-------------------------
Today, Anna dives into why Hublot gets so much hate, and why they may not actually be as bad as everyone says.
Hublot is frequently written off as a superficial brand of poor quality, the kind of watch solely purchased by the uninformed consumers of the world, but that isn't inherently true. MDM Geneve (now defunct) released the Hublot watch in 1980, and it was a downright classically proportioned watch at the time. Of course, in 1993 when AP released the Royal Oak Offshore, things changed. Now, sporty really meant sport, and Hublot had to catch up. By 2005, with the help of Jean-Claude Biver, Hublot entered the modern age with the Big Bang. There was plenty of complaining that Hublot ripped off the Offshore, and while yes, the similarities are numerous and obvious, Biver defends this by noting that both watches took inspiration from a ship's porthole, so by simply referring to the same source material, of course they would look similar. He's not wrong.
The second major criticism is that the watches are of poor quality. This stems, in large part, from the original Big Bang, which sought to compete with the likes of AP and Patek in style but without the manufacture heritage and construction that those brands are notorious for. A modular chronograph movement is by no means bad, but it directly conflicted with the luxury ideology at the time, and the image just kind of, well, stuck with the brand years after. Despite this, their quality has certainly increased dramatically, from innovative case materials to in-house movements of their own.
Lastly, there is this common criticism that "I just don't like Hublot." Their image, frankly, does leave something to be desired, having become pretty quickly associated with the things that made the Offshore an ugly mistake of a watch, but this is not their entire brand anymore, and that's the thing to keep in mind.

“Is Hublot really bad?”
*Nico has entered the chat*
Nico is a buffoon. His taste in watches is horrid or mediocre at best. His knowledge is laughable. And the way he carries himself reminds of a garbage collector in a 3rd world country.
Who else is worse than a trash can? Nico.
"There is indeed something worse than a trashcan" - Pride and Pinion on Hublot. 100% true.
Oh how the ill informed follow cults like sheep. it's quite cute. 😂
My first luxury watch was a Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Titanium 42mm, my Grandfather give me it as he bought it but never wore it. Him giving me it sparked my interest in watches, and now I have a problem.
would you buy one now?
@@JLchevz Recently been saving for a couple of my grail watches, but in the not so near future another Hublot yes, probably a non chrono classic fusion.
Whichever watch you bought next was you first luxury watch ;)

@@riteshkalidindi10 I have never sold a watch, and I wouldn't start with one so meaningful to me.

Why would anyone admit to owning one?
As someone who works in the industry, the average consumer who makes up the vast majority of our clients don’t care about movements and smaller watches that much. People buy luxury which stands out and makes a statement. They love unique designs and I can se why Hublot is so beloved.
That applies to other people who look at your watch too. They look at the design not the movement, I prefer to talk to some ladies who like shiny accessories than old dudes about freaking movements all night
The luxury watch market is like the fine art market.
Hublot is not a luxury watch. It's a very expensive fashion watch. The day that a Hublot doesn't lose half its value the moment you've paid for it you can start referring to it as a luxury watch.
@@d444 i'd prefer to talk with some old man that recognize the movement under the dials, since he might be into luxury watches and therefore might be someone that would invest their money into your projects, rather than chit chat with a random golddigger
I love the Hublot Big Bang. It is stunning and beautiful. And I love seeing the movements in both the front and back.
Rolex may be fine quality but boring. I think of a rolex like a Lacoste Tshirt. Good but Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz puts me to sleep. And even Breitling which has a hair more pizazz is still mundane compared to a Hublot. The larger shaped Hublots are a bit too large for my tastes but two nights ago I did a lap through a super high end watch store and was bedazzled by the Hublot Big Bang. I don't like the name but the watch is the coolest I have ever seen in my life.
I struck up a conversation about Hublot with the salseperson and before I knew it I had a Hublot Big Bang strapped on my wrist. I am not much of a watch person and up until now my favorite watch is a Skagin super thin. I love it at any price though it is pretty affordable. I know it is tabu in the high end watch community but I love the rubber wrist band over leather.
@@palaxdrain9115 fair enough...but a Rolly is probably gold digger standards, compared to a Hublot youd probably get more attention of an avid watch collector who will give you advice that its not the best watch to invest, and they will probably not know the design since they stay away from it, that may ask you for the brand of some sort, it really depends how you will downplay it to your advantage, get there number, a good way to ask to be mentored and so on and on. Im actually thinking of getting an Hublot in house.mivement or a GP just because in my country there in no AP authoruze dealer, and a couple of Rolex is enough for me
I find it hilarious that Anna is defending the Hublot Big Bang while wearing it's stylistic opposite in a Polerouter. :D
Maybe that is what signifies a true watch enthusiast.
Pride an Union brought me here 😂
I can't help it - the more people hate Hublot, the more I feel like having one. Well, unless I had to use my own money for it.
I hate things i cant afford
Pride and Pinion : So you have chosen Death
People hate on Hublot like they hate on Richard Mille, they are both vastly overpriced brands that have attracted a market largely concerned with nothing other than conveying that they have the wealth to pay huge sums for a luxury item. Rolex, Patek and AP are also overpriced and also attract these sorts of buyers but they have earned a reputation of incomparable heritage and craftsmanship which gives them kudos with the true self titled horologists.
Personally I have no issue with someone who enjoys a Hublot or RM, just as I equally appreciate the admiration someone might have for their $20 Casio. After all, it’s the enjoyment of the timepiece and the personal meaning behind its ownership that gives this hobby its magic, not whether someone owns an “acceptably cool” brand that needs the approval from the died in the wool watch enthusiasts
Agreed, but you cant just criticize it for not having a strong history and heritage. Not their fault if its a young contemporary brand
But RM at least has really good movements, they know what they are doing. Hublot is just straight up overpriced. The cost of luxury watches such as APs, Pateks etc comes not only from them being a luxury item but also because the work required to produce one is very expensive, as there are few people who know how to manufacture them and it takes a lot of time until they are finished. Hublot doesn't have that, so they are even more overpriced
@@bobafett4457 yes they are overpriced (most luxury watches are if we are being honest) but I guess Hublot are using (very successfully) the approach that clothing brands like Gucci use where their value is based on the brand that’s written on the product as opposed to the product itself. They know that the vast majority of Rolex customers have theirs because of the brand and not so much the quality of the watch so they’ve ran with that and are killing it, kudos to them I say. We have to realise that people like ourselves who appreciate watches for their heritage and technical superiority are only a small segment of the watch market, Hublot targets the types that want a Rolex because it says Rolex on the dial

And copy cat of AP and RM
Very true.
@@normantong3475 AP copied Hublot on the rubber strap.
It all depends on what moves you... I love my Hublot classic fusion chronograph (in blue) and get compliments on it all the time.
I chose it after a long watch hunt, having looked at a bunch of different watch styles (Rolex, Nomos, Omega, IWC, Cartier, Grand Seiko, etc.), but it was the trying on the Hublot sparked the most joy on the wrist.
Additionally, the Hublot boutique experience was by far the most welcoming experience I had... Every Hublot boutique I've gone into encourages interaction with the watches, handing over $100k watches to try on for fun (rather than some boutiques that treated me like I was there to clean the trash bin).
Lots of people don't like them because of their wrist size or they don't have the stature. Totally fine. Get something that's more fitting to your style taste... but I felt like an accountant wearing most of the other 'traditional' brands on my wrist.
Should've gone to Lange, they have the best boutique staff I've ever seen of any watch brand.
Im owning a Classic Fusion Titanium in 42mm and I love it. It has a very clean design and is a perfect business watch. With the rubber wristband it also looks sporty. 42mm is not too big. It looks beautiful when reflecting light and way better than on any photo.
By the way I also like other brands like Rolex, Patek, AP, A. Lange, Breitling etc.
Actually, lots of people dont like them because they charge EUR 15,000 for a Big Bang with an EUR 300 movement inside.
i enjoy my Fusion and Big Bang, I also own 5 Rolex, Royal oak, Omega, Mont Blanc, and a Roger Dubuis. my Big Bang has seen more wrist time than every one other than my Black Sub. Its all just an opinion.
I can tell that you're a 44-46 guy. Hublot is class in that range.
When they asked Mr. Biver about the Big Bang looking like the Royal Oak he said so what ! I love it !
He is an incredible marketeer, but his own collection is made up by pateks and the serial number 00 of every hublot
I’d take an Hublot over an AP these days.
Exactly what I did for all ceramic Hublot. Perfect in all respect.
I accidentally walked into a Hublot boutique the other day, thinking I was in the JLC store which was next door. I was actually amazed at the quality of their watches and the fantastic customer service. Although too big for my liking I do admit Hublot are a forward thinking brand. I didn't mind some of their materials and designs now having seen them in the flesh. The staff were very helpful and friendly, letting me handle the pieces and showing me the straps etc. Then I left and walked into JLC. Which I was intending to visit to order a strap for my Reverso which I was wearing. To my disgust, I experienced the worst customer service ever. There were 3 ladies staff. They looked at me as if I had violated their space by visiting their store. Then one of them literally said what do you want. I told them I was after a strap. Without even asking any questions she rejected my query straight out by saying they don't have stock because of Covid. She didn't give me any waiting time frame or ask me about my watch. It was the rudest, pathetic service ever. Then within 5 minutes of me walking into the store she escorted me to the door. What the f@#$? A monkey could have been trained to provide a better experience. JLC have the worst customer service ever and with sales staff like that I would sell my Reverso to buy a Hublot, I am so ashamed to be wearing your brand.
Seems legit
I still think JLC makes better watches and I think you just picked a "rotten apple". I feel very sorry I think you should have talked to their manager, because you have all the right to do so!

Great subject matter for a video Anna!! I have the Hublot Meca 10. It’s my all time favorite watch. Their research and development group really hit it out of the park with the Meca and Unico movements.I also have JLC Master Compressor, AP Royal Oak, and Rolex Daytona. I think Hublots in house movements are on par with anything else in their price class. Hublots shortcomings are taking design cues from AP and lack of pedigree.
Meca 10 is a dream. Their 8-day power reserve movement is also badass.
Anne wearing a Polerouter makes everything right again in this world.
Yea right.
My Anna shrine is better than yours
Anna is extremely knowledgable and fun to watch on this channel. Thank you for another great video!
Unless you own all the watches, you can’t have an objective view, the judgements are solely based on feelings, impressions, and what others say, and all these are mostly turn out to be wrong. So if you don’t own it, don’t judge it and those who does. Buying watch is buying what you like, what you love, and investment for joy after all . Peace ✌️
Dear God, so many cuts, it makes you wonder wether or even spoke a whole sentence or just edited the words together. Nice video though! Speak to your editor though.
The original video had too many vomit and hacking scenes every time she said something positive about Hublot that had to be cut.
Personally I have nothing against Hublot in particular, I think the Classic Fusion for example is actually quite cool. They really lean into the bold, oversized watch trend which is much more popular with 'mainstream' public than it is with the watch community.
For me, I just think at the price point they're at they have SO much competition and I would almost always pick something else over one. Just preference really.
As much I respect Patek Phillipe, Rolex and Audemars Piguet. I'm actually a fan of Hublot especially from the point Mr Biver was very active at Hublot. Yes some of their watches look outrageous but they have a lot of fun and standout beautiful looking pieces. In terms of craftsmanship, lets be honest, they've been very innovative in terms of new materials i.e magic gold, one of the first t use rubber straps on precious metals and come up with so many strap material variations like nomex which some other brands have adopted . Hublot have their own In house movements and complications so think they deserve some respect of their own. I don't care what nobody says "I do like Hublot" and very open minded about something new not the usual traditional and reputable brands like the other big 3 in the Industry I mentioned.
Great videos :)
You are the nerdy version of Riley Reid ;)

If "everyone" hated hublot, then the company would've been in bankruptcy long ago... there needs to be hundreds of thousands if not millions of people who like or even love the brand and what it offers to the point of still being in the market and even having the luxury of selling them for thousands of dollars...
So this is a fallacy!
Russian gangsters in Adidas track suits are keeping Hublot solvent.
My friend has one , women love it , I have Bentley B05 unitime in 18kt , yes a moment of madness . I’d prefer a Hublot , cool watch 👍🏻

I give Hublot the same amount of respect that I would give Rolex. However I have more appreciation for Hublot’s innovation and being anything but boring and as pedestrian as Rolex. And not just for their exceptional work with materials and metallurgical advances but also for their high end movements.
I love hublots
I have zero feelings towards RO and Nautilus, no matter how much I look at them. Nothing. Hublot I blindly hated back in a days along with RM, Rolex etc. Now I'm planning on acquiring a couple of their timepieces.
They have several watches no other brand offered. So, instead of boring Rolex, PP and AP, I may opt for Hublot. And having few before, I can confirm about stellar quality, never ever problem, comfortable wearing and clasp.
Tudor, IWC, Omega, Panerai and Breitling have used eta movements. Hublot uses Selita and everyone loses their mind.

A lovely brand. Great customer experience. I received a handwritten extended warranty card from JCB. Every year they would send me a Xmas card. Who can beat that…
I had exactly the same experience. Asked a question on watch forum late one Friday evening and got a response from JCB 10 minutes later, then received a spiffy wooden presentation box a few days later. Seems like everything that made hublot a less preferred brand, happened in the past. And some of these "WatCh EntHusiaStz" just hate on it because they think it makes them look cool.
Good stuff I love my Hublot Oceanographic 1000m and 4000m in both Ti and CF. Really awesome watches.
OK, you may not like a particular design/look (like with all manufacturers), but you can’t have it both ways and say Hublot is “subpar” given the materials they use and when a number their pieces utilize for instance a skeletonized version of the Zenith El Primero chronograph movement (also employed in some highly collectible Rolex Daytona models), in addition to in-house movements like the incredibly accurate UNICO and the HUB1201, which was developed over a span of two years specifically for the MECA-10 model with 10 days of power reserve.
Hublot is for real men, just like Panerai
The amount of bandwagonners and groupies of pride and pinion is insane 😂 Rolex is a great brand but it can get pretty freaking boring, the hublot unicos, especially their ferraris are a nice change of scenery.
One of the best summaries on this brand I've ever seen. the main thing I did not like about this brand was their ambassadors and The styling
ah yes, a good reason not to like a watch brand is because you hate the people who wear it
I have never heard a single person say they hate hublot

I'll preface this by saying I hate Hublot and I'm willing to learn and change my opinions.
For that purpose, this video felt a little incomplete.
This video seemed poorly researched and rushed in order to fulfill the deadline of a content calendar.
No hate, I would like to learn more if you make a Part 2.
P.S. I owe 3 Rolexs and 2 Omegas so please don't tell me I'm a cheap-ass who can't afford Swiss Watches and that's why I'm complaining.
I was a ceo, so I had to have a few watches. I decided for breitling, because they look very different inside the brand. I even bought a Rolex and a patek. I heard the bad things they say about this brand, but if u r not a watch lover, it’s just a symbol for money, I’m not into that anymore since the iwatch came. Way 2 much money , except u have to represent a company. I didn’t sold any, but I hardly wear one. So in the end i would say if u love watches (unlike me) buy what U like, not what experts say, u never going to sell it anyway
I just bought a classic fusion
Love this watch
Its thin, light, and good looking
One thing i noticed is that watch lovers love the classic fusion, and not the big bang
I like the Big Bang and not the Classic Fusion. 💁♂️ The Big Bang actually is to Hublot what the 911 is to Porsche.
Hublot is fine reason i enjoy the watch is mainly because of Jean Claude Biver . Those who hate Hublot are clearly snobs and twats. And yes i know watches before you judge on anything i'm Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie certified. Snobs like to say people who own Hublot are young people who don't know watches. You can't use traditional attitude when approaching Hublot, it's a new brand, it's normal that they don't focus on heritage since they have none. What they have is modern technology and designs. It's fun with great quality.
hublot was the brand that made me love watches. no longer hublot fan now 😂
Some varients of the Big bang are cool, but I can't stand the non synmetrical case-screws!
Thank you, Anna. I love this video. I really do believe that Hublot gets way more hate than it deserves from "watch enthusiasts".

Whatever you say Hublot watches are beautiful with high quality
There's a brand for everyone. Why should we all wear a rolex, AP or patek on our rists? At least hublot don't artificially keep their main watch prices high by keeping supply low! Unlike some brands. I love how u can go into a hublot boutique and have a selection of soo many different watches to suit who u r. If u have the money buy what u like I say, don't limit your choice to just a few brands. I don't hate any brand but I do find it funny when u get after market custom rolexes with open dial or skeleton GMT's with carbon bezels😂 some brands just won't give the people what they want onky what they should be lucky to have

I am not a lover of the Hubloet brand and probably will not purchase one. However, when the royal oak was released in 1972, they had the same hate. They struggled to sell because of the overpriced steel watch that look different. Also the Daytona when it was released struggled big time. Look how 30 years have changed for these time pieces.
Nice video!
I like HUBLOT, In my opinion it’s the more innovative and younger AP!
I had an AP Offshore, now a Big Bang Unico King Gold Ceramic, and it’s a dream👌I love it🙃
I like Big bang. Just wanna find a watch you can casually wear in sports.
I would be caught dead with hublot. Not sure what it is but the class fusion is the only watch I like.
"Everyone"? Come on, not even close. There's a lot of people that loves Hublot and I understand them. To each their own.
Totally agree. Take Hublot Spirit with Meca-10 hand-wound movement for example. If it had Richard Mille written on it, Nico would be creaming his pants. Or take Unico 1280 movements with silicon everything fly back chronograph and 3 day power reserve ... decent stuff IMO. Ok, Zenith El Primero 21 is more interesting and better deal ... but Hublot is not the shite that people claim it is. And trust me, once you start noticing that even your neighbourhood convenience store clerk is wearing a Rolex, you’ll be craving something different. Perhaps even Hublot.
Where did Anna go?
The original Hublot from the 80s was very luxurious and classy, but nowadays it’s very weird.
Anna, I bought a Universal Geneve Polerouter Date bc of your video of the stainless steel one. 18k and champagne dial
I don't own one but would like to. I think they look great. Honestly, Rolex has no complications and no one says it's rubbish. All watches are overpriced, all of them copy one another. If you care about movements it's not just Hublot who are average but so is one of the holy trinity(Audemars Piguet). Just buy what you enjoy, I just got myself a seamaster and perhaps Hublot is next
Love the new set up Anna, happy you have your Universal back 👌🏻👍🏻
Anna OK, but you didn’t explain WHY ‘no’ Hublot is not an ‘obnoxious brand for obnoxious people’ where are the examples? No examples.
We love Polerouter.
I don't hate that brand. I have 6 watches from Rolex to grand seikos i have one Hublot BigBang and o Rock that watch almost every day. It goes well for my uninformed way I dress. Sometimes I use my Rolex but it looks weird on my risk...
What happened to Anna???
The reason why Hublot is hated is because they have no horology history and they do not make their own in house movements. This is key, because they don't make their own movements they're not a "real" watch maker
Same reason Lamborghini was hated. Lamborghini was started by a tractor maker who couldn’t get Enzo Ferrari to build the car he wanted.
Hubolt killed my grandfather
