    New subscriber here. I have the Fiskars, Great States and the Earthwise reel mowers. I have modified all of them starting with the Fiskars in Spring of 2019. They all have their strong points and some weaknesses. I love the Earthwise for convenience and light weight and how well it cuts. I had made it my daily mower when mowing at 1/2 - 3/4" on my KBG. Use my Allett on the weekend for striping. Great job on the how to video.

      Welcome aboard! I love my Earthwise. It weighs nothing and is super quiet. You’ve got a collection. I don’t even know how I would decide to mow with. This was my first time sharpening it and it worked great. I just went for it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Cool . My wife bought a decent reel mower but cut half lawn sits sat in the basement . I have ten power mowers and riders that I tinker with. I’m very interested in using this reel mower for the front lawn .

      @theSuburbiaDad  Рік тому

      I say go for it! It is something different. It is very satisfying to be the power source for the mechanical action. You’d just have to mow more consistently to avoid taking too much at once. In my experience, reels don’t like taking a lot of grass if a blade.

      @@Uncle_Fester24 I have had zero issues towing the cart behind the Ariens! It’s super simple to pull by hand as well. Okay so I’m a total noob to reel mowing and earth wise 16 is what I’m learning on. Are you suppose to adjust it to where it freely spins as good as yours is? I have mine adjusted slightly tighter where you kinda had it when sharpening. Not that tight, but tight enough it makes a distinctive noise of the blades rubbing the cutter. It’s definitely not a silent operation while cutting, and I’m curious if I have mine too tight. It cuts good, but I also have no idea how it’s technically suppose to be

    • @theSuburbiaDad
      @theSuburbiaDad  Рік тому

      I’d say adjust it to where it spins freely, but as close to the bed knife is humanly possible. If it sounds like metal grinding on metal or is not a breeze to push, adjust. It will cut great and be more enjoy. Plus, if it is silent, you can mow anytime you want.
      Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

    • @theSuburbiaDad
      @theSuburbiaDad  2 роки тому

      Nope. I left it where it was after sharpening. After the process, it was spinning like butter where it was. I’m sure you can adjust it if you want, but mine was perfect! Thanks for watching!

    After adjusting the height on my Earthwise it clunks more now? I never took the C clips off like an idiot or maybe their called E clips im not sure. Any ideas why? Both wheels spin the blades so the gears should be in the right spot. Also there is play on the wheel guard casing thing. It seems like it should be flush but it moves around a little. Is that normal?

    • @theSuburbiaDad
      @theSuburbiaDad  2 місяці тому +1

      It sound like, maybe, the reel is too close to the bed knife. Adjust the screws on either side until it spins freely with as little gap as possible between the knife and reel. That’s my best guess. When I’ve had clunk sounds that was why. Hope this helps!

  • @troyhenry3267

    What's actually doing the sharpening??
    The compound or the bed knife?

    • @theSuburbiaDad
      @theSuburbiaDad  Рік тому

      The friction of the compound to bed knife. The compound is like a sand gel mix. As it spins it recreates an edge.

    What kind of attachment do I need on my drill to attach to the mower to spin the blades??

    • @theSuburbiaDad

      None. Just a 1/2 chuck and it goes right on. Then just tighten it down and go.

      My power drill chuck is not wide enough to fit the bolt, is there an adapter to put on my drill so that it would fit?

    • @theSuburbiaDad
      @theSuburbiaDad  Рік тому

      I am not sure. You need a 1/2 chuck if I recall correct. The drill doesn’t have to be fancy. I like corded for this, plus they are cheaper. Another option, I think you can buy a hand tool that will let you manually spin it to backlap it.

    How often do you find yourself sharpening the blades on the earthwise?

    • @theSuburbiaDad
      @theSuburbiaDad  Рік тому

      If the turf looks like it isn’t being cut or the grass blades look like they are being just ripped, it’s time. I don’t have a huge area I use it on, therefore rarely.
