Thank you for taking the time to make this very useful video.
When you rounded your lips into an "o", I suddenly understood.
    I wasn't breathing properly.

I was right with you until you implied that the diaphragm was also involved in air compression. The diaphragm can't control both inhalation and exhalation. The abdominal muscles are employed to properly compress the air. It may be clearer to introduce the abdominal muscles at some point to complete the cycle of inhaling and blowing for trumpet.

    Hello Eric,
Thank you, your videos are excellent. I now have a detailed understanding of how the diaphragm is to be used. Would you please, in the near future, consider explaining your thoughts on how to create compression and breathe out. Your video on blowing was also very helpful but I for one struggle with proper exhalation.
    Thanks again,
    Come Back Player,

Exhalation is tricky...I will make a video of my thoughts, and some exercises soon. As far as now...Herbert Clarke used to say...play a note...and hold it as long as you have air, then a little further until the horn starts to shake and you can't get out another second of sound. In this way, you can unconsciously train your body to exhale properly. Do this every day, and playing becomes a lot easier.

I'm certainly looking forward to your next video in this series. I definitely have trouble when it comes releasing the air. It's been quite the struggle actually. I can't seem to get that relaxed and focused air stream, and because of this my throat tenses and my range suffers. I'll definitely be taking your advice from your videos, but anymore help would be much appreciated.

I have the exact same problem when I play. My neck gets tense whenever I try to release the air, and it has an effect on my tone in range. Hopefully, I can start changing that keeping things from this video in mind.

Hopefully you're still on tgis channel, is there a way to do this by breathing a bit faster, for like fast songs with little time for breath?

Fantastic video thank you but I really need to increase my endurance. I play for one hour and then my lip is done. I am not using my diaphragm. Where I can learn how to activate my diaphragm bear thing. David Storey

I breath in and feel like my lungs still aren't full. Abs tight? Explain that set up please. Should Abs be tight?

First I'm a trumpet player and the thing I've noticed is when I sit up from lying down there is a long thick muscle down the center of my stomach I use to be mad because I couldn't develop my stomach into a six pack.

Eric, enjoy your videos. However, the diaphragm is an involuntary muscle that cannot be physically controlled. Was this factored into your video? I get the sense (in watching) that you are advocating for trying to manipulate a muscle that we as humans can't. Again, some great ideas in the video, but that concept is a slight deal breaker when it comes to showing my students this specific video.
Love the vids, they've helped tremendously to explain some concepts that were hazy over the years. Keep them coming!
