This is a forest with very nice green trees...very cool....the river is very clear... A very pleasant mountain hike... It is imperative to preserve the natural environment...

Hi Nicole! How are you guys? It was really great to finally meet John ‘in person’. We did have a lot of fun… I felt brave holding on with just one hand to take a few video clips- lol. Taking a ride at these stables was a great experience for us. The horses were nice and calm and we felt pretty comfortable after we got going. It was hard for me to picture all the creeks and streams and seeps until I visited the Smokies myself- and whew, lots of waterfalls too! They have a wide variety of deciduous trees, with lots of different leaf shapes, and lots of wonderful creeks and streams. Thanks so much, you too, have a great weekend!!
I have never rode on horseback except one time when I was little and it technically wasn’t a horse it was a pony at the Townsend Fair Show. It was so much fun though! I have also rode through the Cades Cove horse trail by horse and wagon too and it was so much fun as well!! The Smokies has so many great things to get into!! Glad y’all had a great time!

I stayed in Townsend one night, just before I left, nice little town. I really fell in love with the Smokies, I can see why you love it too. Hi Chris- thanks, yes, it was lovely! Thankfully the horses were ready for us beginners! They just kept going one step at a time in single file. Going in small groups was a great idea too. Are you an experienced rider? I’ve wanted to trail ride before… I’m sure I’ll go again if I get the opportunity! 😄🐴🐴⛰⛰👌
@@JenniferLupine Hi, no not an experienced rider, I’ve been in the saddle a few times and have always been struck by how carefully the horse places its four feet especially going down hill and how high up you seem. My best analogy was it was like being in my Kayak six feet in the air 😀. I have several friends who are “right into horses” , they all joke that the cheapest thing is the horse, then comes the Horsefloat (trailer) , the vehicle big enough to tow said trailer, the farrier, the vet bills and the grazing !! I preferred not to have them on my farm, they eat too much, are so much more work than looking after cattle and have a habit of leaning on fences and standing in one place. Having said all that my horsie friends love their animals dearly and treat them very carefully. There is a very funny Larson cartoon which shows a veterinary hand book for horses with “shoot” as the correct treatment for all horse ailments 🙁 Beach riding is very popular here and some of the regional parks, I think have specific horse areas. I know there is a big forest park out west the Woodhill Forest that a lot of people ride in. I think horses are a bit like swimming pools, the best ones are your neighbours or friends. Like cattle they are a big animal that deserves respect and knowing how to behave around, I always found a bit of mutual respect not making any sudden of unexpected movements and letting cattle and horses smell you as you get near them goes a long way to staying out of trouble and after all horses can bite while cattle can’t but both of them can easily kick you over a fence. !!😀 I actually hit a horse in my car about 25 years ago which was out of control with its rider and jumped about 10 feet off a high verge and onto the road right in front of me not far from where I was living , the rubber I laid on the road was there for a year and the horse just toppled onto the front of the car smashed the windscreen followed by the rider & I tearing off down the road trying to catch it before somebody coming the other way slammed into it. I found out later that the horse had a habit of “going mental” less than ideal for a teenage rider . I thought my number was up that day one ton of horse at head height .
@@Chris-NZ Whew! I’m very happy that you survived that crazy horse encounter! Very crazy! We see horse riders sometimes on some of the hiking trails here, and we are always quiet and stand well away. I’m for having separate trails for the people / horses (and bicycles). We hiked at the Grand Canyon and saw some people on very calm mules, but on that trail I’d rather walk! Yes, I think you’re right, nice to have friends with horses, or just pay for a trail ride once in awhile!! Riding on the beaches sounds fun too! 🐴🐴🌳
@@JenniferLupine I agree , less than ideal having horses (and their toilet habits) on people trails and I would think bikes coming up behind them would scare the hell out of them.

I've had the pleasure of doing some hiking in the Smoky Mountains, but I've never had the opportunity to see any of that beautiful scenery on horseback! Cool idea! Seemed like they picked a smart spot for a break/turnaround point 👍
I’m so glad you’ve been able to hike in the Smokies, so you know what it’s like, wonderful forest and so many creeks and streams. Yes, I agree, it’s a perfect place to dismount, stretch the legs a bit, and see a lovely waterfall/ cascade. It had rained a lot the few days before, so I think we got an extra special view! 🌳🌳🐴🐴

Hi Suri! This was a great opportunity - I’d recommend trying a trail ride sometime, if you haven’t yet! I’ve seen them offered other places but haven’t gone for one reason or another. Yes, there’s lots to do at the Smokies.. I think they have a horse and wagon ride too, which might be fun for families. I loved going at the end of May when all the fresh green leaves were out on the trees- people like it Fall too for the change of color! 👌😄🌳🌳🐴🐴

Hi Kaat! Right, not too difficult at all! It really was fun- nice change from being on foot! The horses were great going up hill… much faster than walking. I think they’re very used to this trail and they’re well trained. Yes, it was great for me to meet John ‘in person’ too, for the first time. I’ve been following his channel for a couple years… always fun to meet YT friends and adventure together! Thanks Steve! We sure had a great time … Molly and Pearl were the perfect horses for us! I loved that too when he said, “I love my Molly!” Thank goodness our horses knew what to do, follow along and stay calm. The creek area there was super pretty and fun to see the deer and the waterfall/ cascade. John was the one who first spotted the deer… that was the only one I saw while hiking in the Smokies. Sure was a fun trip all around…. great to see you and Kristy there too- glad everyone got home safe 👌 🌳🌳🐴🐴

Good morning! Thanks- it was a great experience! I can understand being nervous! Fortunately the horses are very well practiced at walking along this trail and they are sure footed next to the water. We had a group of just 6 with our trail guide… once we got going and got used to it we were able to relax. Most places will have a one hour ride if you want to give it a try sometime! Thanks!! 😄🌳🌳🌳
Oh wow this looks absolutely magical! That scenery but seeing and experiencing it from horseback must've been incredible! Hello, and thanks so much! I hope you can try a trail ride too! These stables have a one hour ride as an option too. We felt brave to take the longer trip and go see the waterfall. The horses are very well trained and are calm and walk slowly, so you don’t have to worry about them going fast. The trail guide is right nearby to help if you need it. Yea, I’m always on foot, so it was fun to try a trail ride! Thankfully the horses were very calm and so even beginners can have a good time. I really enjoyed Cherokee, especially at the end of May, everything was very fresh and green. It’s pretty far away for me, but I hope I can go again some day! Thanks! 🐴🐴🌳🌳

Hi Chris- thanks, yes, it was lovely! Thankfully the horses were ready for us beginners! They just kept going one step at a time in single file. Going in small groups was a great idea too. Are you an experienced rider? I’ve wanted to trail ride before… I’m sure I’ll go again if I get the opportunity! 😄🐴🐴⛰⛰👌
@@JenniferLupine Hi, no not an experienced rider, I’ve been in the saddle a few times and have always been struck by how carefully the horse places its four feet especially going down hill and how high up you seem. My best analogy was it was like being in my Kayak six feet in the air 😀. I have several friends who are “right into horses” , they all joke that the cheapest thing is the horse, then comes the Horsefloat (trailer) , the vehicle big enough to tow said trailer, the farrier, the vet bills and the grazing !! I preferred not to have them on my farm, they eat too much, are so much more work than looking after cattle and have a habit of leaning on fences and standing in one place. Having said all that my horsie friends love their animals dearly and treat them very carefully. There is a very funny Larson cartoon which shows a veterinary hand book for horses with “shoot” as the correct treatment for all horse ailments 🙁 Beach riding is very popular here and some of the regional parks, I think have specific horse areas. I know there is a big forest park out west the Woodhill Forest that a lot of people ride in. I think horses are a bit like swimming pools, the best ones are your neighbours or friends. Like cattle they are a big animal that deserves respect and knowing how to behave around, I always found a bit of mutual respect not making any sudden of unexpected movements and letting cattle and horses smell you as you get near them goes a long way to staying out of trouble and after all horses can bite while cattle can’t but both of them can easily kick you over a fence. !!😀 I actually hit a horse in my car about 25 years ago which was out of control with its rider and jumped about 10 feet off a high verge and onto the road right in front of me not far from where I was living , the rubber I laid on the road was there for a year and the horse just toppled onto the front of the car smashed the windscreen followed by the rider & I tearing off down the road trying to catch it before somebody coming the other way slammed into it. I found out later that the horse had a habit of “going mental” less than ideal for a teenage rider . I thought my number was up that day one ton of horse at head height .

We see horse riders sometimes on some of the hiking trails here, and we are always quiet and stand well away. I’m for having separate trails for the people / horses (and bicycles). We hiked at the Grand Canyon and saw some people on very calm mules, but on that trail I’d rather walk! Yes, I think you’re right, nice to have friends with horses, or just pay for a trail ride once in awhile!!

I've had the pleasure of doing some hiking in the Smoky Mountains, but I've never had the opportunity to see any of that beautiful scenery on horseback! Cool idea! Seemed like they picked a smart spot for a break/turnaround point 👍
I’m so glad you’ve been able to hike in the Smokies, so you know what it’s like, wonderful forest and so many creeks and streams. Yes, I agree, it’s a perfect place to dismount, stretch the legs a bit, and see a lovely waterfall/ cascade. It had rained a lot the few days before, so I think we got an extra special view! 🌳🌳🐴🐴

Hi Suri! This was a great opportunity - I’d recommend trying a trail ride sometime, if you haven’t yet! I’ve seen them offered other places but haven’t gone for one reason or another. Yes, there’s lots to do at the Smokies.. I think they have a horse and wagon ride too, which might be fun for families. I loved going at the end of May when all the fresh green leaves were out on the trees- people like it Fall too for the change of color! 👌😄🌳🌳🐴🐴

Hi Kaat! Right, not too difficult at all! It really was fun- nice change from being on foot! The horses were great going up hill… much faster than walking. I think they’re very used to this trail and they’re well trained. Yes, it was great for me to meet John ‘in person’ too, for the first time. I’ve been following his channel for a couple years… always fun to meet YT friends and adventure together! Hope you’re having great weather and a fun spring… it’s been pretty wet and rainy here in WA! 🤣💦💦

Thanks Steve! We sure had a great time … Molly and Pearl were the perfect horses for us! I loved that too when he said, “I love my Molly!” Thank goodness our horses knew what to do, follow along and stay calm. The creek area there was super pretty and fun to see the deer and the waterfall/ cascade. John was the one who first spotted the deer… that was the only one I saw while hiking in the Smokies. Sure was a fun trip all around…. great to see you and Kristy there too- glad everyone got home safe 👌

Good morning! Thanks- it was a great experience! I can understand being nervous! Fortunately the horses are very well practiced at walking along this trail and they are sure footed next to the water. We had a group of just 6 with our trail guide… once we got going and got used to it we were able to relax. Most places will have a one hour ride if you want to give it a try sometime! Thanks!! 😄🌳🌳🌳

Hello, and thanks so much! I hope you can try a trail ride too! These stables have a one hour ride as an option too. We felt brave to take the longer trip and go see the waterfall. The horses are very well trained and are calm and walk slowly, so you don’t have to worry about them going fast. The trail guide is right nearby to help if you need it. Once you get comfortable it’s really fun to see the views and enjoy riding!

Yea, I’m always on foot, so it was fun to try a trail ride! Thankfully the horses were very calm and so even beginners can have a good time. I really enjoyed Cherokee, especially at the end of May, everything was very fresh and green. It’s pretty far away for me, but I hope I can go again some day! Thanks! 🐴🐴🌳🌳
