Hey I’m half Bulgarian half Greek and I also speak fluid English and German. It is kind of impressive that you’re able to do all that stuff by yourself without knowing the place or the language. Most Bulgarian people don’t even know a word in English as well so I’m glad you were able to find someone to communicate with even a bit.

Welcome to Bulgaria. Enjoy your stay in our country. Don`t worry about pickpocketers, they will scare from you when they see you. Sorry for my brocken english. And again you are more than welcome.
Dude, you hit jackpot with 2 things, so glad you didn't miss on them. 1) Giving the side streets a chance, in most cases they have much more to show than the main pedestrian street (btw you just passed by my place while walking on these side streets :) ) 2) Getting to know with people, on the Female's Market. Brave thing to go there as a foreigner, not so much cause of risk of pick-pocketing, but cause of the culture shock, that place is a whole different part of Sofia :) I admire your vids, keep the positive vibes and you are always welcome back in BG. p.s. the currency is "leva", c'mon can't be that hard :D
The way how you learnt to change the pronounciation of Sofia won me instantly. A lot of vloggers lived in Sofia for far longer and still call the city wrong. Thank you.
The best protection against a pickpocket is to get one of those bigger rubber bands and wrap it around your wallet a couple times and it will stick to your clothes if someone tries to pull it out and you'll know. Also keep your wallet in your front pocket
I live 300 meters from that market and shop there regularly. Nobody ever tried to pitpocket me, and I live there for about 20 years. It is cheap as fuck there, for a 25 euros I shop for the whole week(for a 1 big person)
Haha .. to be honest i saw you on that day.... I was on the same market and i just saw you passing by ..tall guy making a video (not blending in...)...Its Strange that UA-cam suggested me the video today :D. But yes I totally agree with you!. At this market I go to buy some stuff that came from farmers market and I love buying fresh fruits, herbs or honey from people that grew and make them in their gardens and homes!
@@lonewolf3314 I meant something completely different: This region including Turkey and Greece once was occupied by Roman and later Byzantium Empires which left a lot of artifacts around. That is what I am saying, they need to make better marketing for cultural tourist.
@@matollsen2523 100% true! But bulgarian politicians were always too stupid with just a few exclusions. What the soldiers are won - that the politicians are lost. Unlike italians... If you want to learn somehow bulgarian history (recent country) you must learn the history of entire Balkans last 2000 years. Too many wars and fights between different tribes and nations and their unions. The religion and bulgarian alphabet (cyrillic is the name given from ottomans trying to smash the culture) are just consequence... + several former bulgarian countries in other places still remind the presence of bulgarian tribes - too many specific names of areas, rivers and peoples can be clarly recognized.
I make vlogs from places I like...I am very happy to see people making vlogs from my beautiful country 🇧🇬🔥
"Blending in everywhere I go" haha! Loved the way that you documented this!!
I had a hard time blending in in Africa. Kids were chasing me to touch me. :)

I think that Sofia (my birth city) can offer you so much. The people are really friendly and opened. Enjoy your stay!
Haha Sofia is great. I love living in Bulgaria (I study in Varna, but I'm irish-indian). Like any place you visit, there'll be nasty people but there are also super lovely and helpful people too :^) the pickpocketing thing, well I don't really find it any more dangerous in that aspect than Dublin on a busy day. But my life is probably easier because I have some basic Bulgarian.
I'm from Bulgaria and I'm so happy you think the people are nice! 🇧🇬
I really do want to visit. I love there fashion
I was in Bulgaria last week and it's amazing! Sunny Beach is so beautiful
1) Giving the side streets a chance, in most cases they have much more to show than the main pedestrian street (btw you just passed by my place while walking on these side streets :) )
2) Getting to know with people, on the Female's Market. Brave thing to go there as a foreigner, not so much cause of risk of pick-pocketing, but cause of the culture shock, that place is a whole different part of Sofia :)
I admire your vids, keep the positive vibes and you are always welcome back in BG.
p.s. the currency is "leva", c'mon can't be that hard :D
The way how you learnt to change the pronounciation of Sofia won me instantly. A lot of vloggers lived in Sofia for far longer and still call the city wrong. Thank you.
Ha, another American in Bulgaria! Two words for you: Добре дошъл!

Welcome!
Не е ли само "Welcome!", "You are welcome!" е "Пак заповядай!"?
Само welcome хаха
@@LuchkoDoesStuff.7304 Съжалявам, не сън видял, просто преди welcome ми е излязло you're и съм го цъкнал😅
That is so cool man! I like this kind of vlogs. Come again. I hope you had fun in our great country Bulgaria!
Hey, while you are there don’t forget to taste the tarator. Healthy and delicious
Try shkenbe chorba, Is traditional bulgarian food and is very tasty!
100 subs without vids no turkey always says our foods r from there no bich they r not f off😑
Haha .. to be honest i saw you on that day.... Sometimes iI even find people selling homemade cheese and yogurt, but you have to be there early in the morning! Thank you for this video!
Cyrillic alphabet is very easy., I read it since I was 6. Bit of I joke. By the way, do you know actually it was created in this very country? This country is full of history. It is amazing . But no one know about it. I mean foreigners. Obviously the locals grow up with this. For them to have 2000 years old church next door is normal.
Mat Ollsen not really trying to learn a bit history do not reader Wikipedia where everybody can add stuff.
@@lonewolf3314 I meant something completely different: This region including Turkey and Greece once was occupied by Roman and later Byzantium Empires which left a lot of artifacts around. Tiny Bulgaria has 10 UNESCO heritage sites. Old Nessebar has 13 ancient churches. The oldest one / very good preserved/ is about 1800 years old.
Some culture traditions can be found in another nations and communitys with mostly bulgarian origin (like romanians and latest "macedonians"). And so on.. Many very interesting interactions with another nations, tribes, countries in Europe and Asia...
But today I'm almost ashamed to be bulgarian :(
@@mamatidea Cyrillic идва от кирилица от Кирил и Методий :Д не знам дали идва от Турците като опит за потъпкване на самочувствието ни.
Thank you for your vlog about my country man, appreciate it!
Dude come to Plovdiv. I'm completely serious I'll give you a tour of the city :D
This was my first video what i saw from you. I really don’t know who you are,but this video tell me everything of you. Last summer I spend the summer in Sunny Beach and this summer I want to come back just another city in Tryavna. I love Bulgaria. It is cheap, the people are kind and helpful. Soo. I just want to tell you,you are in the best place now and I like you 😉 Btw. if you are here, you must climb some mountain. It’s amazing 🥰
Have a great fun in Sofia :) I advice you to visit the St Sofia Church :) Also I like that foreigners visit our country because this was rare 10 years ago 😂
Zdr ivane :d
I went on vacation to Bulgaria almost ten years ago. I loved it! I’m planning to move to Bulgaria in 4 or 5 years 😄
@@lixa2323 I don't know if it's a good time to move now. With the recent problems in Europe, Bulgaria has become a hot spot for nationalism. If you do move, you gotta be ready to get used to the daily ethnic tensions in the country.
BG Lion I’m actually a big Bulgarian Nationalist and also real Bulgarian nationalists are anti-Communists. I love that nationalism is a big thing here :)
Congratulations! Great video!! 🇧🇬
I'm glad this video showed up in my recommendation
Thank you so much for putting this out there man! Here in Bulgaria is not a shitty as everyone think it is. Of course there's crime in some areas, bad, rude people and what now, but there are stuff like that everywhere ... The country as far as politics go is f***ed up, but the nature here is amazing. That's is one of the things I really love about Bulgaria! I'm really glad that you seem to enjoy your stay here! And btw, if you decide to come back here, visit other cities as well, because there are cities like Plovdiv, Ruse and Varna, that are even more beautiful (in my opinion of course) than Sofia.
Thank you once again and have great day / night!
Thank you Volen, one good comment. Appreciate it. Поздрави
I've been in Bulgaria 3 times when I was a child (15 years ago) ... I need to come back there, relax and eat some ćaća 🔥😁👍
And what else can I say? Bulgaria has THE BEST, tasty and juicy vegetables in the world.... I have visited for now 25 countries aroud the Europe and Asia and nothing can compare with that tomatoes and cucambers (I'm sorry Greece and Spain 😁) Šopska salad is so simple because it needs nothing additional to feel the taste of summer 🔥❤
Looks a great market....I think when ever you go to a market anywhere in the world, you have to watch for pick pockets ..... just be vigilant and all is ok. Have a great day Luke 😀

Loved your video! Bulgaria is a beautiful country and there is a lot to see. I recommend you to visit the seaside as well as my hometown Troyan. It is located in the centre of the country in the mountains and is famous for pottery, wood crafting and alcoholic beverages. If you decide to come I would love to show you around. Thank you and please come again! :)
That was the nicest vlog i have seen all day. Goo job man!
Thank you for this vlog! It was really interesting...but really thanks that you make our country more famous! ❤️

That place is just the best thing ever, you can find anything. Me and my family go there to shop maybe every week idk.
I'm from Bulgaria and I hope you enjoyed there
Just subscribe! I immensely like your ebullient optimistic amicable personality, and how you depicted Sophia as a hospitable and inexpensive town.
Finally my country Bulgaria is getting more popular 😄😄😄
You're such a nice guy , i'm bulgarian and if you visit Bulgaria again i recommend u to visit country side and seaside but not the popular ones , nicer people and nature , i just discovered your channel and im amazed how u'r not at 2.8 mil subscribers , we'll get there no doubt.

I am glad you are having a good time in Bulgaria. Yes, you still can buy good quality produce for cheap. Anyways, I hope you have a nice stay, and if you have time visit Plovdiv, it's only an hour or so away from Sofia. Plovdiv is currently Cultural Capital of Europe and it has a lot to offer and terms of culture and history. Enjoy!
I love Bulgaria.
People are friendly , food is good, but steaks.
The best steak from us would cost you 64.00 local carency.
Go to Varna and Golden Sands you will enjoy it a lot , At Golden Sands they sell brands clothes , bags,... and they have pool, beach,hotel,...

Bro the sad part is that many of Bulgaria have to work above 3 hours for 5 euros!
Stop lying,fam.
@@SonoftheSteppes Bulgaria is the poorest country in EU thats enough ?
In ruse you work 1 hour in Billa and you get 3 euros
@@kostadin4o Bulgaria is not the poorest. We have more than enough wealth, the only reason we are so poor is because our corrupted government steals the wealth from the people. Are you bulgarian to say bullshit?
Was there at the same time! I liked Sofia a lot, too! I hung out with a Scottish lady who had just bought a nice house in the mountains for 20k euro. The place is crazy cheap. Now, I'm in Istanbul, pretty cheap here, too.
Hey, bro...
Your video was really amazing from the Lady's market, Sofia.
But actually, Lady's market is a much safer place than Hackney market in London. The same we can say for Bulgaria itself, compared to the United Kingdom or USA for example.
Enjoy your days in lovely Sofia, mate...
Stay safe! 🍻🍖
Boban Cholich so true... I don’t know who scared him that much 😂
I speak both Bulgarian and English so it’s dope to see how visitors experience being there when they don’t know the language, love from Canada
