    What a wonderful demonstration. This is something I have struggled with greatly as a very new oil painter. Thank you.

    Kaylee, what a unique demonstration from seasoned artists to show the backstory of the process. Showing the ingredients and using the method of cleaning was a refreshing example. I have used water based and oil based house paints and the latter it is a tedious odorous task that I hate. When I painted landscapes or still life I intentionally used acrylics for the reasons to avoid oil based paints. But your process seemed more motivating. Thanks much.

      Thank you Paul! I use a small air purifier in the studio and sometimes I refrain from cadmium's but largely all is fair when the brush wash and thinner situation is sorted.

    I'm fixing to retire and I plan on starting to do some oil painting. I love your videos and this is a great the way to clean your brushes.

      Please do! Let me know how it works. You will find you need to modify how you paint just slightly - but it’s worth it

    Thank you. I made this cleaner and wow. It's amazing. Cleans thoroughly and my brushes are so soft. You said you can use this to thin your paint while painting? Wow. Does the soap cause any different effects?

      Yes you can! It doesn’t seem to make any issues … I don’t use anything else!

    Interesting formula, do you wrap the brush in a paper towel to prevent it from flaring out? Or does that not occur with your formula. Thanks Kaylee!

      I don't seem to have any trouble with it but I have before:) I just set them out to dry overnight and they are good to go in about 8 hours.

    Good morning,
    How do you dispose of the wash when it gets too dirty?
    Thank you for your time.

      I use fresh wash every painting. I will dispose of the old wash in a container, and we have an appropriate waste area at the local dump where I take the waste oil/water twice a year to rid of my jugs.

    Would Murphy's soap be a good alternative to dish soap?

    • @KayleeRakowskiArt
      @KayleeRakowskiArt  4 місяці тому

      I'm not sure. I wanted to use the safest I ingredients I could manage for the price so I am not sure how I would like the fragrances and synthetic ingredients in that soap. You could absolutely give it a try and see how it does. Maybe try it and let us know how it goes??

    Since you do this; how do you compensate for getting oil on the brush while you're working a painting? I tried this today but when i needed a clean brush after making a sky I got caught needing multiple brushes and I wasn't ready for that 🤣

    • @KayleeRakowskiArt
      @KayleeRakowskiArt  2 місяці тому

      You do need to adjust the way you paint and dry the brush completely before using it again. I like to wipe the brush on some towels to keep them ready to use. I also use less paint than ever. I typically have two 2" brushes and two 1" brush for each painting. That way if I need a clean dry one I have it. The smaller brushes do really well with the simple cleaning in the brush wash just be sure to wipe them off so there is no excess oil.
      Another tip will be using dirty brushes and ordering the paints accordingly. For instance. Applying the crimson before the blue because blue is stronger and will dirty the brush quicker. Maybe this helps? Let me know!
      My recommendation is - try using less paint on the brush. If you are unable to get the paint to glide, then your canvas needs different prepping so the paint does not soak in as much.

      @@KayleeRakowskiArt Thank you so much for your replies! Super appreciate it. I figured I'm going to just commit and have 3 two-inch hanging as I learn.
      I watched a sunset one you did where you worked from the lighter to darker colors and it makes sense what you mean, as you kept dirtying the same brush since you were going into darker colors.
      Thank you again for the help and videos!

    • @KayleeRakowskiArt
      @KayleeRakowskiArt  4 місяці тому

      Hey Brain! I have tried this on a brush with dried paint... it was not very successful. I think if you used less water and soaked them it could work. This brush wash works best if used immediately after painting

      @@briancoghlan7446 I hear ya. It was a habit I had a difficult time making but in the long run, it saved me from having to purchase brushes all the time. I learned my lessons and now I just bite the bullet and clean up.
      Right now, I usually turn the camera off, take a short break to snack then head back in to the studio with music and jam out and clean up. Should I make a silent video to show you my clean up process? Maybe a timelapse indicating the time spent to clean up my mess?
      Thank you as always for your support. Much appreciated.
