    Best advice I could give any new driver is be prepared to serve every stop each trip, Even if no one has pressed the bell or looks like they're getting up to get off, saves a lot of potential conflict and stress. DON'T chase the times on your duty card, they are for guidance only, let the controllers in the air conditioned ibus suites worry about your late running, they get paid more than you. If you get booked then the words "Proceeding Normally" and "working to instruction" are some of the tools available to drivers defending against being booked. If possible record yourself doing first use checks and make sure you get your duty card and Ibus screen as proof of time and date as well. I've had controllers turn up halfway through my check and then book me for poor first use check, even though he missed me doing the whole check. Theres some sneaky people in the bus industry!

    I only allow my passengers off at the front ONLY if i dont have a mass of people at the front waiting to borad. At that point I only open the back first untill the people at the front have turned and gone down far enough to only get off at the back. Then i open the front for passengers to board. But if its empty at the front, ill open both doors, especially if its a busy stop where nearly everyone gets off

    I very rearly get people just walk on my bus, not even teens. Im the type that listens to them and just let them on. Im on a router so im always driving the same bus for every shift. So maybe its because theyve seen that i allow them to board because theyve asked, or if i see someone that has issues with their card, ill let them on anyways. So i think they know im not a troublesome driver and simply just ask, even if they see me on a daily basis, theyll still ask. But thats just on MY route lol 😅

    We touched on the ringing the bell or putting your hand out subject the other week so I checked it out, According to the TFL website drivers are required to stop at recognised bus stops, those that are white with a red roundel with Bus Stop written underneath, whereas stops that are red with a white roundel with Request written below drivers are only required to stop if the bell is rung or someone puts their hand out. Obviously somewhere along the line this isn't being taught as you're not aware of it. Still the good news is you can now cross that one off your pet peeves list. Apart from that keep up the good work,.

    My oh my another laughing afternoon. Now here are some questions for you from a passenger:
    1. Why or why do bus drivers start driving the bus as soon as you touch your card sending you flying down the bus or even falling over? Last week a disabled man fell over and hit his head, all the bus driver did was stop the bus say 'sorry' wait until he was seated then drove off again, no report or anything. I was in two minds whether or not to report it after the disabled man said he's OK but he clearly wasn't.
    2. Bus drivers have an uncany nack of watching you run like Ussain Bolt to the bus stop and as soon as you tap the bus the driver drives off with a smirk on his face? I no longer run mate, been burned way too many times and I think they enjoy seeing the chase.
    3. Can you do an episode on the things you've experience when schools close around 3/4pm and all those kids fill the bus in seconds? My gosh, its a nightmare at times.
    Have a great weekend and thanks again for your pet peeves mate.

    • @petitechxls4429
      @petitechxls4429 Рік тому

      I’ll answer your questions as a bus driver.
      1. Bus drivers don’t have to sit and wait for you to go and get comfy in your seats. only for vulnerable passengers that need extra time such as elderly or people with children. If we waited for every one to sit down at every bus stop no one will get anywhere. Especially passengers that hold up the bus digging to the bottom of your bag for your card. Get it together. We also don’t have to wait for you to get a seat because you may not want to sit down.
      2. Never run for the bus. Take it from me. It’s a bus not a Uber we’re not going to wait for you. Once the bus stop is served we can go. And those that will waste their time to complain because the bus left you and now you feel like a mug, I guarantee nothing will happen to the driver because driver has already done his job which was let people on and off. No where does it say to sit and wait for runners. Also, if your running for the bus and you fall over, the first thing you will say is the bus driver was waiting for me. That’s why I’m gone so nobody can put it on me to why they fell over running in the middle of the road for the sake of a bus. TfL even advise to plan your journey and leave in enough time so when passengers get mad at the driver because he didn’t wait for you and now your late is definitely not a bus driver problem.

      🤣🤣🫡, fellow driver did answer you but yes we only wait for you to sit if your disabled , elderly or with kids otherwise we'd be there all day and plus we are on a time schedule. However that driver was wrong for not waiting for the disabled passenger to sit. Was that passenger visibly disabled? Because if not maybe the driver didn't know. Did you report it?
      2. I don't think drivers like watching passengers run🤣 but the driver could be late so if he or she has waited for you to run then as soon as you tap they will drive off and especially if you get on and don't say thank you. But yeah it's best not to run🤣🤣 run only if your close to it or if there's other people still boarding.
      3. You know, it may surprise you but I don't get much school kids on my bus and when I have they've been well behaved, I don't have any horror stories😂
      Thanks for your comments!😊

  • @rohanw1989
    @rohanw1989 9 місяців тому

    Things that annoy me as a driver.
    1. People not putting their hand out when multiple routes seeve the stop or when they give the intention they want your bus you then stop and then they dont get on or lool at you like why hace you stopped. Also those who are sitting or standing at a stop and only your route serves that stop so you srop and again they dont get on or lool at you like why have you stopped (i mean why are you standing or sitting at the bus stop causing confusion if you dont want the bus? Stand or sit somewhere else.
    2. Ringing the bell late or ringing the bell multiple times. There is zero reason for one person especially to ring the bell lile 5-8 times. Especially when your oj a bus where there is the ibus announcements display showing bus stopping, there is a seperate bell at the front of the bus (enviro 200/400s for example) or even on a wrightbus vehcile where the bells are so loud.
    3. People who had enligh time to get their bus pass ready at the bus stop yet wait until they get on and atart searching for it, holding everyone up.
    4. Passengers waiting at closed bus stops, especially if there is roadworks right infront of that stop, likewise those who ring the bell for a closed stop after you have jist made or played the announcement of bus stop is closed.
    4a. Those who suddenly rush to get off when you start going in a dofferent direction after having made an announcement the bus is on diversion, then they want to get off in some random place.
    4b. Those who want you to let them on/off at traffic lights, roundabouts or zebrw crossings.
    4c. Those passengers wbo take so long to get off the bus, especially school/college kids who ait at the back lf the bus or upstairs and wait until you start closing the doors then they want to get off.
    4d. Passengers who are extremely lazy and get on to go to the next stop, yes i understand people have disabilities etc but honestly there are many times people have stood at the first stop for 5 or more minutes to then get off next stop which is less than 1 minute walk or they run for the bus to to then get off at the next stop to then walk back??
    4e. Those passengers who get on at a stop then get off at the next stop or 2 stops later to wait for another bus which serves the same stop in which they got on? So why not just wait for the bus that you needed at the stop you got on?
    4f. Those passengers who let a bus go to then get on your bus which goes to the same place especially if the end of your route is in 2 -4 stops and the bua they let go, goes further. In some cases the bus that they let go is the bus they actually needed to get to where they are going
    4g. Thoae passengers who get on and dont say anything until after 10-15 mins or end of route then ask do you go to xyz? Or is this bus route xyz? Like why did you not ask this when you got on? As often they need to go the other direction or need another service.
    5. Road users who sit behind the bus as your serving the stop, then wait until your about to move off to try and overtake, like why did you not do that whilst i was serving the stop?
    5a. Those road users who wont let you out, then then proceed to drive very slow infront i.e 12-15mph in a 30mph limit.
    5b. Those road users who dont let you out of a bus stop etc then proceed to park up on the left or right or turn left or right infront of the bus.
    5c. On narrow roads those who dont give the bus way even if they have nowhere to go then block the road as a result.
    6. I also agree about the giving way to another large vehicle and a car overtakes and then even blocks the road.
