Eric being rescued is amazing to watch and see her grow. And the message of letting people help you, you have no idea how that is going to be important in future arcs
This was a really awesome video because I didn’t really understand how eri was a hero and you helped me get into her mindset keep doin what your doin cousin!
Really good video. I think it's really easy for people to disregard Eri because she's a child. Children in media has always been a mixed bag. They are really easy to like because children are inherently innocent but they are really easy to dislike because some people just find children annoying. It's also difficult to integrate children into the narrative without it feeling forced and while giving them something unique to them. You did a good job at explaining why Eri is worthy of praise. You brought up some things that I never really considered. The 3 points of heroism was a really interesting point, as well as the grabbing the cape meaning that she wanted to be saved. I've always liked Eri but this gave me a new appreciation for her. I just hope she comes back and continues down this path. The editing was also really good. I see you didn't do it yourself but it really helped the vid flow. You picked a good editor. All in all, a very solid video that really makes me want to go back and read that arc again
Thank you so much for the thorough reply! It’s what I make these videos for. I’ve also made a video on Overhaul himself so if you want more MHA stuff that’s always there. I’m glad I could bring some new insight to your feelings on the character and yeah my editor Kor is awesome at what he does. He has his own channel too where he talks about more obscure anime and also has a great series where he tries out every anime from different years. So definitely check him out. Thanks for watching dude!
Excellent video. Eri is one of those characters I respected a lot but ultimately I've come to appreciate a lot more in hindsight. I can't say it will change how I feel about the Overhaul arc and how I argue it is the weakest MHA arc overall in terms of plotting. But Eri's story definitely is a highlight. For me, Eri's value to MHA really shined during Cultural Festival. As you highlight the trauma of Overhaul isn't something one can get rid of overnight. Especially given how Eri, prior to Deku and Lemillion, never knew it what it was like to be normal. She was experimented on, torn apart, reassembled. A truly gruesome life. Yet it was when she experienced the festival activities, Jirou's music(which that is beautiful in itself because Jirou lamented how her talent wasn't suited for hero work yet ironically it helped save Eri) and Midoriya's kindness that she found herself free. It's good stuff. I argue one of the reasons why the Deku vs Overhaul fight is beloved(I enjoyed that fight to) is that it represents one of the best aspects of Midoriya's character which is making use of what he has even if it isn't the best. We saw this in Sports Festival, USJ and many times. Midoriya didn't fear Eri because he recognized Eri as a person and not just a tool. Poetic, considering he did the same with Shoto with the famous "It's your power." line. Combined with Midoriya and Mirio's kindness/ resolve, it allowed Eri to not feel guilty over her powers and not be controlled by Overhaul.
This video was SO GOOD!! ❤️❤️❤️ And watching this video just while seeing what's happening now in the manga, that is, the Villain hunt arc, with chapter 324 and all... It hits so much harder... The core message of this whole manga/anime being that it's okay to let poeple help you, that you are just a person, and you're not supposed to fight all of your demons on your own... Is so impactful and refreshing ❤️
Yo, splendid video Sir ! I believe this video on Eri, as another layer of why I love her. In these chaotic times, this vid was much needed, in the morning no less. Have a bless one, tell Kor, we appreciate him; just as much as you. 🙌🏾
This is a really great analysis of her character. I got here because of Oceaniz's retweet. You now have a new subscriber! Can't wait to watch you keep growing!
Thank you so so much! I really appreciate you sticking around! It won’t always be MHA related but I hope you’ll enjoy what I create as well as how it’s all put together by my awesome editor Kor.
I mean sure it's nice that they saved her from a life of being killed repeatedly, made her feel like she wasn't a curse, and helped her put her past behind her by teaching her to smile. But if it's not a 3 episode fight dragged out to 10 episodes because of fluff and flashbacks then I'm not interested
Thanks dustan! I hope I could help shine some light on this underrated character. Did anything mentioned help you like Eri more or was it things you mostly already knew and changed nothing?
KirbySonicTeam things I knew but never thought out to the point to make a video. What you said made me think of something about the future of the series. We can talk about the next time we in a stream together
IanWaffles I have a theory. (Spoilers/Theory)- Many of you might know that Horokoshi often drew Deku with a Yellow Cape/Scarf prior to Deku receiving one within the series, much of the art from Horokoshi often Contained foreshadowing but recently I noticed Bakugo was also drawn with a cape, a red one my theory is after Bakugos resurrection he will inherit edgeshots cape/scarf because edgeshot gave his life for Bakugo’s resurrection so Bakugo might inherit Edgeshots scarf to honor the fallen hero Edgeshot
One thing I feel people miss about Eri is that Deku didn't save Eri he defeated overhaul The is a difference, lamillion is the one who saved Eri or rather laid the groundwork for Eri to leave overhaul that's why she grabbed his cape and her powers activated......
hey! Did I give you permission to make me emotional? Not gonna lie I did think of eri a lot like just a cheap trick for deku to go 100% or other manga spoilery things but this video definatly made me reconcider things a whole lot.
Glad you liked it! To be fair that is her plot purpose, I just think she was written well enough to fulfill that role in a way that is satisfying and compelling.
I’ve always loved Eri because of her adorable design & personality, & her tragic backstory. But this video has given me a deeper appreciation for her. “Even Victims can be Heroes too”. 🤍
That was beautiful. The moment Eri finally smiled for real melted my heart.

I swear, one of these days, Eri will be a great hero when she grows up!
This was a really awesome video because I didn’t really understand how eri was a hero and you helped me get into her mindset keep doin what your doin cousin!
What an amazing and underrated video. The best analysis I've seen on Eri.
Thank you very much! I hope it added a bit more appreciation for her.

Great work, I love your analysis!! :) Eri's journey was just so emotionally satisfying, and I think you perfectly captured why.
