This is a brilliant tutorial! The content is very good, and the presentation is excellent. No need to speed it up to 1.25 or faster (like many of us do for tutorials). Lexa talks fast, and uses no fluff or filler words like um or ahh. Well edited and boiled down to just a constant stream of good content. I can't tell if she is following a script or is just a naturally gifted speaker. Well done and recommended.
Just downloaded YNAB yesterday and only looked at it on my phone as an app and not the computer and was so confused! Thank you for all this information!!! I can’t wait to set up everything 😭
Restarted today. I've been spending like crazy the last years.... can you speak a little slower? Not native speaker and struggle to catch up with you 😉
I am returning to YNAB after a few years off. Rather than try to figure out my past budget, I decided to start from the ground up by setting up a brand new budget. This video is a huge help. I'll be watching Part 2 once I am done with my initial setup. Thanks for making this!
I am not paying for YNAb, but this has been SUPER helpful for hearing about budgeting still. Just your thoughts on categories and the logic behind them all even helps me organize my primitive excel sheet :)
Me and my girlfriend are getting started with YNAB in the new year as we combine finances, this video was super useful! Thank you so much. New subscriber.
Thanks Lexa for this video tutorial !! 👍🏻 It is very useful for new joiners to YNAB, more useful than the Tutorials by YNAB itself. Keep up the awesome work to help people like us get used to YNAB and be able to manage our finances well. Your classification of categories makes a lot of sense and something which I plan to do as well. Appreciate your efforts and kindness to share such valuable information with other YNAB users !! 👍🏻😊
Thank you so much for making this! Ive watched different tutorials by other creators and found yours so well-paced and accessible, I'll definitely be watching part-two. Im a writer so I know how much work goes into these. Thank you!
This is such a well done YNAB video. I felt kind of overwhelmed at first but I followed along with your video and absolutely love the result. Thank you so much! I really liked the way you set up the categories. It makes so much sense.
This was excellent. Heard about YNAB due to Ramit Sethi but this tutorial gave me the confidence to jump in. Signed up via the website so I do not have to enter CC details during the free 34-day trial
Excellent tutorial! I hope you keep making videos. Would love to see updates for 2024 (esp when creating Targets). Also would love to see how someone self-employed would use YNAB. Do you use ATB category for business expenses? Would love to see how you integrate personal and business using ynab.
Thank you so much for explaining YNAB in a clear, concise and fun way! I have been attempting to get into YNAB for a lonnnng time and I'm jumping in because of you!!! Big Hugs!!
I recommend setting aside 10 - 20 cents per mile for unexpected car care repairs or more if you want to keep up with the depreciation of your car in addition to any repairs. And stay away from after-market extended warranties. Trust me on that one.
Thank you so much! I've used YNAB (poorly) for a year and never quite understood all this. I also hate watching videos and following directions, but you kept my attention. Will watch more!
Thanks for this! I recently re-started my YNAB budget after... ignoring it for all of the pandemic... Whoops. :) This was a great resource to help me understand each target type and how best to utilize them. Moving on to the credit card video now... The credit card section was always so confusing to me!
I abandoned all the YNAB shell budget categories too. I already had a spreadsheet, so I needed them to be the same Housing, Transportation, Pets, Shopping, Entertainment, Debt. I need to be able to see those percentages.
Lexa, what YNAB app are you using on your Mac? Your idea to input all this information on the computer is such a time saver! THANKS for putting together such a helpful, organized presentation🤟
Hi Lexa. Not sure if you mentioned this, but what do you consider Fun Money? this is where I have trouble, because I also have an Eating Out category... so fun money is outside of that but can be so many things
I'm confused with setup bc on the left I do not have an option to start a new budget, it doesnt say reports, I've linked accounts but they are also not showing up on the left
I'm hoping to restart my "Budget for Me" series soon! So hopefully I'll have some examples of that. I also think Part 2 will answer more of your questions around what that looks like! That should be up tomorrow or by the end of the week!
@@TheAvocadoToastBudget I would love to be apart of your Budget With Me series. I just came across your video and YNAB. I don’t have a budget in place at all but how you explain this software and how you use it makes me want to get serious about budgeting. I hope your series comes back soon and I can be featured 😊 !!
Never mind im watching pt 2 whicj woll probably answer my question. This is very helpful. I use ED but very very simply. I love that I don't have to do my own calculations as I try to do every month. I use my credit cards for perks and pay off every month. I fell al tad behind with paying off card but I was doing alot of spending around the holidays and after ore than normal. I guess retail therapy been going through alot. But I have been ready to get back on track which I am. So I signed up for this yesterday and today watching your video and put together my video. Now I'm trying to figure out how to pay off card and where to start my target dates. 🤔 I have them entered as when they will be paid but still need to catch up on my credit card. How can I do this without overbugeting? I'm only maybe a month behind if there but I put everything on the cards for the perks. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.
I haven't watched part 2 yet, but my husband and I put all our bills on our credit cards and pay those off in a lump sum every month. Will this type of method still work within YNAB?
Goodness! Slow down!!!!! Why do all YNAB BEGINNER TUTORIALS always have people who talk so fast and go way too fast for a beginner to keep up? I really wish I could recommend this video to other beginners but it’s just too frustrating for me.
Just starting a trial of YNAB and your video has been the most helpful out of all of them. I have a 3 family property I want to include with my budget sort-of separately and I hope your future videos will help explain how to do that along with my personal budget. Anyway, Thanks and I will follow from now on.

I just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH. This should be an official training video!
Just downloaded YNAB yesterday and only looked at it on my phone as an app and not the computer and was so confused! Thank you for all this information!!! I can’t wait to set up everything 😭
This was super helpful! I’m a brand new YNABer (Mint refugee) so this was really useful, thank you!
Same!

Hello, under the wheel icon for settings you can slow down her video, or speed it up. It’s very helpful! Good luck with your new start.
You can slow down the video and turn on automated subtitles
You can slow down the videospeed
@@rhondasolomon7817at 0.75 of the speed is awesome btw 😊

SO helpful! I don't think I've ever sat through 30+ minute UA-cam video before... on my way to part 2!
This is the best YNAB set up video I’ve watched so far. Good job.

WOW! Thank you so much!! I have ADHD as well and I"m like OMG yNAB makes so much better sense now. Thanks for this!

Thanks for your awesome video. I am new to YNAB and was struggling to get going.
really really good! the only thing is I can't find the savings plan builder. did that get changed in 2024 and is it called something else?
This is a great video! I’m considering doing YNAB and wanted to see how it works I’ll definitely watch the second one.

Great video. I'd love to see a more indepth vid about loans in YNAB

WOW this was so useful and overall so insightful. thank you!!!!
This was amazing! Thank you for making this easy, and I feel less stressed out. I'm hoping I'll stick with this!
This was so helpful! I’m finally understanding how to set up this app. Thank you!!
Oh yeah, thanks a bunch for this! The YNAB starter video is not at all for beginners. It's just a more detailed marketing video 😂
Super helpful video! Thank you for breaking everything down so well.
Where is that bookshelf from?!?! I love it!!!
Is the type of target feature now not offered with YNAB? I have the app now and it does not allow me to categorize. Is this only for the paid version?
How do you deal with bi-weekly mortgage payments?
Massively helpful tutorial. Thank you!
I have several bills that come through every other month, waste management, water, electricity, etc. How would you categorize?
I got a free year for being a student, and I’m finally coming back to it like 5 months later to try again because it confused tf out of me
This was super helpful thank you
AWESOME video!!! ❤
I just side up and my set up looks different. Its set your first Target? Step 1 or 3 Am I doing this correct?
Thank you this was great. I did have to slow you down .75 though!
Do you do one on one coaching ?
So helpful!! Thank you :)))
I’m using the app and I’m confused how to set up monthly target for long term savings
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you! I ❤ u!

Very helpful video for the beginner. I am considering purchasing the YNAB app. Is it a one time payment for the app or a yearly renewal?
What if your water or power is always due on certain days of the month, like it's never consistent? Does that matter?
I'm confused with setup bc on the left I do not have an option to start a new budget, it doesnt say reports, I've linked accounts but they are also not showing up on the left
Hi Lexa. Can you do a budget where you get pay on the 21st of the month and it covers bill for the following month? I’m struggling on how to do this.
I'm hoping to restart my "Budget for Me" series soon! So hopefully I'll have some examples of that. I also think Part 2 will answer more of your questions around what that looks like! That should be up tomorrow or by the end of the week!

Yes, many, many people do this. Go look at Nick True's YNAB credit card video
Goodness...sounds like you're wired up on Red Bull lol!
Thank you!
I guess I need to add YNAB to my fixed expenses :( I am so bad at money
This was very helpful! Thank you!
My daughter’s name is Lexa 💕
Not the best tutorial for people like me with below average financial literacy.
Never mind, I just realized you’re on the web version, duh
They won’t forgive student loan debt. Better get those paid.
Goodness! Slow down!!!!! Why do all YNAB BEGINNER TUTORIALS always have people who talk so fast and go way too fast for a beginner to keep up? I really wish I could recommend this video to other beginners but it’s just too frustrating for me.
Ok but what exactly do you buy for 50 bucks on your plants?!? Lol or do you buy $50 worth of plants a month!?! 😮
I'm sure the info is great, but you go way too fast. Guessing it's to keep the length of the tutorial as short as possible.
Under the settings icon on the top right corner, you can change the playback speed to .75 or .50 to slow down the video.
Who has a freaking computer and all of these videos are on a computer
wow.......i cant listen that fast!!!
you talk too fast for beginners to comprehend the content
man you talk really fast
I’m so confused, I’m gonna puke.
You probably have good content. Had to quit. Are you in a hurry that you talk too fast. Cant continue listening. Sorry
