- Looking for some quilting ideas that are fresh and modern? Join Kim and Kristina as they work through a quilt designed by Carolyn Friedlander using a technique Kim likes to call Improv Quilting. Kim used the "Mark" tool in Pro-Stitcher for her improv quilting to fill in her different sections. Doing these techniques gives a "done by hand" feel to her quilt that was quilted on the Amara 20.
Kim covers:
Tips for free-motion loops
Using Pro-Stitcher for improv quilting (starts around 14:30)
Ruler work ideas (starting 27:24)
Switching out your thread on your longarm machine
Free-motion piano keys
How to do "stitch in the ditch" (starting around 30:26)

I was totally thinking your sweater was hand knit! It’s beautiful!
Why thank you!
Beautiful sweater!
Thanks!
Hello from North Carolina
Hello. I am working on a Collage quilt for my daughter's Big 50th. I am outta control with the artsy zillion pieces, ( I am relying on Kim's cow from a previous vid as inspiration. ) I am sewing with an early 90's Viking, But, I am taking some notes on Kim's cool random but controlled patterns. I'm a week or so away to doing the free motion quilting, but bookmarking this video for guidance, Cheers Ladies! Cross fingers I get it finished very very quickly!! E
Wonderful!
I find a ballpoint needle helps me to go in any direction with no thread breakage.
Love your improv quilt! Did you use a pattern for all the different shapes, etc.? Great techniques & different ways to create them.
It was a pattern from Carolyn Friedlander.
Your sweater is beautiful. Great pattern and it fits perfectly. The quilt in back is a beautiful sampler of design fillers and I love the circles. Are they paper pieced? Is the pattern available? Todays quilt looks like so much fun and I enjoyed the explanation and demo using mark. The texture is very cool. Great show!
It was a pattern from Carolyn Friedlander.
The background quilt is one I made with my own pattern I created from EQ8. Sorry, it's not available for sale.
What is the silver thing above the glide foot?
That is the new part on the Glide Foot 3.
