Two hints you missed. At the beginning, she tells the reporter her fiancé had seen that evil woman, too. Then when Raymond was creepin' through the backwoods, quiet as a mouse, he missed the tracks too small for Andy to make. It's a great song and I like Reba's song as much as the Vicki Lawrence version. Fine storytelling, indeed!
Ok. Thanks for straightening that up for me. I thought Steven was just mispronouncing Randy's name and then I heard Reba say "Andy", and I got lost from there. Thanks!! So the wife was sleeping with a few guys on the side - at least two, right? Andy and the judge?
It’s a lot easier to pick up the story without all of the talking. Vicki Lawrence (Carol Burnett Show) sang this first. It was written by her husband in 1972. Vicki’s version was played on non-country stations, or considered a cross-over. I’m not sure when Reba’s version came out. You got the gist of the story-little sister found out about sister-in-law cheating, killed her, and hid the body. Probably started the rumor that the wife left town. Then sister goes out to take care of brother’s friend who had participated in the cheating. Brother goes home to get his gun to take care of Andy himself, discovers him already dead, fires a shot in the air to attract attention to get help, and is arrested and hung for a crime he didn’t commit.
This is actually a very well known cover of a song written and sung by Vicki Lawrence. (The actress from the show Mama’s Family) There is actually a video of them singing it as a duet. Check it out!!!
You and your wife need to watch the movie with Reba. It will keep you glued to your seat. The video you just watched are scenes from that movie. And yes Vickie Lawrence did the song justice
Let's Gooo ! This song is fire 🔥 Originally from Vicki Lawrence. Such amazing story telling. Garth Brooks Te thunder rolls is heavy too. Great reaction and Peace out Steven ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
You need to listen to the song by itself and then watch the video. This little movie version is talking over important lyrics. Still cool, but hard to grasp what is going on. Would you do Reba's 'Is There Life Out There'
Never once did I have questions about the meaning of Vickie Lawrence's version. This version is confusing. When Reba did it everyone was familiar with the original.
I attended Vicki Lawrence’s show in my hometown in April. (Got to meet her.) She sang this song as the original artist in addition to her standup comedy. Will always be her song! ❤
Would love for you to react to Reba's song " Does He Love You, like he loves me" ft Linda Davis. Linda was her backup singer for years and the two sound alike. Linda is the mother of Hillary Scott of Lady Annabelle. The video is a real bang and hope to see you on it.
Andy was the one that got Sh*t. Raymond stopped for a drink on the way home and Andy told him your wife is sleeping around and I've been with her. Raymond goes home and gets his gun on his way to Andy's house, he finds his sister there and she's already killed Andy and Raymond's wife. He tells her to "get out of here" and fires off a shot to attract the police that were driving by. The judge didn't want to hear the truth because he'd been sleeping wioth her too so he just said guilty and sentenced him to hang. As much as I absolutely LOVE this video, but it is a little hard if you're listening to the song for the first time. It's more of a supplement for those that already know the song. These music videos that are like mini-movies is how people saw that Reba could act as well as sing and led to her movie roles.
I totally love your reaction. Reba has some great songs but this is an old favorite :) you definitely need another listen or two to take it all the in. The song itself is deep and when you add this video it is deep while painting the listener/viewer a picture.
I have to admit, I was with you Stephen. I was aware of the song but never followed the story line. So I'm as baffled and amazed as you. Crazy song/story line.
Why is it that every reactor always goes for this version before the original one? Vicki Lawrence from “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Mama’s Family” was the original artist to do this song, and, props to Reba, Vicki’s version will always and forever be the best, the definitive one.
Some other good ones to continue the journey Reba and Linda Davis Does he love you ?with the video If you haven't done it,Randy Travis 3 wooden crosses,Carrie Underwood Temporary Home.
@setonhillstudios Please do Carrie Underwood's "Temporary Home"!! As a Christian man, it'll definitely hit you different. Absolutely beautiful song...and underlying message! ❤
This was a #1 smash hit for Vicki Lawrence ("The Carol Burnett Show" & "Mama's Family" - which started as skits on "TCBS" called "The Family") for 2 weeks in 1973. The story is the her brother was convicted and hung for a double murder he didn't commit and he didn't know his baby sister had done it by the lyrics (they hung my brother before I could say the tracks he saw while on his way to Andy's house and back that night were mine). Her brother's wife was cheating with Andy (to tell you truth, I've been with her myself). She admits to the double murder in the last verse (and his cheating wife had never left town that's one body that will never been found you see your little sister don't miss when she aims her gun). For Reba, the song broke her Billboard Hot Country Singles top 10 hit streak. Her previous TWENTY-FOUR singles had done that before this as it only peaked at #12 on that chart.
Ray's sister didn't shoot Ray's cheatin ' wife on Ray's behalf for revenge. No one asks why Ray's cheating wife and Andy were both shot. Andy way little sister's fiancé...... At least that is what I remember about a discussion back in the 70s on the song.
Please check out the original version by Vicki Lawrence so you can hear the lyrics without them being talked over..Reba did a great job with the song and video but the original should always be listened to first so you don't get distracted from the video and the talking.
Raymond's wife was a cheater. She slept with Andy, Raymond's friend and sister's man. Wife also slept with the judge. They hung him before she could confess. Raymond's wife's body was never going to be found
The sister, ie Reba, found out the the sister in law and her fiance were sinning together so sister runs off to pap pap them both, brother shows up and takes the hanging for the sister :) great review!

He then told Ray that Ray's wife wasn't home because she was seeing Seth Amos. Ray got mad and Andy told him to calm down and admitted that he had been with Ray's wife himself. I think because Vickie's was done in the early 70's before there were videos and Reba did the visual for the story.
Also, sometimes they are reacting to a request: when someone pays for a request, the version they select is usually the one reactors watch

when a video talks over the music, it always convolutes the story - best example is One by Metallica
