    My father was killed in 1966 in Nam 3 months after I was born. He never saw me or held me. I love this song, a tribute to Major R. Johnson, Green Beret for life.

    I am a wounded Vietnam vet. Dec. 16 1966 near Chu lai Vietnam. Two of my best friends died that terrible day. I healed up and got thru another 60 years. I always think of them and sometimes at night when I can't sleep, which is quite often, I find myself reliving that day and others over there. And I cry sometimes. AS a REAL combat wounded veteran, I can say I don't care about their politics. This is a lovely song and breaks my heart. Treat our current and past veterans with respect. When myself and my Marine buddies were over there trying to stay alive, most of my high school buddies joined the Nat. Guard or got college deferments and never went. You owe us at least respect. Echo2/4 3rd Mar Div.66-67.

      I was a conscientious objector during Vietnam. I stayed in the U.S. and went through the process. I later became a correctional officer and my best friend in that job had been an artilleryman at Phu Bai. We were great friends. We both accepted one another as being true to our beliefs. No bitterness on the part of either.

      That's the beauty of this great nation. They had a right to earned in blood to protest the loss of our valiant armed forces. In the end, art is subjective and this remains a great reminder to what our fallen heroes truly give. God bless the USA and our military.

      Republicans hate being reminded they're the ones that keep voting in the people sending their kids off to die for profit. The most anti-American, anti-troop thing you can do is vote Republican. Natalie gets this.

      Joshua...do you live in the US? Well, you're not typing in Japanese or German right now because my grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy and my uncle waded through the jungles of Iwo Jima. If you don't like the wars we have to fight and the freedoms we have because of them, then Delta is ready when you are, go live somewhere else.

    This really makes me miss the days when there was good music on TV. How long has it been since a country awards show had a dobro, fiddle, and mandolin on stage? And even though they didn't write it, how long has it been since there has been a song with this much meaning? I don't agree with their views, but seriously, I'm over it. They just need to come back to country music. They're too talented to let it go to waste.

    If you listen carefully about this song, it's about the war and how young the guy was to be in a war and how many ppl get hurt by that..families separated, etc...and what they said is they didnt support the war... which it was just a BIG waste of money... nothing was found, just a lot of good american soldiers died and that is about it... what was accomplished?? The hatred of the whole Eastern World??! Millions of CIVILIAN dead?

    How ironic was it that the Dixie Chicks did this poignant song about a soldier not long after 9/11 that actually seemed patriotic and moving but just a year and a half they decided to shoot their mouths off and country music wanted nothing to do with them anymore.

  • @lottski
    @lottski 15 років тому

    Im not a stupid teenager with Dixie Chicks posters all over my walls. And I'm not American, so maybe I have no right to an opinion. Bottom line.. Ppl "higher" than Natalie have said much worse things! yet.. no one atack those ppl/.. Explain that to me? Pink trashed Bush.. Green Day trashed Bush.. The list goes on.. yet ONLY Natalie Maines got shit!! And it's because she said it in a diff country.. That's truly my beliefs. If so, 1st amendment should read freedom of speech ONLY in America.

  • @lottski
    @lottski 15 років тому

    I never said anything about saddam.. And I Doubt it very highly that Natalie didnt want America to get rid of Saddam.. I think she didnt want America to loose a lot of people in the war.. Bottom line, everyone has a right to their own opinion, no? Guess I am very lucky I come from a country that stays neutural and not many countries have a problem with. It just pissed me off how ppl went all at her when ppl more "important" than her said worse things!! only cause she said it in London!

  • @lottski
    @lottski 15 років тому

    How is that political? all she said was.. she's asheamed the f head is from texas.. Id be to!!! That is the truth.. Just cause he happens to be in politics.. ?? sooo.. She didnt like Angelina Jolie Im sure she would have said that to. You need to get a life.. seriously!! You dont like DCX or what they stand for.. FINE.. evryone is intitled to their own opinion.. So why dont u put ur energy on something u do like?? Their hard core fans will stand by them, no matter what. You wont change that..

  • @lottski
    @lottski 15 років тому

    She said that when she said it.. it was meant like a joke.. Do you not get that!! ppl joke all the time, even though there is some truth behind it.. At least she didnt do like all other music artists out there do.. Realize it would hurt their selling of records and take it back.. Hell no!! Nat stood tall and said, u know what.. I won't take it back.. Again, she simply used her freedom of speech. And there are other famous ppl out there who said worse things! Why u dont go bash them??

    This song and this performance in particular makes me ache for more authenticity in music. Everything today is so disposable. When you get lightning in a bottle, like with this song, it does something that no other art form can.

    *crying* I haven't been affected by war at all, but I love their stand against the invasion of Iraq and also their passion in singing this song.

    Bruce wrote this one, and does a hell of job when he performs it. It’s from his heart. That being said Natalie does a beautiful rendition. Both can bring a grown man to tears who had lost a brother in arms

      Right before the 2003 war in Iraq Natalie Maine's said she was ashamed that G W Bush was from Texas and as a result most country radio pulled the Dixie Chicks off the air. And FWIW country radio and fans are GENERALLY conservative.
