this video might be a year old, but it was exactly what i needed to fix my tailgate lock. I'm not even sure when it happened, but i went to insert the key, and it was super flimsy and jiggly, and was not engaging the lever.. i quickly removed the cover and exactly as you mentioned, that bolt was loose.. so i tightened it up and works just like it always did. thanks!
A hole bunch of people have already said my suggestion of adding lock tite. This is why I like older vehicles with mechanical problems. So much easier to diagnose and repair
Thanks for the info! Much appreciated. I will keep an eye on my tailgate lock (so far so good) and if there are any issues will reference your vid again.
2023=Liked, this video is a blessing.. Thank you uploader.. i just tighten a2014 nissan pup 4x4 nice very well maintained top dollar premo.. but i fix loose tailgate lock mechanism qas losse had slip off the lock device alakazam i watch your vid. [For short video] and just made 20smackers fix my best friend tailgate to lock everything inside truck bed is worth small fortune. Robot surveyer equipment needs locked. Thanks you sir for the video made my life easy..
This is a neat little video, to the point and could potentially help other people. I don’t own one of these but I’m a subscriber and was curious to see what the fault and subsequent fix was.
@@johnwalker3263 red is just harder to remove. Heat helps, but isn’t necessary on small bolts like this one. A lock washer would also work if enough threads available
At least is was a simple fix. With the rough roads you travel it would probably be good to add some lock tight or a star/lock washer under the bolt head. George.
I wonder if this is what’s wrong with my frontier . But mine is stuck in the locked position . Also my key never worked to lock or unlock it I believe the door is from another frontier because my truck was purchased from the auction ( small crash to the bed with only 30k miles )
Not sure I understand the question... My lock was stuck in the unlocked position and would not lock, though even if it had stuck in the locked position, the canopy's two access doors each have their own different locks/keys so I could still get inside, and could then remove the tailgate panel to access the lock mechanism. But let me know if I've misunderstood what you're asking. :-)

Excellent, glad to hear it worked for you!

Worked great, saved me from getting a mechanic to look at it. thank you.
Oh good! Glad it helped!
Good afternoon from Godley Texas, thanks for sharing. Stay safe and happy travels 😎
I'm glad it was a simple fix.

Could add drop of blue or red thread lock to prevent problem in future.
Blue yes, red not if you ever want to remove it!

So clear, so straight forward. Thank you!! I’ve got the same problem so I’m gonna see if this fixes it.
GREAT VIDEO! It fixed mine and I have passed on your video to other Nissan Frontier owners. THANK YOU! You are da MAN!
Nice, I'm glad to hear it worked for you too!
THANK YOU! GOING TO TRY IT AND SEE IF IT WORKS FOR ME.
IT WORKED! THANK YOU!

Hopefully you added some lubricant to all the moving parts
Crap, I just ordered a new lock for my Titan...now I'm wondering lol
Thank you sir
Loctite on that bolt.
Sooo, if it's locked, and the canopy is on, and also locked???

Locked and loaded.
What happened to his old toper? He seems so quiet about it...
