We went full on trad for this video guys and we’ve gotta say the food was AWESOME!! Hope you enjoyed this video. We’d love it if you gave it a thumbs up and don’t forget to subscribe for loads more content 😄 Thanks for your support guys! Have a brilliant weekend. Cheers, Thomas & Sheena 😘
As someone from London I just want to say thank you for showing proper London foods instead of all the real high end expensive foods we have here. What you guys ate is what we normally eat. So glad you enjoyed it 😊
😍😍😍😍 thanks so much for watching Jessica! We had such a blast filming in London. We loved getting into the really trad dishes- it’s what we enjoy eating best! Hope we can get back soon. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the rest of the content on our channel! Cheers, Sheena
It was a joy to film this one! Would love to return one day soon and do a big food tour around England 😍 Thanks for watching and commenting Chris. Cheers, Sheena
Love that you tried the full english breakfast - you had it in what we would term as a Workman's cafe its one of the known places in London were workers (construction workers in the area as well as local office workers) will come for a quick, cheap lunch - because it usually arrives really quickly and is cheap. Lots of places like that around London. If you come back and want to try another pie and mash place try Mother Mash (same sort of ambience with tiled walls etc) - its in Covent Garden or there's one in Carnaby Street - you get to choose different flavoured mash and sausages as well as your pie but you also get to taste an old british fav from the war called bubble and squeak and don't forget mushy peas with fish and chips!! If you go up to North of England you will have to try a deep fried mars bar - take a mars bar into a fish and chip show and ask them to cook it in the batter - never tried it but apparently its amazing. Sheanna you always make me smile with your upbeat personality and kudos to Thomas enjoying jellied eels and black pudding...not if you paid me!! ;-) haha.
Thanks so much for your kind words mate. So happy you are enjoying our content 😄 Mother Mash sounds right up our alley! Every time we visit the UK we wish we had longer (and bottomless pockets of $ 😂) there’s always another pub or restaurant on the already endless list to get to. Loved brekki in the workman’s cafe- quintessential English experience! I’m already excited about our next visit whenever that may be! Thanks for watching 😄 Cheers, Sheena
We agree Eleanor Herron! It was great to get into the food culture a little during our fleeting visit. Hope we can get back soon to do a proper food tour around the UK! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one, hope you enjoy our other London videos! Cheers, Sheena
As others have said it's great to see a video where traditional rustic food is being eaten (when you had the tea with your "Full English" bet you didn't notice it came in a mug and not a tea cup; now thats what i call tradition). spot on guys 👍
PS: thanks for reviewing the cabmen's shelters. I've seen loads of videos of people visiting London and mentioning the sites and places to eat but i've never seen anyone else mention the green huts before.
Thanks for the great comment. Mugs all the way for a cuppa tea! 😀 Glad you enjoy the cab mans shelter piece. We love showing things like that on the channel. Thanks very much for watching mate. Cheers, Thomas 😀
*_eels_* - Not sure why but I skipped eels. Normally they would be a must eat just to say I tried them. *_bacon butty_* - Is the HP sauce typical? My bacon butty was bacon and butter only. Seems like I missed out. I had the option to put tomato sauce or HP on my chip butty but I went with just butter on that as well. I did zero research on both. *_black pudding_* - Had it multiple times during my visit. Quite tasty. In fact, the very first thing I ate after arriving to London was black pudding at a pub near my hotel. They were cut into strips and then pan fried on all sides. Great snack with a couple of pints. *_full English_* - Not a huge fan of baked beans for breakfast but tried it of course. My full breakfast came with fried potatoes but I really wanted bubble and squeak. 😀 Excellent series, guys. London was a home run...despite the choripan!
Hi Tosh, hope you get to try the eels on your next visit- we had them stewed as well but we preferred the jellied. Toppings for your bacon butty is very much a personal thing I believe- some are firmly in the HP camp, others prefer tomato sauce and some like it just with butter. They had bubble and squeak on the menu at the Regency- I wish we'd had time to go back for another meal there- I would definitely have ordered it. Love that black pudding was the first thing you ate upon your arrival! And neat that it was just a pub snack. So glad you enjoyed this series mate. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
Hi Woden, thanks for watching and commenting! The East Londoners are so passionate about them- we had a few people tell us where we could get a whole pot of them for a tenner. Hope you enjoyed this video! Cheers, Sheena
@Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena Yes, that first pub was quite cool - perfect old world meets new scenario; 150 years old with beautiful wooden Victorian interior but now serving craft beers and modern takes on traditional food. Black pudding sticks. Who knew?
I've been to London a few times but never thought to try jellied eels - they just don't sound appetising. But seeing Thomas eat them, and describe their taste and texture, has completely changed my mind. Next time I'm in London I will definitely aim to try some!
Totally get that Josh! Even on the plate they look a bit suspect 😂 But they were delicious- well worth eating. Thanks for watching this video, hope you enjoyed it mate. Cheers, Sheena
Yes! That would have been perfect 🤤 definitely a strong sweet tea kind of a gal! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one Brilliant But Blue. Cheers, Sheena
Full English from a Englishman; bacon, sausage, fried egg, mushroom, black pudding, hash browns, beans, fried slice, maybe tomatoes (only tinned!) definitely bubble and squeak!! & good ol cup of tea! What a set up for the day, don’t call it a all day breakfast for nothing ;) also hp always on hand. You guys have to try a lamb roast all the trimmings there truly is not a better meal FACT! Hope you had fun ! Looks great
Hi James Eastlake, oh my goodness my mouth was watering reading your description 🤤 Tinned tomatoes?! This is new to us. Love hearing how locals enjoy their trad dishes. Thanks for watching and commenting on this one, we can’t wait to get back to the UK soon. Cheers, Sheena
You guys are all the way from New Zealand and showing me where to eat in my home of London, how crazy is that?! 😂 I didn't even know where to go for these delectables! Thank you! Great video and good vibes, Ur both great! ☺️☺️☺️
Awwww thanks for your kind words Sarah J! Oh gosh London is so huge- and you've got so much choice! So happy you got to eat and travel with us to some new places in this video- hope we did your city justice with this series- although we know we barely scratched the surface! Thanks for watching and commenting 😘 Cheers, Sheena
😆😝😍 awww thanks Lulu Cattywampus! We totally have to get back to Malaysia even if it is only to eat!!!! We love it there. Thanks for watching this one mate, hope you enjoyed it! Cheers, Sheena
Please come to Yorkshire in the North of England. We have so many great pubs and restaurants, tonnes of traditional real ales and ciders (Pure North cider near Huddersfield is amazing) and of course we are the home of the Yorkshire pudding and the rhubarb triangle 😁
😍😍😍😍 we are so desperate to get to the North Emily! And when we do Yorkshire will definitely be a stop- love the sound of everything you listed- that rhubarb triangle sounds well worth eating 🤤 Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoyed this video and like what we have coming up! Cheers, Sheena
The parsley liquor is a left over from when the pies had eel or oysters in them (parsley is a traditional fish sauce in the UK). The pie filling changed to minced meat but the sauce stayed parsley. In Victorian times, fried fish used to be a northern English thing and fried potatoes was a London thing and nobody really knows how or when they came together? You'll struggle to find a Monte Cristo or a Reubens sandwich in London and as beautiful as those are, sometimes bread, butter, bacon and HP sauce is all you need? Maybe add some mushrooms too?
Hi Phil B, some great info there- thanks so much! We’d love to spend more time in the UK- especially outside of London. We have friends and family there so it was just a fleeting trip to visit them and we thought we’d make a few videos too. We’d love to do a massive UK food series one day. Hope you enjoyed this video, thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
Well done 🏴🔥 next pie n mash you eat-chili vinegar, salt n pepper, only fork n spoon ❤️ Manze’s is lovely; don’t forget to include Maureen’s 🔥🔥🔥⚓️
Hi Craig Wilkins, thanks so much for watching and commenting! Heaps of people have mentioned the vinegar and now we’re desperate to get back so we can taste what we missed out on 😆 hope you enjoyed this video and like what we have coming up on the channel. Cheers, Sheena
Thank you so much for your open and honest evaluation. So positive. I didn't know anything about these food establishments but I live in Manchester, but I do now. :-)
Thank you so much for watching Peter and for your kind words! We’d love to get up to Manchester one day 😄 a whole tour of the UK would be a dream come true. Thanks for your lovely message and we hope you enjoy the rest of the content on our channel! Cheers, Sheena
Just came across ur video and u guy's r gr8 u actually taste the food not pick at it but im no longer on my diet now after watching this of 2 make a fryup thanks 4 sharing 👍👍👍💝
🤤🤤🤤🤤 I’m desperate for a fry up for breakfast now Lesley! Thanks for watching and for your lovely message. We’re so happy you enjoyed this video. Our stay in England was much too short this visit. Looking forward to returning soon! Cheers, Sheena
Thanks for explaining the history of that cabby house. So interesting! I can see how hungry Thomas was with the speed with which he ate his fry-up😄 Seeing all the vintage settings in this vid just made me shiver with delight! I love things like that!
Us too A O! Anywhere with a bit of history and a sense of nostalgia we are dead keen on. So pleased you enjoyed seeing these spots. Hahahaha Thomas hoovered up that English brekkie! Hope you enjoyed this one- thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
That's what impressed me too, and I burst out laughing at the cabbies hiding out in the pub!....Pub food over here is quite often home cooked and the best..
Hi Nancy he, thanks for watching and for your kind words. So happy that you are getting value from our content! Hope you like what we have coming up on the channel. Cheers, Sheena
So glad you enjoyed it mate, thanks for watching! Hope we can get back one day soon- loads more to eat! Want to hunt down more of those trad cafes. 😍 Cheers, Sheena
Thanks mate. We’re glad you enjoyed it. We loved filming this one and the other videos we filmed while in London. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Thomas 😀
Hi mate, thanks for watching this one! London is such a fascinating city. Hope you enjoy our new series- New Zealand 😍 Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
Evidently sconces Differ throughout Celtic people. In Ireland scones I like soda bread not fluffy but dense. That’s the type of scones I prefer. Thanks for motivating me to learn the difference between scones
First video I've watched of yours and I love you guys!!🥰 I absolutely love the fact you're trying traditional English dishes! I'm from the UK and I've never ever had jellied eels before, I'll have to try them one day😊 and that fry up looked so good! Will be suscribing👍🏻💕
Hi Kyra96, thanks so much for watching and for your lovely message 😄 Oh gosh we are so desperate to return and do a massive road trip around England. Hope we can make it happen soon! Those jellied eels were great to try- loved that pie and mash spot. Hope you like the rest of the content on our channel mate 😄 Cheers, Sheena
So glad you enjoyed it mate and awesome to hear you think the image is great! We use a GH 5 and a Leica 12-60mm lens 😄 Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I reckon you need to whip up a batch of scone for afternoon tea and put it to the test! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one mate. Wouldn’t mind a scone and a cuppa myself right about now! Cheers, Sheena
You are in very expensive area ..in London. You must go inside the country...not only just hanging around London. You will find amazing traditional dishes in country side. Enjoy it !!!
Would love to explore more of England and film! We were limited to London on this trip as we were visiting friends and family 😄 thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena
It’s so great right?! 😍 So much still for us to explore but have to save some $$$ before we visit again 😆 Thanks for watching and commenting on this one mate. Cheers, Sheena
I feel that a lot of people can diss British food but I never felt that way. I for one can appreciate British food. It's one kind of food I've become so accustomed to and can't live without even though I've been brought up on an Asian diet. I'd honestly choose British food over French or even Italian if I had to make an ultimate choice. Though it might not be as 'varied' as some other cuisines, there are seriously so many fine points and gems in British cuisine.
Totally agree A O! British food gets such an undeserved bad rap! Coming from NZ this type of food is comfort food to us- it's what we default to if we're not eating other cuisines.
I'm a Geordie and I would love someone to come up here and show some of our working class food, (pan haggerty is a favourite). You're so right about the meal being more than just the food. It could be the best you've ever tasted but if you don't feel comfortable, it's ruined. Oh and you pronounced Scone properly . lol
Hi Martin Tabony, thanks for watching this video and for taking the time to comment. We would love to get up your way and explore the food culture! Hope we can make it happen soon. What is pan haggerty?! Sounds intriguing- I will look it up! Hahah the eternal scone pronunciation debate 😆 hope you enjoy the rest of the content on our channel. Have a great weekend Martin. Cheers, Sheena
That jellied eels look so delicious. And I heard the natural jelly that comes out of eels is an excellent source of joint and skin-friendly collagen. I would definitely try it. Thakns for sharing this video =)
Hi Qrious Gourmet, thanks so much for watching and commenting! I bet it's really good for you- they were so tasty. Hope they don't disappear off menus- they're such a heritage dish! Hope you enjoy the rest of our London series. Cheers, Sheena
I find it interesting that in all your videos you pile all the food together on a fork instead of eating each item individually. You do that for whatever kind of food you two are eating. I was wondering how many other people eat food that way or if it is strictly a New Zealand custom.
Thanks for watching. That’s how to get the ultimate taste. Cooks and chefs think out a plate of food and put on it things that go perfectly together. A plate of food should have harmony across its elements. Some things more sweet, some more salty, something with more acidity (be it on a plate with different elements or within a single dish when cooking). We love playing with the combos and finding our perfect mouthful. When you nail your preferred combo it’s the ultimate food experience. It’s not just a New Zealand thing 😀 Hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Thomas 😀
There's a fantastic traditional Scottish restaurant chain you will find all over London. It dates back to 1974 (!!). It proved to be so popular in London that it grew and grew and nowadays you'll find it in literally every town and village in Great Britain. It's called, I believe, "The McDonalds". Beware, though: even though it might seem like it has royal approval, "Burger King" is really just an American pretender. I know, shocking. So, you know, don't be fooled by any non-traditional American version of the Scottish classic, the McBig (?). Some of this information might be out of date. I only just got out of Broadmoor after a 68 year stretch. I'm afraid I was a little bit mad for a while there, but I'm alright now :)
I love your videos, and the enthusiasm of both of you. My fav out of that lot was the tea and scones, and then the full English breakfast, but without the pig's blood sausage. That to me, was just downright nasty, along with the pie and the green gravy and cold jellied eels, YUK! and then woman's hands, without food grade gloves, all over your bacon sandwich [shudder]. Yeap, the term "British cuisine" is well and truly an oxymoron :). I'll have more videos please!!
Thanks for watching and commenting David Au and for your kind words! Oh gosh those tea and scones were perfect after a day of traipsing around the city! Hahah the pie n mash was comfort food- it doesn’t look great but there was something beautifully nostalgic about it. Hope you enjoy what we have coming up on the channel! Cheers, Sheena
@Vincent Bate don't worry too much Vincent. We have the best food, and world leading food handling standards down this end of the globe, in Australia and New Zealand. In fact, our food standards organisation covers both countries, and it does a great job, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
@@ChasingaPlate I faked a sickness on business travel on what was to be a 2 hour layover LHR to JFK, then checked into my hotel paid by my company, and mysteriously got better 6 days later. Best 6 days ever and got paid for it! I tried all traditional foods (while sick - hahahaha). It was a modern adult version of our childhood - holding a thermometer up to a lamp, but logistically sound and planned out. :) Subscribing now. Will let my friends know.
Great video! I live just outside London but never been a fan of the tradition pie n mash with liquor. Feel like most people know it’s rubbish but like it cos of its history😂. I refuse to try jellies eels
Hi Taylor, so happy you enjoyed this one! Thanks for watching 😍 Hahaha, I get what you mean- we were stoked we got to try it and we did love it- the history is no doubt a part of its appeal. Hope you have a great bank holiday ahead! Cheers, Sheena
You forgot to put the vinegar in the pie and we never used to eat it with a fork, always a spoon. Maybe times have changed in the last 35 years. "these black man cab boxes" lol you mean black cab drivers tea huts mate, you need a hackney medallion or the famous green badge to get inside. Mystical things happen in there, normally revolving around the page 3 bird of the time. Again, 30 odd years ago.
😂 got tongue tied in that bit. I reckon the lack of vinegar and the use of a fork is a good enough reason to get back for more pies. Hope we can return soon. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Thomas
Next time guys look for the afternoon tea at lords in the long room which is a experience that I would recommend as it’s not too expensive and it’s also around the corner from abbey road and the zebra crossing here is the link: www.lords.org/lords/lord-s-experience/afternoon-tea also one of NZ’s best exports apart from the blackcaps is Peter Gordon and Pete has a chain of restaurants called Gourmet Burger Kitchen affectionately referred to as GBK and are everywhere in London.
Hi Shamir Patel, thanks so much for watching and for those awesome tips! Will definitely look into afternoon tea at lords for our next visit 😄 We saw loads of GBK’s around! Knew they had a Kiwi link but didn’t realise they were Peter Gordon’s 😄 hope you enjoyed this series mate! Cheers, Sheena
Oh wow! We’ve never seen it but did know that the cafe has been used in loads of magazine shoots and in film. It’s such a neat place- it’s got a great atmosphere. Thanks for watching and commenting Simon Main- hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Sheena
Loved that meal. I'd say yes to lots of pepper also. We can't wait to return to eat it all again. Thanks for watching this one and we hope you enjoyed it. Cheers, Thomas 😀
Hi stonersid, thanks for watching! A bunch of Londoners have mentioned the vinegar and pepper- we're gutted we didn't know and can't wait to get back to eat it again with tonnes of vinegar and pepper loaded on top- we love both! Hope you enjoy the rest of our London videos. Cheers, Sheena
The history behind the Cabmen huts is another interesting tidbit! Nice to share more of these London classics. Also good to see them have heritage status
I always had a full English breakfast when I was in England. So good! 😋 Is clotted cream the same as butter? I don’t think it is but if someone knows and could tell me I would appreciate it!!
😍😍😍😍 it's comfort food right?! The way to start the day right hahaha. Thanks for watching and commenting- hope you enjoyed this video! Clotted cream is different to butter- it's full cream milk that's heated indirectly (like in a water bath) and then left to cool slowly. The cream content then rises to the top and forms the clots. Hope that helps mate! Cheers, Sheena
Melissa Hayden clotted cream is very different to butter. It is essentially really thick cream with a crust on the top. It’s a good job they weren’t anywhere near Cornwall when they ate those scones - comparing it to butter and putting the cream on the bottom is enough to get you ran out of the county! 🤣 always jam on the bottom and dollops with clotted cream on top!
Shelly Goodwin Thanks so much for telling me about the differences between clotted cream and butter. I knew they were different but didn’t know why. I’d love to try it someday! 😋
Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena Sheena thanks so much for reading the comments and explaining about the difference between butter and clotted cream. I’ve never had it but hope to have some someday. Hopefully in England!
Can’t wait to get back to have it again. Need to start planning another visit to London. Thanks for watching this one and we hope you enjoyed it. Cheers, Thomas 😀
another great vid guys ....my Italian mom replaced that ell dish with jellied pork feet and tail in a vinegar based jelly ....amazing ..i am in my 60's now and your vid brings back old memories
Thanks so much tsocanuck! So happy you enjoyed it and that the video brought back some good memories 😍 the jellied pork feet and tails sounds so interesting- would love to try it one day. We love pork feet so would be right into it I reckon! Hope you like what we have coming up on the channel tsocanuck. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena
Just stumbled across your British food series today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciated how descriptive you both were when describing the various flavours and textures of the foods you tried as it really helps the viewer get an idea of what you're eating. Just subbed and look forward to checking out some of the other countries you've visited on your channel. Safe travels!
Hi Hrundi V Bakshi, thanks so much for your lovely words and we’re so glad you enjoyed this series! We had a blast filming it and can’t wait to get back soon. Hope you like what we have coming up on the channel mate. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment 😄 Cheers, Sheena
😍😍😍😍 thanks so much Kakibot! So happy you enjoyed it mate. We had such a blast filming- we love London so much. Thanks for watching and commenting- hope you've been well! Cheers, Sheena
There’s nothing like some scones and a cup of tea! So English 😍 oh gosh that meat pie and mash was comfort food! Thanks for watching and commenting dswetz1! Big love back- hope you’re having a lovely weekend 😘 Cheers, Sheena
1892?? Wow - love places like these with lots of history. So true, Thomas , love the tiles and booths inside. Glad it is still going strong all these years later
Incredible right guys?! We’re suckers for places with history too- can’t help but we drawn to them. Thanks for watching and commenting- hope you enjoy this one! Cheers, Sheena
It’s certainly a city that is hard on the ole back pocket 😝 whereabouts do you live in the UK? Thanks for watching and commenting Catherine. Hope you enjoy this series! Cheers, Sheena
😍😄😍😄 so happy to hear that Joel Nelson! Thanks for watching and commenting 😄 We love London and the food culture is fascinating- can’t wait to get back to the UK soon for more eating and filming! Cheers, Sheena
Angela McCabe can’t imagine they’re everyone’s cup of tea 😄 Where do you go for your pie n mash? Thanks for watching and commenting, keep safe and well! Cheers, Sheena
There not Lol, also try chilli vinegar over it is the best from my opinion, My local that I always go to is Raymonds Pie & Mash in Eltham, South East London. Stay safe guys and lovin your video's
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you mean how I barely talked and just kept scoffing the thing?! I love scones 😄😝 thanks for watching and commenting Alina Petrea- hope you enjoyed this one mate!! Cheers, Sheena
I totally get where you’re coming from Greg! We were amazed we could find it and able to try it. Thanks for watching and commenting mate. Cheers, Sheena
😄😄😄😄 we’re so glad you are enjoying them Charlene, thanks so much for your support! Hope you like what we have coming up on the channel. Cheers, Sheena
Sorry jelled eels doesn’t go with pie & mash should be stewed eels ( served hot use a fork. & spoon ) jelled ells on there own or even better with a go pint of real ale ( bitter is best in my opinion)pick The eels up with your finger & thumb holding it by the bone you found in the middle loads of vinegar & white pepper on both dishes but well done for trying and putting it on here
Love the atmosphere shots. My favorite spot for today was the cream tea place. I adore vintage kitchen and table wares! The cabbie stand was unique. Nice to know there are still some surviving and functioning. The first time I ever had a fried tomato was in London, back in the '70s! To this day, I can't eat a fried egg without an accompanying fried tomato...it's just a match made in heaven.
You would have loved that shop then MsKestrela! I am a huge fan too but I didn't spend too much time looking as I knew I wouldn't be able to take anything home with me 😝 Too agonising otherwise! So neat that you have that food memory of the fried tomato- I reckon a fry up is incomplete without them- the acidity and sweetness cuts through the bacon and sausage perfectly. And then the fried egg with the oozy yolk just ties it all together 😝😋 Thanks for watching and commenting MsKestrela, hope you're having a lovely weekend! Cheers, Sheena
Very true Charlie. The dishes are an important part of England’s food culture. We loved getting it experience these dishes. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena
Hi guys! Wow that full English breakfast looks fantastic 😍🤤 I’ve never had black pudding before but that would be interesting. I love the little green cafe that caters for the cab drivers, so cool. Great video as always, thank you. Stay safe
Hi mate! You must give black pudding a try if you get a chance- it’s great! Those cabmen’s shelters are so awesome- such a neat part of the city’s history! So glad you enjoyed this one FitAngie- thanks for watching and commenting 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Thanks for watching and for your kind words John Johnson. We ate so well when filming this series 😄 We’d love to film more in the UK so hope we can return soon. Keep safe and healthy. Cheers, Sheena
😍😍😍😍 we love hearing this Petro Petrakis! Thanks for travelling and eating with us via these videos! Thanks for watching and commenting- hope you enjoyed this series. Cheers, Sheena
😄😄😄😍😍😍 thanks so much samantha ho! That’s so kind of you to say! This was such a fun day to film- we ate so well! Thanks for watching and commenting 🤗 Cheers, Sheena
There’s a debate in UK, you eat your cream tea one of two ways; the Devon way (cream on first, jam on second) or the Cornish way (jam on first, cream on second)......obvs the Cornish way is best!
😄😄😄 where there is scones, jam and cream there is the debate about which goes first! It's so strange how you always do it one way and never the other. I don't think I've ever eaten a scone the Cornish way. We definitely need to get to both Devon and Cornwall on our next visit and eat cream teas in both places- and when in Cornwall- we will definitely eat them the Cornish way 😆😝 Thanks for watching and commenting Loopylu005, hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Sheena
Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena you definitely need to go to Cornwall, many people compare it to being the Australia of the UK, with many Australian life guards patrolling their beaches. There are so many different beautiful landscapes. Enjoy your next adventure x
Butty is more a northern term which is fine..but in London its just a bacon sandwich. .or sarnie in slang terms. .also there is a never ending debate here as to whether have brown or red (ketchup ) sauce
😄😄😄😄 good to know! In NZ it’s both a butty and bacon sarnie. Ahhh yes, the never ending debate, we change our minds about red or brown like we change our undies 🤣
It's really weird I can eat jellied eel, inards, blood sausage, tons of not the norm eats, but beans can't stand them..... Yuck!!!! Really love this vlog. You picked some good ones to try. Except the beans🤢🤢🤢
🤣🤣🤣🤣 isn’t it funny how it’s often the simplest things were averse to? So happy you enjoyed this one mate! It was the best day of eating! Hope you like the next series we have coming up 😄 Cheers, Sheena
🤣🤣🤣🤣 well seeing as this is our full time job thought it best to keep on top of it. But in all seriousness we feel if people are going to take the time to write to us it’s only decent that they should get a reply 😄 We’ll keep doing it for as long as we are able! Thanks for watching and commenting Casper Me and hope you enjoyed the video mate. Cheers, Sheena
Still haven’t tried a Full English yet. You definitely started it off the right way with popping that egg open! We would definitely enjoy the blood pudding since we love all types blood sausage
😍😍😍😍😍 so happy to hear it Tom Sawyer! Thanks so much for watching this series- it was such a fun one to film and the food was so unique- especially those jellied eels!! Hope you like what we have coming up mate! Cheers, Sheena
Hi Ser Kon 😄 thanks so much for your kind words mate! So happy you are enjoying our content. Hope you like what we have coming up on the channel! Cheers, Sheena
Owh no!! Is this the last vid from the 3-part London series?? I'm gonna miss your London excursions guys. Drooling over the pie, the sandwich with interesting back history & the full english bfast shebang and last but not least the fluffy scones with clotted cream & raspberry jam! Goshhhh I am salivating..😋😋 but the jellied eel is very interesting, I wonder how it really tastes like. Tq for another interesting vid Thomas & Sheena, take care & cheers!💜💙
Hi Ar Em! It was an awesome day of eating alright 🤤 the eel just takes like a soft textured white fish- very palatable 😄 so happy you loved this series mate! Hope you like what we have coming up on the channel! Cheers, Sheena 💕
At last! Someone who has advertised proper English food.
I salute you both!
It was a joy to film this one! Would love to return one day soon and do a big food tour around England 😍 Thanks for watching and commenting Chris. Cheers, Sheena
english food is disgusting!!!
You hit the nail on the head with _full English_ : it's the many combos of food you can get in a mouthful that makes it such fun to eat.
I fancy one now Twirlyhead! 🤤 thanks for watching this video, hope you enjoyed it! Cheers, Sheena
Brown sauce and beans are a match made in heaven Thomas 😁
🤤🤤🤤 never a truer word spoken Susan! Thanks for watching and commenting 😄 Thomas
Or a dollop of Branston pickle …
AKA a Greasy Spoon
Thankyou for showing good British food! It is underated world wide!
Should have got it from wetherspoons with a pint of lager then it would have been a proper full English
"Rustic" slop 😄
Excellent series, guys. London was a home run...despite the choripan!
I'm English and I've never tried jellied eels, in fact most English people haven't. It's a regional (East London) thing.
@Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena
Yes, that first pub was quite cool - perfect old world meets new scenario; 150 years old with beautiful wooden Victorian interior but now serving craft beers and modern takes on traditional food. Black pudding sticks. Who knew?
Fried potatoes do not belong on a full English!
YUMMO. That Bacon Buttie needed a big mug of strong sweet tea and you got yourself the simplest most satisfying meal. 😍
No mate..hash brown is American..bubble and squeak is English
God no hash browns!
Hash browns on a full English! Not on you're Nelly! Bubble all day long!
Not traditional but I need either hash browns/ chips on mine, Call me crazy just my preference guys!
You guys are all the way from New Zealand and showing me where to eat in my home of London, how crazy is that?! 😂 I didn't even know where to go for these delectables! Thank you! Great video and good vibes, Ur both great! ☺️☺️☺️
Lol I felt the same way when they did a whole series of my country, Malaysia! There were so many yummy places I've never even heard of😸
Awwww thanks for your kind words Sarah J!
Thanks for showing that we actually have nice food 👍🇬🇧
English food gets such a bad rap! We love it, it was so much fun filming this series. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena
I am glad you show what they people eat. Don't forget the fish and chips
A classic! Hope you enjoy our London series Raxa, thanks for watching this one!
@@ChasingaPlate the rhubarb triangle is the area where rhubarb is grown not for eating lol
Love both Rhubarb Triangle & Yorkshire Pudding!!
Fair play to you guy's, no one should visit London without trying pie & mash.
😄😄😄 we loved that pie shop! Wish we’d had time to visit a few more. Next time for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena
Well done 🏴🔥 next pie n mash you eat-chili vinegar, salt n pepper, only fork n spoon ❤️
Manze’s is lovely; don’t forget to include Maureen’s 🔥🔥🔥⚓️
Yum! Can’t wait to return and have more when possible. Thanks very much for watching this video. Cheers, Thomas 😀
You need vinegar that really gets the taste going 👍
Hi Craig Wilkins, thanks so much for watching and commenting! Heaps of people have mentioned the vinegar and now we’re desperate to get back so we can taste what we missed out on 😆 hope you enjoyed this video and like what we have coming up on the channel. Cheers, Sheena
Oh yes Thomas baked beans and brown sauce, deffo a marriage made in heaven 🤗
I wouldn’t mind a full English for breakfast tomorrow! 🤤 It’s such a treat. Thanks for watching Susan!
That's what impressed me too, and I burst out laughing at the cabbies hiding out in the pub!....Pub food over here is quite often home cooked and the best..
the pie and mash shop is literally so close to where i live ahahah!! its the best in the uk
Lucky!! Do you go there often? We loved the meal and the staff were so lovely. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Thomas 😀
Great video’s. Very informative. I like how you put up the prices and in American dollars too.
Hi Nancy he, thanks for watching and for your kind words. So happy that you are getting value from our content! Hope you like what we have coming up on the channel. Cheers, Sheena
Nice one, made me very Hungry. Come back soon.
So glad you enjoyed it mate, thanks for watching! Hope we can get back one day soon- loads more to eat! Want to hunt down more of those trad cafes. 😍 Cheers, Sheena
This is a great vid
Thanks mate. We’re glad you enjoyed it. We loved filming this one and the other videos we filmed while in London. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Thomas 😀
Hello Guy's....miss you all. Wow London....my dreams COUNTRY'S.
That’s interesting Cob! I didn’t know that! We’d love to visit Ireland one day- neither of us have been before. Filming there would be awesome.
Really interesting guys! Thanks for the video. Just wondering, what camera and lens did you use? Super sharp!
So glad you enjoyed it mate and awesome to hear you think the image is great! We use a GH 5 and a Leica 12-60mm lens 😄 Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
OMG! Lightbulb moment! I can put the cream on the scone first...... and it doesn't end up wrapped round my face and nose!
A new day begins.....
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I reckon you need to whip up a batch of scone for afternoon tea and put it to the test! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one mate. Wouldn’t mind a scone and a cuppa myself right about now! Cheers, Sheena
Full English breakfast! Probably the best breakfast in the world 🌎
It’s such a treat! One of our favourites for sure! 😍
Yes and I would love to try and make it for sure! 😊
Luv luv luv London so much … I miss traveling too cheers 🍻
It’s so great right?! 😍 So much still for us to explore but have to save some $$$ before we visit again 😆 Thanks for watching and commenting on this one mate. Cheers, Sheena
GREAT VID GUYS,HI THOMAS UN SHEENA,LUV FROM LONDON UK
You’re so lucky you have all this food on your doorstep mate! Thanks for watching and commenting- so happy you enjoyed it 😄 Cheers, Sheena
@@ChasingaPlate Agreed :) 'Comfort food' is definitely the word.
It's pan haggie in Yorkshire and I totally agree peas pudding and smoked ham hock as well!!!
Cornish way is Jam then clotted cream, Devon way is clotted cream then jam.
The age old debate. I love it so much I’d just take it any way it comes 😂😋 thanks for watching. Cheers, Thomas
The cornish are gross. Trying to put clotted cream on jam makes you look like an neandethal
The Regency, excellent choice
We loved it 😄 what a place! Thanks for watching Lester! Cheers, Sheena
Haha love it 😂😂😂 thanks very much for watching this one and for a bit of humor. Very funny 😀😂 Cheers, Thomas
Someone probably said it already but you should have put vinegar on the pie and mash as well.
😄😄😄😄 something we will definitely be doing next time James Chambers! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Sheena
Love the pie, mash and liquor but jellied eels, yuk!
😂 they’re not for everyone! Thanks for watching and commenting Anna, hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Sheena
Damn I love you guys. Cooking all of this in Portland, OR. Grew up in Washington State. I miss London. Go Brits!
Thanks for the kind words mate. That is so cool that you’re cooking these foods. Did you use to live in London? Thanks for watching. Cheers, Thomas 😀
😂😂😂😂 oh my goodness. You can cram a lot of food into 6 days bet you did bloody well!! Thanks for subscribing mate. Merry Christmas! Cheers, Sheena
@@ChasingaPlate You both need to do a couples tour with Mark Wiens and his Wife. That would be freaking brilliant.
So much history in London wherever you go... it was awesome seeing all these places you took us to.
Thanks so much guys! So happy you enjoyed travelling and eating with us on this series! 😍 Cheers, Sheena
That cafe where you had the full english was used in the film Layer Cake.....
Oh wow! We’ve never seen it but did know that the cafe has been used in loads of magazine shoots and in film. It’s such a neat place- it’s got a great atmosphere. Thanks for watching and commenting Simon Main- hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Sheena
Where morty beats that guy up then pours tea on him? I thought I recognised it as they walked in.
Manzies has got less tight with the quantity of mash. You need to bung loads of pepper and chilli vinegar on the pie.
Loved that meal. I'd say yes to lots of pepper also. We can't wait to return to eat it all again. Thanks for watching this one and we hope you enjoyed it. Cheers, Thomas 😀
A meal for the workers. Cheap and cheerful. Don't knock it.
Classic and utterly delicious! Thanks for watching Charlie. Cheers, Sheena
i was born within a mile of this place, and you pour vinegar and pepper into the liquor for ultimate taste )
So great they’re preserved now! 🙌
We hope you do too Melissa! There really is nothing like it for a scone! 😍
Should have loaded the pie and mash with vinegar, that's the way to eat it... YUM!
Can’t wait to get back to have it again. Need to start planning another visit to London. Thanks for watching this one and we hope you enjoyed it. Cheers, Thomas 😀
Agree, sometimes the place just gives you such a great experience that just being there is a huge pleasure
👊 food is so much more than what’s physically on the plate right?! 😍
Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena oh yes indeed
I am also hungry to see this food
I want that big breakfast right now! 😍 Thanks for watching mate, hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena
Ooh, you should have done a Brick Lane salt beef bagel too.
It was on our list but we ran out of time 😭 we’ll be there next time for sure! 🤗
another great vid guys ....my Italian mom replaced that ell dish with jellied pork feet and tail in a vinegar based jelly ....amazing ..i am in my 60's now and your vid brings back old memories

Oooo good to know! Thanks for that tip 😄 thanks so much for your kind words Angela, have a great week mate. Cheers, Sheena

2:15 Cold, jellied eel. I would not have considered that such a thing existed. Not a bad thing, but surprising that it’s a dish.

& spoon ) jelled ells on there own or even better with a go pint of real ale ( bitter is best in my opinion)pick The eels up with your finger & thumb holding it by the bone you found in the middle loads of vinegar & white pepper on both dishes but well done for trying and putting it on here
Will have to give stewed eels a go next time we’re in town for sure! Thanks for the tips and thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena
Yummy scones
They were delicious! Such a classic afternoon tea! Thanks for watching this one! Cheers, Sheena
being in finland now i miss prober good fry up
What do the Finnish eat for breakfast usually?
You forgot to have a pot noodle 😉 hehe
Haha thanks for watching mate. So much good food. Cheers, Thomas 😀
The brown sauce in a bacon sandwich is usually HP sauce; different taste from any other sauce !
I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t have been real HP sauce. Sure didn’t taste like it. Love that cafe. Thanks for watching. Thomas
No such thing as real H.P Sauce anymore ... used to be made in Birmingham ... now somewhere in Holland by Heinz...
And now made in Poland …
What tourist have to remember is that these food dishes were Eaton by the working class people who not afford good cuts of meat.

Nothing like a bacon butty 😍 such a great snack! Thanks for watching this one mate- hope you enjoyed it 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Keeping it old school here! Love the tiled design outside of Regency.
Old school rocks!! It was a photographers dream 😍
As an FYI to people looking to crap on British food, 99% of bits wouldn't go near that eel pie and mash 😂 it's very much old fashioned
😂😂😂 love that you can still find it on the menu at Manzie’s. A piece of history on a plate. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena

Jellied eels... I never tried that one. It’s gonna be hard to get Lieles to try those but now that I’ve seen in your video, we have to try it
😂😂😂😂 do it!!
wow she did her home work
Thanks for watching and commenting mate! Wouldn’t mind a full English right about now. Hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers, Sheena
Sounds wonderful! Thanks Loopylu005!!
Butty is more a northern term which is fine..but in London its just a bacon sandwich. .or sarnie in slang terms. .also there is a never ending debate here as to whether have brown or red (ketchup ) sauce
It's usually brown for most things but the sweetness of the red perfectly compliments the saltiness of bacon.
😄😄😄😄 good to know! In NZ it’s both a butty and bacon sarnie. Ahhh yes, the never ending debate, we change our minds about red or brown like we change our undies 🤣
@@ChasingaPlate I'm a red man myself 😀
@@wullaballoo2642 red mostly but sometimes both...up and under!
@@ChasingaPlate Can't wait for the new series!!!! So after Istanbul what's next?????

This is literally the only channel I've ever seen that replies to every comment.
You guys need to get a job!🤣👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣 well seeing as this is our full time job thought it best to keep on top of it. But in all seriousness we feel if people are going to take the time to write to us it’s only decent that they should get a reply 😄 We’ll keep doing it for as long as we are able! Thanks for watching and commenting Casper Me and hope you enjoyed the video mate. Cheers, Sheena
Still haven’t tried a Full English yet. You definitely started it off the right way with popping that egg open! We would definitely enjoy the blood pudding since we love all types blood sausage
