    Awesome video... i literally just got the thumbs up from the wife to start the restoration of my 98 GST spyder. The car i had when i started dating my wife in high-school. Its been sitting for 17 years. I no longer have the knowledge or time myself (probably why its been sitting for 17 years 😂). I started calling around and posting on DSM tuners yesterday to game plan and hopeful find a DSM guru/shop.... im looking to restore it inside and out. I'm not looking for a drag car, but more for a weekend cruiser for the wife and i, that's got some heat, with the occasional car show/gathering.... any advice?

    • @IT_Performance
      @IT_Performance  4 роки тому +14

      I've been working on car for a long time haha. My advice, when modifying dont rush, buy quality parts, and make sure you stay safe. And if you're gonna tune it, pay a little extra and go through a reputable tuner, there are a lot of people that claim they can do e tunes and have no idea what they are doing. It's just not worth it, not saying that all e tunes are bad. But you have to know who you are dealing with.

      if you wanna modify your car, a nice set of wheels, some suspension, a nice wrap or paintjob is a really good start. then it will be able to handle the horsepower you put into it. so.. yeah.. i'd start with wheels and suspension, a cold air intake if you wanna make it sound a little better, an aftermarket exhaust (good one, not some cheap ass random one). ^^ hope it helps.

Maybe I'm wrong and seeing the car in a video didn't do it justice for how bad of shape the car was in. I would call this finishing a car. Or even, remodeling a car.

    What was the cost of your restoration if you can share that? Obviously, won't include labor. I have a 95 TSi AWD that I'd like to restore from frame to finish.

      I have about 15k in the car. I bought the car with the engine and awd swap for 1500. So it added up a lot haha. It's the little things that really add up haha. I still want a couple more parts probably another 5k lol

    So, how long did this take in total?
    Im currently buying a 2g Eclipse GS, 4G63 N/A, the guy is selling it for way too cheap considering its pretty much rust free (am in germany, thats a rarity here) but it stood still for about 8 years so theres some standing damage, maintainence and obviously stuff like faded paint and whatnot. The engine was replaced at some point and only has about 50k miles on it so probably doesnt need a lot other than new fluids.
    but as i currently still have another (crappy but working) daily, id like to fix and do as much as possible to it beforehand.

      It took about a year to redo the whole body. Thats working on it after work. Probably about 20-30 hrs a week.

      Haha I wish. It could have been. Just it mainly just me doing the work alone in my free time. If you have more time to spend on it it wouldn't take this long. I think that a year is really not too bad though for the amount of work that I've done to this car.

      Yeah. Just some undercoating. Figured it would dampen the sound a bit and also just give it an extra layer of protection from rust, etc

    • @IT_Performance
      @IT_Performance  4 роки тому +1

      I got lucky enough to get most of the parts I needed for the build with the car. Also I used ebay a lot for wiring/engine parts. And I got some little things from the Mitsubishi dealer like driveshaft bolts and some other hardware. Also there was a junk yard by me that was parting out a gsx so I got a couple of pieces from there too. You can always check car-part.com for the parts you need. They basically tell you what junk yard have the parts you need and most of these places ship even if they are farther away.
