I feel kinda bad for Jorden that the drama surrounding Firozja overshadowed his victory. He has a great underdog story but the organizers being little shits took everyones eyes off of it.

Not trying to take anything away from the grandmaster, but these specific calculations are very easy for any strong player. With Queen and Rook and so many checking moves, the calculations are pretty simple.
@@stanleytime9193 Of course it's not. If it was, you could hypothetically give a beginner the power to calculate 20 moves deep and they still wouldn't find the right moves. Calculation is important, but there's also visualisation, pattern recognition, prior knowledge of positional play or strategy, endgame knowledge, opening knowledge, tactical awareness etc. I'm sure there are other things you could add. Calculation is essentially the 'if this then that' part of the game taken very deep. Chess is more than just that.
@@CosyBrew I mean, calculation requires all of those right? You can't give a beginner the power to calculate 20 moves without being able to judge whether a position is good or certain patterns arise etc.
@@MegaKillMeister You've essentially restated my point. All the things I mentioned are required, calculation alone is not chess. Calculation alone isn't enough precisely because all those other aspects of the game have to work with it. Calculation is then a critically important tool in a package. But alone, the ability to look deep isn't just what chess is about. Neither can you say that those things *are* calculation, because they're all uniquely different, even if bound up with it. Saying chess is fundamentally just calculation is false. No doubt it's extremely important.
Sorry, what he shows in this video is not amazing. What these players like him calculate in the whole game is amazing, but this is not shown in that video. So ....stupid comment, sorry.
Hikaru is bad at classical chess, he doesn't want to show it. That's why you will never see him participating in a top classical tournament again. Just look at the last two classical tournaments he played: Sinquefield 2019 he got 9th out of 12, and Croatia grand chess tour he got 12th out of 12 lol
@@LePingouin92 I am a too a poor chess player, but calcutions like this are not spectacular for since it’s pretty straightforward with heavy pieces. But for sure I wouldn’t find it myself. Yet the 10th at the time strongest player missed the line. Could be due to time trouble but still. It was missed
Pretty simple to FOLLOW, it’s a whole different matter when you’re the one strategizing it in the heat of a game or on the receiving end
