Not sure if anyone has already said but V wrote this song when he was going through a lot and when he wondered if he should even continue pursuing being an idol. He even gets emotional while performing this song.
The first line breaks my heart. “Where’s my angel?” V had said he has always felt the presence of a guardian angel looking over him. But when he was going through this period of depression the song is about, for the first time he couldn’t feel that presence anymore. He felt like even his guardian angel had left him.
Basically the "grey rhinoceros" thing is like a foreseeable perpetual impending doom. As in you see and know it’s coming, but there’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop it from happening.
omg I love the way u explained that movie esque b&w on the street scene, that's exactly the mood this song puts me in too, the sense of helplessness/loneliness in that dim setting that depression tends to put one in and it just gets harder with the contrast of color in other ppl🥹
Blue and Grey is a song under their BE album which was released at the height of the pandemic. BTS songs are usually a personification of an emotion like when they use word "Girl" it could mean hope or trouble or pain, depending on the theme or plot of their song or album. Here, Blue and Grey is personification of "loneliness and emptiness" only that the personified subject is the first person "I". This is another song that talks about mental health or depression. Note that South Korea is one of top 10 countries in the world with highest suicide rate in the world and BTS is the first KPop groups which used its art and platform to tackle the subject of mental health of which they were more oftenly rediculed in the beginning of their carreer. Back then, the topic mental health seemed to be a strange topic, if not taboo, in South Koren homes. Perhaps, BTS came up with this song to remind all their fans and listeners, who were experiencing anxiety or depression at that time,, that they are not alone and that BTS knows what they were going through by singing it so eloquently vivid. In one meeting of CEO Bang PD with RM, the former experience his worries about them (BTS) especially RM and Suga, because their lyrics were starting to attract peole of importance (power) and the backlash might be worse than what they can bear. But, RM insisted that their songs they write is where his members (BTS) is at their best when singing and petforming it, not to mention that it is the only common thing about them (BTS). Such a conviction of then merely 24 yr old RM. At the end of the day, Bang PD respected their decision.. After that conversation, their legendary Spring Day was born and the rest is history. In RM's speech at the UN in 2018, the title is "Speak Yourself". Little did BTS and BigHit knew that it is BTS lyrics and music that earned them awards and their biggest award is the respect and pride of ARMY to BTS. And this is why in their later EPs Love Yourself albums, BTS started talking and promoting self-love instead of love itself. Blue and Gray is a piece of art. And, you are intelligent girl. Love your insight. "You are nice, keep going!." - Jimin
Just here to say that this is the first video of yours that I'm coming across and I really really appreciate the care you're putting into experiencing BTS. This song makes me cry every time I listen to it - I teared up when you were looking at the screen with teary eyes and speaking about your interpretations of the lyrics. Welcome to the BTS journey, I hope you enjoy it and feel every emotion to ever exist. I hope you stay with us (BTS & ARMY) for a long, long time 💜
Thank you so much for your comment, and for the warm welcome☺️💜 I have been so amazed by what I’ve seen so far from BTS, and I won’t be going anywhere anytime soon
I've said it before. BTS studio recordings are really good but I think their LIVE performances are a million times better. Their live vocals and live dancing, and the energy are unmatched. Truly unmatched. Please react to more live performances. Outro Tear, LIVE performance for Film Out (i know you reacted to the MV but the live vocals for this...), Coldplay Cover for Fix You, are among the best. I like that you reacted to their live performance here.
I really love how you take in the lyrics😭. I’ve been loving your reactions and can’t wait for more!! Here are 2 recommended songs for you “Blood, sweat and tears” which really jump started their career in my opinion, the music video is so beautiful. It is part of the BU which is their storyline that runs through a lot of their MVs! If u wanna start it, it starts with the song “I need you” the original version cuz there are 2 MVs. If you want more chronologically there are playlists with everything you need to watch or we can comment them lol. Even though a lot of their content is part of the BU, u can still understand the content and separate songs and such from it. The second song is “Louder than Bombs” which is a bside from the map of the soul 7 album. It’s very haunting and beautiful. It one of my favorites from them!! I could give more recommendations but I didn’t want to overwhelm you! If you want more, let us know!!! Anyway have a good day and I hope you’re enjoying bts so far🫶 Oh and I forgot to add, this song comes from the BE album which talks about the pandemic mostly and their feelings during it. So you can keep that in mind if you reread the lyrics and such. They r really amazing and covey themselves/their emotions so well through music😭
Thank you for the kind words, and the recommendations!!💜I will add them to my list, but it is getting quite long so you may not see them for a while. OH, this song having been from the pandemic makes a lot of sense! Thanks so much again!
The line about the rhinoceros reminds me of clinical depression. If it's your constant companion, you can feel it coming but you can't stop it because it has no external cause. It just runs you over like a rhino. It's one of the most helpless feelings in the world.
i actually love the way you avoided copyright hahah i always cry with this song but the little behind clips made me happy so it was nice hahaha I'm loving your reactions💜
after the suchwita episode with taehyung opening up about his depression and mental state back in 2018 this song breaks my heart even more knowing it's how taehyung felt back then🥺🥺🥺 note: we obviously knew a bit of his feelings since the release but the fact that things were so intense and gloomy breaks me
To add to what people are saying, V wrote this song, but it was during the pandemic, and these are the feelings and thoughts he was having. He was having Insomnia during the pandemic, because of the the thoughts and feelings, he's describing the depression he was having, and wouldn't fall asleep until dawn. He was going to release Blue and Grey on his mixtape as an English song, but when he showed it to BTS, they loved it so much, that they wanted to include it on their BE album, so they released it in Korean, with added lyrics from the rap line. You HAVE to watch the performance of this song at the PTD Los Angeles Concert at SOFI Stadium. The visual representation of it is so amazing, and very interpretive. Then they go right into an artistic intro to Black Swan. That performance will always live in my mind rent free. I went with my husband and niece to this concert. It was my first BTS and first Stadium concert. BTS Blue and Grey - Live at PTD Los Angeles NO SUBS - ua-cam.com/video/S36P381HFYI/v-deo.htmlsi=ka6ksBoIMtd8u_Ih
Thank you for sharing. V’s inner world he expressed with this song is heartbreaking and beautiful. I will for sure check out the PTD performance! Thanks for the link💜
Hi Jess, you are really adorable. Anyways, At the end of you talking about BTS i can tell this song touched you. This in particular song Blue & Grey ALWAYS makes me cry because for one V wrote it when he was depressed. Top of the world and an artist is depressed. And the meaning and metaphors that they put into their lyrics is on another level with music today. One of, if not THE BEST BTS "slow ballad'' song IMO.
@@JessReactsToStuff it does make it more depressing! V already said the song got him thru his struggles. It was a interview that Suga was interviewing V. I have to look at my history to find it and send it to you. Btw stupid question, you look mixed or might be the hair color lol. But what is your ethnicity?
Don't you think this is a song about depression, a person who has depression and gets better, but they know it can come again at any time. And when you are in the depression you feel alone no matter how many people are around you.
I recomend to react to 3 Suga masterpieces, The last, Nevermind and First love. I am OT7 for life and all members are equially precious to me, but there is something in the way Suga raps and writes his lyrics that touches my heart and soul - and I never liked rap before - BTS made me a fan of rap (BTS rapline songs are mindblowing). Please take also an advise from me - include a live performance to your reactions. Don't worry that it will be to long, ARMYs love long reactions and you're doing very well so far. And dance practices are also a must. Live performances add so much to the song, as they sound better than the studio version, you can feel their passion and the coreographies are enhancing the meaning of the song. Wish you all the best!
The line Suga said he was born from loneliness is that his father & mother had sex because they were lonely. J-Hope standing in front of the rhino but not afraid is that his life changed from a happy person, but he is now not caring about his life anymore.
I'm lovin your reactions and continue to react to BTS content. I'm just giving you a heads up as I already see people commenting for you to react to Spring Day. While the MV may speak of one thing, BTS has NEVER come out and said what the song is truly about. I wish some ARMY got this through their heads. I don't want to speak of it too much here but it is NOT about the incident as some will say. BTS just said that it's about longing for someone that they miss and is re-interpreted in the MV. The event happened 3 years before the song came out. We all know BTS is thoughtful for these tragedies and will come out with music IMMEDIATELY. Similar to how they came out with PTD and Dynamite during the pandemic. Just keep that in mind when reacting to Spring Day. The song can be interpreted in SO many different ways.
BTS did said Spring Day was about missing and feeling like winter hoping for a spring day, RM wrote this song for a friend but the MV it is about the Sewol Tragedy, it's not just a theory, BTS couldn't confirm anything because that cause was a government issue and there was a blacklist for people who claimed the bad management of the government. Some years later BTS where asked about this song in a press conference and RM said something about this song becoming more meaningful after being seemed as a tribute to the victims of the tragedy, he and the members second that affirmation, this song it's a meaningful song for so many reasons and one of that IT IS the Sewol Tragedy🌷 You can watch Italian ARMY video where it's highlighted Nam's words and many other things.
