Estonia, Poland, Finland and Sweden have possibilities to completely block the Baltic Sea for the Russian fleet.
This was stated by the commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, General Martin Herem.
"We have significantly improved our maritime capabilities. Currently, both sea mines and anti-ship missiles are in the Navy's inventory. Together with Poland, Sweden and Finland, which have just joined NATO, we should be able to solve one of our key problems - a possible blockade in the Baltic Sea," the general said.
According to him, "after that, it becomes completely unlikely that the aggressor will be able to deploy ship and air defences in the Baltic Sea, which in turn allows us to provide air and sea support from allies."
The commander-in-chief urged the allies to adapt to the new conditions and make difficult decisions.
Since Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO, the narrative around Baltic security among alliance members has been almost triumphant. The Baltic Sea has been described as a “NATO lake”and various Baltic countries have celebrated the increase in their security.
However, Russia’s recent activity in the Baltic shows that NATO members need to remain vigilant in the region, and even strengthen their defences.
Increasingly paranoid about NATO’s intentions, Russia is likely to push back against the alliance in the Baltic. In the process it could significantly increase the risk of escalation, as it uses its hybrid playbook to test NATO’s defences - and conduct acts of sabotage where there is plausible deniability.
The political geography of the Baltic area has shifted significantly in the last 20 years. Despite a growing Russian threat profile since 2014, the Sea has become increasingly crowded, as an important shipping route with high volumes of cargo traffic. It is also the location of important energy and telecommunications infrastructure for several countries, including offshore wind farms, tidal and wave energy converters, gas pipelines and undersea communication cables.

How? Nato ship will be targeted if they fire on Russia ship and they know that. NATO commander and U.S are advising Ukraine moves . Other than personal volunteer in Ukraine they are treated as Ukraine troop. NATO is helpless and loseing , Russia fighting all of them in equipment donated and planing. A total embarrassment. And yes Russia will not attack Ukraine. They said
Russia is loosing to Ukraine in the Black Sea and Ukraine doesn't have a proper navy. Russia has no chance to resist nato in the baltic see. They are effectively trapped in port at St Petersburg. They might as well scuttle the Baltic fleet and save some money 😂
NATO isn’t even fighting. If it was, Russia would have lost a long time ago. If any country is embarrassed, it’s Russia. Ukraine wasn’t even a top twenty ranked military at the beginning of the war, and it’s held off Russia, which has a significantly larger population and military. Just watch videos of the Russian military, and every day it takes staggering losses. NATO has provided just a small fraction of what’s in its arsenal to Ukraine, with much of it older technology, and Ukraine has still been holding its own against Russia.
