Quotes by Famous, Canadian Politicians and People or just people born in Canada
“Defeat is not bitter unless you swallow it.” - Joe Clark
"The best defence of peace is not power, but the removal of the causes of war, and international agreements which will put peace on a stronger foundation, than the terror of destruction." ~ Lester B. Pearson
"If we are to preserve civilization, we must first remain civilized." ~ Louis St. Laurent
"A true man does not only stand up for himself, he stands up for those that do not have the ability to." ~ William Lyon Mackenzie King
"I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind." ~ John Diefenbaker
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world." ~ Jack Layton (Leader of the Opposition in Canada in 2011)
"Always have a dream that will outlast your lifetime." ~ Jack Layton (Same guy)
"A successful politician must not only be able to read the mood of the public, he must have the skill to get the public on his side. The public is moved by mood more than logic, by instinct more than reason, and that is something that every politician must make use of or guard against." ~ Jean Chretien
"If your only objective is to be popular, you're going to be popular but you will be known as the Prime Minister who achieved nothing." ~ Brian Mulroney
"In any democracy, there is always a tug-of-war between policies to achieve equality and policies to promote excellence. I am certain that Canada can achieve both equality and excellence." ~ John Turner
"If we do not step forward, then we step back. If we do not protect a right, then we deny it." ~ Paul Martin
"As all human beings are, in my view, creatures of God's design, we must respect all other human beings. That does not mean I have to agree with their choices or agree with their opinions, but indeed I respect them as human beings." ~ Stockwell Day (Leader of the Canadian Opposition 2000-2001)
"The past is to be respected and acknowledged, but not to be worshipped. It is our future in which we will find our greatness." ~ Pierre Trudeau
"There is no greater fraud than a promise not kept." ~ Stephen Harper
"The world is threatened by terrorism and violent extremism like never before. The rule of law is one of our chief defences against terrorism. Our shared values of freedom and democracy are shielded when like-minded nations work together to promote justice." ~ Peter MacKay (Search him up on any software)
"The statistics requested respecting the number of crimes that have been solved by tracing the firearm back to the registered owner are not kept at this time and are therefore not available." ~ Herb Gray (Leader of the Opposition in 1990)
"These are the people we elected and if we are not satisfied we should get new candidates. It is in our hands. It is our country. It is a very simplistic view that politicians are to blame for everything." ~ Robert Stanfield (Leader of the Opposition from 1967 - 1976)
"I just wish people would realize that anything's possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try." ~ Terry Fox (A great Canadian who sacrificed everything to try to run from the east side of Canada to the west)
"I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been." ~ Wayne Gretzky
"Change is never easy, and it often creates discord, but when people come together for the good of humanity and the Earth, we can accomplish great things." ~ David Suzuki
"What you aren't ready for being the first time in space - on an emotional and intellectual level - is how looking down at Earth will profoundly affect you. Over the long term, it has changed the way I think about planet Earth. When you go around the planet and look down, you think about the fact that this is the cradle of humanity, that this is a place where seven billion people, 200 countries, live side by side, that we share this place and there's nowhere else to go." ~ Marc Garneau (First Canadian to ever travel and beyond the earth’s surface level to space)
"Racism is a refuge for the ignorant. It seeks to divide and to destroy. It is the enemy of freedom, and deserves to be met head-on and stamped out." ~ Pierre Berton
"The nation is bound together by its creative artists and not by parallel lines of rusting steel." ~ Pierre Berton (Another Pierre Berton quote, well obviously)
“My focus is to forget the pain of life. Forget the pain, mock the pain, reduce it. And laugh.” - Jim Carrey
"Live without pretending, love without depending, listen without defending, speak without offending." ~ Drake

Good quotes except Pearson’s, it defies a millenniums worth of human history, and the centuries old Latin quote: “Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum” in English: “If You Want Peace, Prepare For War”. Evil is only ever overcome by power of some kind from the brave righteous. Every time in human history a country (or counties) have prepared for peace they ended up in a war. At least if you prepare for war, peace is a possibility, war will be inevitability if you prepare for peace.
