- What do you think? Was Fr. Leon Pereira right to tell a woman to shut up as she was talking during his prayers? Could he have been more charitable in the way he approached the situation?
Dear, that was not "Priest losing his temper". That was Priest being appropriately authoritative.
Agree. "Losing temper" is an exaggeration and not the right term for what happened here. Perhaps "reproach" or "censure" are more descriptive.
To many people feel "entitled" and life revolves around them; they say "I don't care, I should be able to talk." Father did right and the reason that lady was so "offended" by Father is because, most likely, nobody has ever spoken to her in that way. It is a way to have her look in the "mirror." She probably, subconsciously, didn't like to face the fact that she was doing something rude or "wrong" and literally didn't know what to do with herself. She truly needs to learn what HUMILITY means: "Thinking of herself less"

We are human beings so don't judge him pls. Look at yourself, are you holy than others? Pls give respect to the priest. Without them there's no Eucharist, instead pray for them.
There is a time to speak, and a time to be silent.
A time to laugh and a time to cry. I think we saw all four of those when she was told to"shut up."

@@toddmerritt960she was also not a 3 year old so saying, “shut up” shouldn’t be taken as something offensive. The shushing was done by those in the crowd and she didn’t seem to care enough to stop.

Rule of thumb, whenever a priest is praying over a group of people, we should stop talking, period! Total silence out of respect and reverence to God. We are receiving many graces with these blessings and we should not be talking. Simply bow our heads and receive the blessings.
Rule of manners: One should not talk if someone else is. Just rude! It appears Fr. Leon knew her name. Hopefully she'll stop when someone else is talking.🙏🏼

I agree so annoying when people keeping talking when other people are trying to listen.
I'm not catholic, but the way I see it is if I was there I have 2 choices. Either stay and be quiet or leave. Personally, I'd leave because I'm not catholic and don't agree with the religion but I wouldn't show disrespect to the Priest or the people by standing there talking! That was just plain rude!
@@gaildias5913 True! the last time I did that was when I was 10 talking with my cousin and it wasn't during prayer, but during liturgy (what Greek Orthodox call it) and the lady in front corrected my cousin and I and that was settled we knew we were wrong.

Father Perriera is one of nicest Priests i have met, so gentle and kind... He was a Accident Emergency Dr so probably has no time for people openly disrespecting the Mass or Blessings. He's speaking up for those wanting to listen..If he did this in my Mass I would agree..Medjugore is full of pilgrims and tourists the towns often buzzing as is the Church that gives many Masses per day including Adoration Chapels .Its 24/7 nearly there. I am sure he's worked off his feet, give him a break if he appeared direct. In fact i know many Priests who would say that like him.Last week a person shouted at the Priest during Mass that the sound wasn't loud enough he was praying over the host before communion, people get ruder

I think he was perfect in his attitude. Mass is to be respected. If she did not wanted to be there, she could have chose to be elsewhere.

I guess we can all be guilty of talking in Mass, something drops, children crying, but to go on and on is not respectful to GOD! As we go to mass for GOD. It’s not a social meeting no matter what, it’s Mass.✝️💝

Fr Leon is slaying demons daily in Medjugorje through his message and prayers there is none like him what a blessing he is.
I was there the Saturday before and he prayed over everyone that needed prayer individually he was there along time praying getting words of knowledge, healing, consoling, uplifting and given direction..

Well he wasn't as charitable after this blessing. People wanted to talk to him and for him to pray over them and he seemed keen to get away, telling them to leave him alone. On the flip side a lot of people come to Medjugorje all year round so if he stopped to speak to and pray over everyone, he would never get anything else done. I'm not judging this incident, just posting what happened.

Fr Leon is fantastic. Mother Mary says never to judge our priests only to pray for them. Catholics do not show enough reverence. I say that as one myself.

I was there below that woman standing on the brick fence, she had no care that she was interrupting a sacred blessing upon many pilgrims who were politely 🤫 shhhhhh her. She continued yelling, that's when Father had to tell her to keep quiet, she ignored everyone who shhh her, She yelled out once again. We asked father to start again as it felt like an attack by the evil one. I was standing just below her, I couldn't believe how she had no respect for anyone there. 🕊🙏🏻✝️

Fr Leon is a wonderful Holy Priest.
He tolerates so much. He was giving his blessing and people were being rude by continuing to talk. Please don’t attack him for what he said. He does so much for us pilgrims. Blessed Mother protect and bless him.

This incident brings to mind the story of St. Paul in the Bible when he rebukes the servant girl (Acts 16:16-18). It states St Paul got annoyed & rebuked the demonic spirit in her that was disrupting his preaching. I see the same thing here. + God Bless +

I love how that woman repeated what the priest said to her, to try to get the crowd to sympathize with her and turn on the priest:
"Shut up???" she says. Then everyone starts laughing at her and she walks away ashamed. I'm glad her tactic didn't work. I hope she learns something from that.
He used the wrong word but he was right to correct her. Sometimes the wrong word pops out, we are all human even priests

The Priest went straight to the point, she didn't understand the whole congregation going shhhh. He used the right words.
I think there are times when priests need to be stern. We address priests as "Father". Dad sometimes needs to be firm and scold. Jesus Himself could be very angry indeed.
I also think it is not necessary to film and upload absolutely everything that happens. It's like what Fr Leon warned about at the end of the video.
I had 10 years of Catholic education and the sisters, brothers and priest never hesitated to be stern when it was needed. I thank them all.

I recall some weeks ago there was a woman who seems to do a return attenting the masse after years and she was very nervously talkative about anything she had heard in the news. At one point she didn't stop gossiping during the time we wait to receive the eucharist and I asked in myself to our Lord if she can at least have her mouth close during the holy eucharist. At my surprise she suddenly remained silent for the rest of the celebration. I hope she found peace.
Prayers like that always get answered fast!
At Mass if I hear a child or baby getting fussy I ask my guardian angel to ask the angels of the child and parents to help them all be calm and quiet.

If I remember the story correctly, a young man was running away from the seminary and took St. Anthony's books. St. Anthony, not knowing about the runaway, asked his guardian angel to bring his books back to him. The angel dragged the young man, along with the books, back to the seminary and to St Anthony. I don't know if the young man became a priest, but I'm sure that he probably made a good confession.

Fr Leon has to shush people often, especially prior to mass starting at the English mass on Sundays at the John Paul II hall. He also at times has to ask some male attendees to remove their headgear during mass.

I know father Leon. When he has something to say, he says... He is a very courageous priest. I pray for him. And yes we can't come and receive a blessing speaking but in a heart in prayer
There is no manners or dress codes when we going to church this days. I saw someone wearing very short and very provocative dresses and no respect when they are recieved communion. It's really make me feel very sad . We going for prayer not for showing ourselves.
If the people are to show more reverence to the Eucharist, the Church itself should do that too. I would suggest bringing back ad orientem and the altar rail. And it shouldn't be allowed to receive it in hands.

The priest did not loose his temper. He calmly addressed the lady who was being distracted. With that said, he could have asked her to please be quiet but he did nothing wrong here.

Ushers used to escort people who were not exhibiting respectful behavior out of the venue, as well as women who were dressed inappropriately, e. g. short shorts and tube tops. That is very tricky with women's "rights" and can lead to a horrible "Karen" incident.

And thank God for this Priest. And that is not losing his temper, but doing what is right. People these days do not respect the fact that they need to keep quiet and be in the moment. In Church they talk as if they are in a market place. If they went in front of an earthly King they would have to follow a protocol and be silent etc.... they go to these places and all to do with God, and in the Church and there is no reverence or silence, yet we are in the Presence of the King of Kings, Our Lord and Saviour. Please Priests use your authority and please teach people respect to Jesus and all the things of God. When in Prayer and in Gods Presence silence is of the essence. And well done to this Priest for doing what he did.
