Marijuana Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share our experience, strength, and hope with each other that we may solve our common problem and help others to recover from marijuana addiction.
This is a clip of the cross-addiction workshop held at the world fellowship convention in 2022. Cross addiction is described as "When we give up the drug of our choice, a void is created. The initial struggle to abstain from marijuana use often leaves us vulnerable. For the first time in years, we no longer have marijuana clouding our feelings; we don’t even have a name for some of these feelings. We may experience happiness, pleasure, satisfaction, enjoyment, fulfillment, and other positive feelings; we may also experience anger, depression, resentment, sorrow, dejection, fear, emptiness, and other negative feelings. To fill these voids or numb the pain, we may start to use, or increase the use of, other substances such as alcohol, cocaine, pills, or other drugs. Since we’ve never done feelings, of any kind, too well, we may use mind or mood-altering chemicals to take the edge off our powerful new feelings, both positive and negative. Although we may not now be addicted to these substances, their use can lower our inhibitions and leave us open to repeating old patterns of thinking and behavior, which can lead back to marijuana use or on to new addictions." I really appreciated this talk on cross addiction. I'm definitely a marijuana addict. There are no "in person" MA meetings here in Tulsa, so I threw myself into AA. I often have little control over how much alcohol I take in when I start drinking. That is how I qualified myself. But, needed live meetings with real people to break this matijuana thing. I'm a year and 3 months sober and I'm at the 10th step with my AA sponsor. I'm much better mentally than I was when came into AA. But, I have way more behaviors that match the stories in MA than AA. I've met a few others in AA like myself. That helps. But, MA is really where I fit best. Thank you for this podcast.
