Nalbandian and Agassi, IMHO, were the two players that Federer REALLY wanted to prove himself against. You can tell in all the early matches against those two guys, Fed's intensity and need to win feels really palpable. Nalbandian was an uber talent.
He actually totally trashed Nadal twice on hard courts. It happened in their first two h2h in back to back tournaments... I remember that they never happened to play against each other before those matches, for a pretty long time (almost 3 full seasons I think).... Which was a little bit weird, because during the same time, they were training together very often, so they obviously knew each other extremely well (and were good friends too), despite there was no record of official matches yet😅
Nah, in 2005 he played quite good tennis, but his movement was quite careful, not really free at all. He was just coming out of a recent, pretty bad ankle injury.
@@bbbazzingait was also his "I can beat you at your own game" period. I remember a match of baseline hard paced rallies vs Agassi at Miami 2005. The rhythm was so insanely high, that it made me so nervous,😂 despite the match never was really in discussion...he was playing right into Agassi's own territory, and that was worrying me so much🤣 But he was actually taking the ball even earlier than Andre (another "I'll beat you at your own game" moment), which made Agassi's win nearly impossible.
nalbandian was probably the second best hitter in the world at this point. the problem was he wasn't a great athlete and had kindof a garbage serve, and he was playing the best hitter in the world.
@@fejuncorNalbandian was a great hitter, but that's all. Federer was an unbelievable hitter too, with a definitely stronger forehand. So no, David is not the most talented ever. It's that backhand, so fluid and unreadable, which required particular, careful treatment even from peak Federer. But overall, Roger was the most talented ever to hold a racquet.
@@pierdomenicosommati443 He was not just a great hitter, he was an amazing tennis player. At his best on fast court, he could make Nadal, Murray and Djokovic look like amateurs. in fact he clearly demonstrated this more than once, at the same tourtanment. The only one to beat the big 3. It wasn't a coincidence. I would say that Nalbandian is really the only one who would have the capacity to defeat the 3 like he did. I doubt any other player would achieve this. Now, having the discipline and consistency to play like this is another point. The way Nalbandina, Sampras and Federer act is extremely difficult to maintain. It's much easier to abuse topsim and stay at the back of the court playing safe. Im a tnnis player. A huge difference is that Sampras and Federer had much more reach to serve, notoriously two of the biggest servers in history, statistically. Playing with so high lvl of risk without being able to rely on service is difficult, or maybe impossible.
So unbeatable during this period
If it wasn't for Rafa he would've only lost 1 match during 2006.
He was beatwn by Rafa in Dubai and clay tournamentes. And Murray too in cincinnati
@@Logan00710 that wasn’t during this streak
My two favorite tenis players.
Just passing through on my journey to watch every Federer match.

Wow. I have NEVER seen this match.
And just to add: Federer in 2006 was unbelievable!!!
4 losses vs. Nadal in 2006, 3 on clay, 1 on hard court.
Yeah, his record was 92-5.
@@jtatsiue He blew Nadal away in this tournament and also at Wimbledon that year. So what's your point?
@Angelous Bacon Murray, Cincinnati.
@@ifeanyiikpegbu6465 The numbers speak for themselves, what do you think I'm implying?
I remember watching this match live. Federer just switched to a different ruthless gear
Such a god mode,
His best match by far
Real shame Nalbandian fell apart in the last two sets otherwise we might have seen even more of Fed playing at this kind of level.
We could've had an epic match but unfortunately Nalbandian like you said just capitulated in the last two sets.
Golden legend in universal
@1:14 world best two handed backhand for sure if not one of the greatest's for sure.
What a player....
Nobody in history can beat that Federer. Whatever boomer Wilander says
People forget how good Nalbandian was. He beat Federer, Nadal and Djokovic when they were both young.

Night and Day performance from 2005 Masters, much sharper.

he'd be a great coach for Federer
In 2006 Federer was in different realm
He was so fast!
How can someone get the glorious track playing at the end?

I don’t know about the athlete part, but he didn’t have world class fitness to back up his ranking.
Best hitter, I'd argue
Nalbandian, for me, is the most talented player ever. When was on, he was unbeatable. But yeah, he was not a great athlete.
