    One thing I noticed that is often missed, and if you have owned older Breville machines, you will understand. This has BOILER DRAINS ! Right behind the steam wand out front, and by your waters hardness it can tell you when to descale. This is a MUST have for Long term durability. The drains have a Double rubber plug, right in front!! Cant be easily seen at 5.52 in this great Video!

    Nice to see such a well-presented product review. I have just bought one (two minutes ago) online from a local B&M retailer here in Australia (3am Friday 20th May). Pick-up (click 'n' collect) is after 12:30pm today. I'll pick it up on my way home from work today.

      Russell Gunn how is the textured milk for lattes? I am considering buy this machine. I spend about $300 to $400 every month at Starbucks so something like this would be well worth it for me. I have at least 2 latte macchiatos or flat whites every morning. Sometimes more later on and even at night. Is there any thing you don't like about this machine?
      I bought the Saeco Xelsis EVO, which is pretty good. But the milk carafe doesn't make anything but foam. For my lattes I have to texture the milk myself. I tried the hot milk option and it comes out luke warm. I returned it.

    Would be great if you showed the different settings and usage of the settings within the menu. Also please discuss (for newbies like me) some of the common terms such as connical bur, what it does, and why it's better to be able to pull that piece out, etc. Thank you for a great review.

    I've been tempted to get a new coffee machine for ages but with retail stores in sydney mostly don't even demonstrate the use of a machine (probably for good reason, staff high on caffeine), I wanted to know how well it operates on things like noise, and ease of use. These videos with this one and others made by Phil showing the extreme side of over grinding and under just demonstrates the product so well that can clearly help people like myself decide on this well constructed machine.
    I have to admit I haven't watched all of these videos but I think at this price, having personal profiles of settings would be nice. so a latte for me may be saved for myself and a latte the way my wife likes it could be saved in settings profile for her..etc..

      their newer Oracle Touch has just that! They heard you, Phizicks. :) Newer Barista Express Touch does too. My Oracle is catching up with its predecessor, the Barista Express 870, now that I've been learning it, and catching my errors. Use the 1 cup basket in the Portafilter, if you are pulling but one shot. (I was using the bigger basket, and all kinds of problems came from that doh!) Also, the helpful Breville tech lady had me unscrew the tamper so that 5 threads showed, and the tamp is so much smoother now. (You have to loosen the little set screw first.) But I still love the Barista Express 870 too. a little easier to manually froth, because the wand ain't so wide. All good. Thanks, Breville, and THANKS GAIL! You and Phil McKnight are my two heroes.

    Does the machine change the dose between using the single basket and double basket ?
    If it does not change the dose, then wouldn't using the double basket make 2 weaker shots ?

    Can you turn the cup warmer off? And how long does it take to heat up ready to brew and steam?

    • @Chriswales
      @Chriswales 3 роки тому +1

      Had an Oracle for 6 months and no you can't turn off the cup warmer. It gets hot from being above the stream boiler, it's warm to the touch but doesn't make cups that warm. Takes a couple of minutes to get the water up to temperature in the morning. But the group head and portafilter are still be cold, meaning your first coffee isn't that warm. Best either using the timer to switch it on before you get up leaving the portfilter in the group head or run some hot water through them.

    I’m trying to decide between this and the Barista touch. My husband and I both have a double shot in the morning but I like mine run a bit shorter than his. My question is does the single shot have a maximum time I can program it for? Or could I use that to create a custom shot for myself?

    Hi,
    Thanks for.your reviews. A couple of questions:
    Does the Oracle "classic" have any advantages over the Oracle Touch?
    Has the Oracle Touch had and upgrades to the systems from the Oracle "classic"?
    Has the Oracle "classic" been upgraded since its introduction?
    Thanks in advance

      I have had both. I hated the Oracle touch because they dumbed it down. For some reason they removed the advanced settings menu and many functions (like adjustable tamp pressure for instance). Also you can save drink preferences but it's really just a gimmick. I prefer the original

    • @gdiab
      @gdiab 7 років тому +7

      Bruce Bower I have had one for over 2 years and it's generally been running very well. Have had a few minor issues with it in years 1-2 and recently, needed to take it in for service as there was a leak in the boiler. However, Breville's customer service (in Australia) is very good and thankfully I have not been charged for any of the repairs. My wife and I love this machine and have used it almost every day since purchased in Nov 2014!

    Got 2 questions- how much time does it take to preheat the cold water to 200F in that machine and if it is possible to use pre-grind coffee in that machine?

    • @lc96wa
      @lc96wa 5 років тому

      We think 3 or 4 minutes until it's hot, and yes, you can use pre-ground coffee, just put in portafilter and proceed (bypass the grinder function on the left part of machine).

    Does this come with non-pressurized baskets? And does it come with a bottomless portafilter?
    Is shot extraction based on water volume through the head or time?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 років тому

      The Oracle comes with 1 basket that is non-pressurized. If you wanted a bottomless you would need to purchase that separately (www.seattlecoffeegear.com/breville-bottomless-portafilter-for-dual-boiler-oracle). The shot extraction is volumetric. Cheers!

    • @bryanjensen355

      How does this manage pressure and result on a single shot? and proximity of the puck to the group head? The regular double boiler model comes with diff baskets as I recall...

    • @tommymandel3326
      @tommymandel3326 6 років тому

      They eventually did come out with a single basket. There's a little confusion over whether that's solely for cleaning, or for single shots, but all I can say is that my single tastes much much less bitter when I have the single basket installed. GAIL, please chime in here if you be willing to add to my confusion. I mean, add info to remove my confusion :)

    How would someone switch to decaf beans? Can you get an extra hopper for decaf, or does the grinder keep beans in the cavity below the hopper?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 років тому +1

      You could get a separate hopper, but would need to grind through the beans in between the burrs. Depends on the sensitivity to caffeine :D

  • @invisiblekid99
    @invisiblekid99 8 років тому +1

    Great video Gail. This is my kind of machine. I love great coffee, but honestly too lazy to everything myself. I know manual machines are the ultimate, this offers a good compromise I think. I'm the only one who drinks coffee in the house to the built in grinder Vs heat from the machine altering is not going to be an issue i think. The auto steamer is also perfect for my needs.
    But since I'll only be make one or two cups of coffee, what is the minimum amount of milk you need to use? Do you have to fill the jug for just one cup?
    Also (in the UK at least) if you buy this machine a nice bloke or lady! will come round to your house and show you exactly how to use the machine. Thats pretty cool for someone who likes coffee, but know idea how to make it themselves.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 років тому

      +invisiblekid99 If you have a smaller milk frothing pitcher, say 6 ounces, you can still steam! You will just want to make sure the milk is deep enough for the wand :D

  • @bryanjensen355
    @bryanjensen355 8 років тому

    Also, for manual steaming is it a multi-hole wand? And how does it perform compared to the Brev920 double boiler?

    • @tommymandel3326
      @tommymandel3326 6 років тому

      There are 4 holes, 90˚ apart on the bottom curve of the wand. For me, that makes the exact insertion depth a bit harder to gage with this wand, exactly for this reason, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in with some helpful info on this.

      The portafilter comes with interchangable single shot and double shot baskets. The machine doses until the basket is full and then tamps and polishes. All the machine's really doing is working out when the basket's full. I really like our machine, it makes great coffee.

      Hi there! Gail mentions the roller bearing at 4:50. When it is engaged to be able to move from spot to spot, the drip tray cannot be put back. So you technically could use the machine with the roller bearing engaged, but the machine would be operating the way it is meant to.

    Quick question! I'm torn between buying this and the barista Express.
    I know you get 4 baskets with the BE but only the one portafilter with the Oracle. My question is, how do you get a double / single shot from the oracle? Is it in the menu? Is the fact you only get one basket an issue or is the BE better in that sense?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  7 років тому +1

      While it doesn't change the dosing, the Oracle lets you program different volumes in the machine to get single / double shots.

    • @SHIRAbeef
      @SHIRAbeef 7 років тому

    Thanks Gail for this show, with this machine can we use a french roasted beans?

      We would recommend using a stand alone grinder that is easy to clean if you are using beans with visible oils.

    Hi Gail and crew. NW native here. Love your channel and have followed it's progression and your coffee expertise for years.
    Need your help as I'm going to be moving to Europe for a couple of years and wanted to buy an Oracle to take with me for excellent home espresso. The catch is that the current there, runs at 220V. Wondering if this machine comes in a 220V version or if there's an internal switch that takes care of this predicament.
    If not, what do you suggest? Thank you and keep up the good work... xo.

      +happycamper22 They do sell the Oracle under the brand name Sage in Europe- you might have luck finding on there? You can not modify the US version unfortunately. Thanks for watching! Good luck in your move!

    I want to buy this machine, however , I’ve heard mixed reviews (great function but terrible reliability..?) and I was wondering if Breville has gotten any / all of the gremlins out in past 2-3years...
    I have a super auto currently SAECO Gran Barista, but the foam quality is terrible... just aweful. I hate, hate, hate it...

      +Jody Guy The Oracle is really in a class of it's own. A hybrid of sorts. The Barista express would be the closest, in that it has a grinder built in, but you would be in control of the other aspects (milk/tamping/dosing/ect) www.seattlecoffeegear.com/breville-barista-express-espresso-machine Cheers!

    At $2,000.00 it's a big investment. Can it be repaired if it breaks? Are there parts available and technicians that know how to repair it?

    +Seattle Coffee Gear the microfoam (wet paint texture) is excellent, which super-automatic would you recommend for the closest results as far as microfoam quality? I own the Krups EA9000 and the frothing is just hot milk with soap -like foam on top, can a super-automatic achieve such a texture like the one seen in your video from the Oracle ? - Thank you for your videos!

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 років тому

      +Harvey Angulo The Oracle really stands out amongst the crowd. You will not find a superautomatic machine that will be able to give you the texture that the Oracle creates. A machine like the Barista Express would be the closest, however, you will need to do all the frothing. :D

    Does the creatista sorta make this machine obsolete for home use.
    Plus where is the girl behind the camera who used to laugh a lot. ???

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  7 років тому

      Extremely different machines. The simplest difference is that the Creatista uses Nespresso pods, while this allows you to use different coffees.
