every time...
Wacci - the soundtrack that plays while Kaori''s letter was being narrated was saved in my playlist after I finished this series. Everytime it plays, I remember her and this beautiful story 🥲
Usually I don't really cry when I'm sad or emotional, but man this anime broke me. When they started the letter I cried my eyes out for like 30 minutes after the episode ended. One of the best animes out there, definitely one of those that you wish you could watch again for the first time. Beautiful.
As much as absolutely heartbreaking this ending and the show is, on a positive note, too, I think I've never seen a more beautifully done "death scene" as Kaori playing the violine one last time with Kousei again and then slowly fading away into petals 😢 Such a wonderful wonderful show 🥰
Another April is coming without Kaori, this has been since 2014 when I saw the anime. I remember that in the last chapters the animation studio did a dynamic on Twitter where they said that if a certain number of tweets was reached, "a miracle" could happen in the anime, we far exceeded the challenge but no miracle happened 😣
I'm one of the people who picked up the piano inspired by YLIA and the first piece I ever learnt was 'Again'. That ost has a special place in my heart & it still gives me chills to this day whenever I hear it or play it. Well, I had a great time watching you guys react to by far my favorite anime and it was interesting to pick up quite a few things from 2 different perspectives at the same time. Fuck man I'm crying 😭😂 Thank you guys for watching this show.

I am so happy the first time I saw some people are reacting to this anime again. I remember I was so happy to go on the journey with you this time as I have watched this for like 5 times already. And now I can't believe you're able to finish the series nowww! I loved your reactions ever since!
I love how the song kousei plays goes along with the story line. Sad happy sad. This is by far my favorite anime it took me watching it like 10 times for me to not shed even a single tear. Crushing but also some of the best music and visuals in anime. The peanuts quotes were great too. The fact that this came out in 2016 but has better visuals and storyline than a lot of newer anime is wild.
I had to watch 3 times, just to complete this series, for instance: on my first watching, I watched 7 episodes, on second watching, it was 11 and on my final watching, I rewatched the entire series, from start to finish. And, to be honest, this was one of the best series I had watched ever since I started watching anime, and also one of the rare ones which left a irreplaceable impact in my conscience. But, it is also safe to say, that it is among those rare series whose reactions I dare to watch, because it becomes more heart-wrenching later on the series. In the end, keep watching and reacting series like this.
Bro, i watched this at a low point of my life, i can't even describe how much i cried, and i don't ever regret it, despite being destroyed for 1 week after watching it, i somehow felt really better than before.
@@pedrovieira8363 Absolutely. Although, I watched Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai a few month prior to it, so I didn’t feel quite as much pain as I thought so, but still it was painful, especially the letter and the reminiscence sequence in the end. That scene really pulled the last heartstrings out of me, reminding me of the Diary scene and the post credit scene of Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai. The use of Chopin's Ballad is more appropriate then you can imagine for music choice given the context many people have given it over the years. It was said to be Chopin's most beautiful work because it was the piece he wrote when he had accepted he was going to die from his disease. If you listen to all of Chopin's work you can practically see his life play out from his first to his last piece of music and even felt what he felt in each one. His ballad was written to be played before Royalty but the piece itself almost feels like an expression of life itself. All the strife, all the pain and all the fleeting joy before the end, a celebration of life and the inevitable end that comes with the ballad. A true masterwork if there ever was one. Your lie in April using the Ballad as a means to express Kaori's end was truly a heartbreaking marvel.
Yep it's just as you said - this anime inspired me to take piano lessons, I used to mess around with it a bit before but once I fell in love with this show I had to learn it :)
What breaks my heart everytime is how them never being able to properly perform together reflects their romance. Loved your comments on this old favourite of mine. Thanks

Every time he reads the letter… it destroys me. I start crying, no matter how many times I watch it. Its the only anime I rewatch every single year, on April, just to cry.

haven’t finished watching the discussion, but i just noticed that when Kaori was on the phone with Kousei, she says that they are connected by the sky, because no matter where they were, they could look at the sky and know they’re both under the same sky. and in the final episode, they are not physically together, but emotionally they are, and they are animated in the sky. another reason to cry 🥲

first time i watched this back in highschool, i was so in denial, i didnt fully realize kaori died after like a week. I replayed the last episode for a few time in that week, until the realization hit me like a truck and i was so gloomy for a while. It definitely hit way harder when u already experienced losing someone that u love. Like a double truck hit honestly lol, the sad scene from the anime plus the old painful memories rushing in.
This work really made me sad when I finished it. It left a hole in my heart. I hope you liked it as much as I did. I would also like to see your reaction to Hajime no Ippo, the best sports work.

One of the few shows which changed me for better. Both of you had great insights regarding ylia and I'm really thankful for that. Try watching Anohana too someday 😊.
I inadvertently finished this show in April of 2021. Have yet to determine if that made the experience better or worse. I hadn’t watched any romantic or emotional animes before it, but the series I finished before Your Lie ended on such a ghoulishly lacklustre note that I deliberately set out to watch something a bit more out of my comfort zone so I would actually feel something. I have yet to watch the ending without crying, today included. Her ending the letter apologising to Kousei always gets me the worst, even while I’m already crying. Thanks you guys for these videos, I always enjoy revisiting these shows I’ve loved through (Even the ones that leave me heartwarmingly heartbroken in the end)

I don't know if you guys will see this comment or not but I hope you guys get to react to "5 centimeters per second" a movie by Makoto Shinkai
every time i'm watching this show (maybe the 11th time ) i'm litteraly dying inside so beautifully made but so heart breaking
Sad fact: For an anime about music, the saddest song they did was played on my heartstrings. 😢😢😢
first time i watched this back in highschool, i was so in denial, i didnt fully realize kaori died after like a week. I replayed the last episode for a few time in that week, until the realization hit me like a truck and i was so gloomy for a while. It definitely hit way harder when u already experienced losing someone that u love. Like a double truck hit honestly lol, the sad scene from the anime plus the old painful memories rushing in.
Same. I was about to start my bachelors when watched this. can't believe it's been so long
18:42 Carlie just got triple anime replayed in the feels
Kono Oto Tomare is also a good music anime. Underrated gem but y'all would love it for sure.
If you guys are looking for another heartbreaking music show, please try Kono oto Tomare it’s a truly beautiful series
This work really made me sad when I finished it. It left a hole in my heart. I hope you liked it as much as I did. I would also like to see your reaction to Hajime no Ippo, the best sports work.
Hippity Hoppity, your tears are now Kaori's property...
I don't know how is the copyright thing is (if it's heavier than most animes or not), but if you didn't watch it, I highly recommend "a place further than universe". It's one of my favorite animes of all time
You guys suffered too much during this reaction... so to cheer you up you should watch March comes in like a Lion !👍
Best anime of 2014
Difficult to decide as there were
Fate/stay night
No game no life
Parasyte
Haikyuu!!
Ping Pong The Animation
Mushishi
Another April is coming without her 😭
25:30 it'll be a longer than a month bc April is right around the corner......
And April without Kaori
If this makes y’all feel better, I cried again watching the reaction…
Finished it on the last day : 30th April, 24 😭🌸
Sayonara !! See you again next year
Man, this show is really heart breaking
And im still waiting for you guys to react Delicious in Dungeon
I can never watch the end without crying...
Just to add in case you guys don't know, there is one more episode left :)
I actually wanted to see if people were having the same reaction as me when i first saw it, and now i'm fucking crying again
The reason why my april is not the same anymore...😢❤😢❤
