Thar: The Incredible Living Desert | Deserts And Life
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 жов 2021
- Deserts are on the move with the shifting winds and changing climate.
They are the most haunting of all the Earth’s landscapes. Sometimes we think of them as vast empty spaces that dwarf and test our human spirit. But that view is wrong in so many ways.
Deserts are full of colour and contrast. There are mountains and lagoons among the dunes and plains. They often teem with life and are rich in resources. Their peoples have remarkable qualities of ingenuity and endurance, wisdom and humour - their festivals and gatherings full of colour and energy.

I've been to Jaisalmer first in 1982; a handful of small hotels, very basic; met three travelers 5 days ... I enjoyed every single hour. it is still my dream town.
I haven't been there but surely, it has changed a lot since 1982 when I was just 5. There weren't too many people and vehicles back then, no bikes. I'm from Chandigarh, India but I hate the noise, wherever it be. I'll visit Rajasthan this year for sure. Have only been to one place in Jaipur for a couple of hours.
India has desert, snowy mountains, green mountains, beaches, rivers, it's own set of islands, an ocean in it's name, people from every religion Hindu, Sikh, Christianity, Islam, Jain, Jew, Zorastrian, Buddhist & also 1/6th population of earth.
There is a reason why India is called a subcontinent.
Man! India is full of contrast.

Thank you for your love towards my country..
Thank you! 🙂
I have been to India about 30 times but must admit that all of these trips except for one were on business. In 2017, my wife and I travelled through the Thar Desert. We travelled by car for about 2,800 Klms for almost a month, starting out in Delhi after spending a few days in Varanasi. We stayed in both of the Most Exotic Marigold Hotels and many other great places in Rajasthan. Needless to say, we both love India and it’s people. We were planning to go back again in 2020 but Covid laid waste to these plans. We have been fortunate to be able to have done this. If you want to have the holiday of a lifetime, in the future, please visit Incredible India. COVID permitting of course. The country is Tourism savvy with plenty to offer and of course things have changed a great deal since I first travelled there in 1990.
I am so happy for you. My ancestors came from India. Hopefully one day, I will visit.
@@ramishrambarran3998 Thanks Ramish, you must be very proud. If the opportunity presents itself for you, you should go. I have made many precious friends there and some have come to my home to visit as well. It is truly a great place. Such a wonderful culture with a history that many people could not imagine. Although I have travelled to many countries, the Sub-Continent has always had a very special place in my heart. It is truly incredible.

The most impressive thing to me about the Thar Desert is the stars at night; magnitudes brighter, closer and more abundant.
Oh yes. Though for me, the case is a bit different. Never been there but certainly, the brightest sky I saw was on a lonely country rode in US. It was such a mesmerizing sight to behold. Parked my car off the road and just sat there, gazing at the night sky. Won't forget that ever. I'm in NW India these days. I'd certainly go to Thar soon. Thank you so much!
@@ranjittyagi2846 Greetings,
While working on the Pakistan side of the Thar Desert back in the 70's, I camped out several nights with what I assumed were uneducated guys. In the star filled darkness they told stories and pointed out stars and constellations that amazed me and I knew I was the uneducated and disoriented one for not knowing anything about the Cosmos
@@joeblack7660 what an experience that must be! Sorry for being 10 months late, I had issues with my earlier account, so I created a new one. Cheers.
India is a land of diversity, from animals, climate, language, ethnicity, culture, geography, climate, plants, belief systems, philosophy, and many more. Where there is diversity, there is creativity, and beauty.
I am from Jaisalmer. After watching this documentary I noticed that it is about 10 years old. I think that you should have mentioned the dates on which it was shot and the date of first publication. Because now the situations have totally changed. Without the dates it becomes kind of misleading.

Everything is interesting and marvelous....but please give a thought to the camel equally interesting and marvelous...slaving away to help humans who now with modern technology think it's normal to send them for slaughter after exploiting them to the hilt !
@@dipalachauhan6956 You telling me! I always feel so bad when ever I see camels because we couldn't make their life better. I am from Ethiopia and I had worked for one year in one of the arid area of our country just like the one on the video to support the pastoralists with Irrigation program. I had learned a great deal of knowledge about such communities and the camels, sheep's and goats they possess. I am not really exaggerating if I say the emotional tie between the camels and their owners is like a mother and her first birth child. The camels are all the resources those communities have for transportation, for milk, for tillage and every thing. I have not seen it my self but those pastoralists i worked with told me told me slaughtering camel is like a rare life time event and not happening often at all. So when ever the camel is brought to be slaughtered it usually cries like a human. This is what they told me and I am sure they are truthful looking on the intimacy.
But Now the Humans are farming more more trash cities burning sky worldwide concrete jungles more trash daily they are not farming trees 07 be glad wish u knew meh now 07 jesus meh with u all 07
@@dipalachauhan6956 let me assure you, the village people, once they depend on the cattle for their life, won't ever send it to the slaughterhouse. If they can't afford it, they will sell the camel to the similar community, not to a slaughterhouse. Even if the later is more profitable, for them its their family member. They have names for their animal, they know each of them, they know every one's personality. I've seen the village life closely enough and know at least that. There might be exceptions though. Also people keep some animals like goats etc just for the sake of selling them later for slaughter, that's different story. But the villagers that once thrive on an animal won't leave it to die. Also they don't exploit it to the hilt, most keep them as their family members. Not like the modern folks, they don't milk them to the last drop, don't see them only as a source of money. They truly respect the animal and see them as a life not just a thing. Their life is troublesome, but it is truly simple and respectful.
@@dipalachauhan6956 Thank you for caring about animals, about the camel, those sentient beings who are at our mercy for kindness and care and who cannot speak for themselves or protect themselves from abuse that may come to them from humans. People, love and respect animal lives. They give themselves to us and really need so little. Step in andspeak up when you observe animals being mistreated. Let's create a beautiful world with respect for all especaily those who cannot defend themselves, children animals the elderly. Thankyou.

This hurts a lot. That charm, the old charm is gone. And why wouldn't it? 1974: population was less than 580 million, now we are nearly 1.5 billion. And some rural areas have become cities, teeming with people and vehicles. Now, that's not nice to see. I'm from NW India, town and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
