Two thespian stalwarts - in a very tasteful and thought-provoking tale, beautifully crafted with a score that fits like a doeskin glove. Simply Superb.
Beautiful music, the pace of the film, the atmosphere... artistic! I thought it beautiful that he like the man in the forrest did not die alone. Most everyone comes to a reckoning at some point.Very thought provoking. Thank you for sharing.
Not for everyone but I liked it a lot. Beautifully photographed and full of atmosphere. More like an old French art film. Existential musing. Interesting partly for me because at 67 I have reached that part of life when it is time to take stock and divide the important from the unimportant and I seem to have arrived at a similar conclusion to Jimmy.
A little gem of film art. Unfortunately I cannot recommend to anyone I know. But that's my problem. I know wrong type of people then. Patience, observation. And respect for the well riped gentlemen, Langella and Gould, two long time charismatic players, they never mist a beat.

Jimmy was a lonely and pained man who realized his future was soon over, His most profound fear of dying alone plagued him to his final moment. His redemption was that he still was able to love and be loved. His memory will live on. I thought it was good, well done, and actors were great.
Actually it's not a concertina at all; the same family of instruments, but a totally different instrument. We're talking about the Bandonion, invented by Heinrich Band in 1852. The bandonionist is a certain Daniel Binelli, an Argentintian, where this instrument is most played- in the Tango vein. It is an extremely complex little instrument, but it has a very melancholic tone, so befitting to this excellent and deep film.
Sad and interesting tale about fate and beautifully told, brilliant production in all aspects, it is an excellent example of the subtle art of story telling
Very interesting movie with very two interesting old guys. It'll take some time for me to digest this story. Thank you for such a thoughtful, interesting posting. ❤
I saw Frank Langella on Broadway about 35 years ago He was in a play where his character was Dracula. He was riveting, captivating and one of the best performances I have ever seen. What a talent!
Thank you for sharing! Glad you enjoyed the film. Here are some more films that might interest you ua-cam.com/play/PLgu4GvxQ6g2R-oYRiSJiiWR09zr6Kd8xq.html
I think it was closer to 45 years ago. I gave my parents tickets for Christmas in the late 70’s. The stories they told. My mother, about the play, she loved it. My father, about traffic in the City, he hated it. But, conceded Langella was great.
Absolutely Brilliant. Within Life in every Breath upon our personal journey of the tapestry of life. Because seen or unseen as whats essential is invisible to the Eye.
Frank and Elliott had reachd time n their lives to b masters of their craft. Deep. Thought provoking. Enjoyed the complexities and soundtrack. Anothr well written story. Sad the truth tellers r often taken by greedy othrs.
So, the big question is how did Elliott Gould not recognize Frank Langella through the telephoto lens into the apartment and again at the restaurant. They had met at the park bench earlier.
Good film. Sad, but maybe in a way it shows how we look for some kind of reckoning. Maybe it is sad to me because I know this type of reckoning is very unlikely.
And at the same time knowing that he would follow up with the people that he knew that he cared deeply for so making sure they were taken care of at the same time
I think Jimmy's fear was that he wasn't going to get to see his friend where he would recognize him and he didn't want to just tell him who he was without him getting to know a little bit about him to know what came out of his life he truly loved his friendship and he wanted him to be there in his last moments
The last time my father and I spoke ! He turned over his wallet to me and said, "I don't want to die alone" My father survived Omaha Beach. Gotta think on this film some more RJG "
1:11:45 When one truly knows💕…Yeshua/Jesus they are never alone and without a friend♥️, thus the beautiful hymn’’ What a friend we have in Jesus’’♥️♥️♥️
If you like 60s/70s espionage, intrigue, political thrillers and that type of thing, you will enjoy this, I thought it was excellent, don't expect Hollywood type adventure, this is not for you, this is a grounded thinking persons film, deep. (Imho)
This film is VERY MOVING( Can't think of a better description and even this is not adequate) It's not for everybody. For those who want thrills, action, hot steamy sex FORGET ABOUT IT!!!!! Words fail me.
I suffered through the entire movie. Very slow and the plotline really doesn't develop like you hoped it would. I didn't get this movie. Sorry. 4 outta 10 stars
Absolutely dreadful movie. Ridiculous dialogues. 25 minute exposition. Then nothing, nada, niente, nichts for hours and in the end the totally expected. By the way is there a rule about having to refer or allude to WW2 or include a character with a certain ethnic background in order to get production financing and - more impirtantly - distribution which is in the hands of a certain ethnicity?
Clicked on this because of Elliot Gould. Understated performances by all the actors. Superb story telling.
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed the story.

Frank Langella-Wow! Whadda plot twist!
His subtle mannerisms and movements make him such a believable actor.
can i say i loved this ?

You can tell by the framed shots the film maker of camera man is a professional stills photographer
Good film. Sad, but maybe in a way it shows how we look for some kind of reckoning. Maybe it is sad to me because I know this type of reckoning is very unlikely.

Sad ending. What a great movie

The movie was intense. It made me wonder if Jimmy wanted to die and set up his death with the bird man.
Agreed. As he said about his friend, "he's not afraid of anything". Who better to be there for him during his final moments.
And at the same time knowing that he would follow up with the people that he knew that he cared deeply for so making sure they were taken care of at the same time
1:19:19 "Paths of glory" great movie !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, George Macready and Adolphe Menjou. And Kirk Douglas...I remember it well.
