Dear viewers, this older video has been redone! WE'RE SO EXCITED! Please visit *our new mitosis video* at: ua-cam.com/video/f-ldPgEfAHI/v-deo.html It does a better job at explaining chromosome numbers. We plan to still keep this old video up online though. Looking for a *mitosis vs. meiosis side by side comparison* video? We have that now too! ua-cam.com/video/zrKdz93WlVk/v-deo.html
my exams starts this coming monday and i hv to study this so thnx for the video... ♡ uuuuu
can we save the video offline?
Amoeba Sisters
Hi viewers! We want to point out something important about interphase. You do replicate chromosomes in interphase. But if you count your chromosomes by how many centromeres are present (the central part of a chromosome), then even after replicating 46 chromosomes, you still have 46 chromosomes by definition during the time they are attached at the centromere. This really gets into the chromosome vs. the vocab word "chromatid"---which is really just a duplicated chromosome.
So, is there a time when you can truly count 92 chromosomes during all of this? YES. Just keep in mind that it's not the start of mitosis when they are still all connected to centromeres. And of course don't forget with what you end up with in mitosis---46 chromosomes that are identical to your starting cell. We have a vid now that explains this: ua-cam.com/video/gcz1FOWw0Cg/v-deo.html
Stay curious! :)
Exactly as i explain it to my kids. I have just started using your videos and think they are great!! Thanks!
***** hey i hve question if cells divide, then they should be smaller and smaller cause they are dividing rhight ?
My science teacher would let us watch your vids on what lesson we r learning ^_^ keep on with the great work!!! (Btw I'm in 7th grade)
+wolves heart (ilovewolves) i play animal jam too! :)and i watched this im in 6th grade
+Daetton During interphase, the cell grows and grows and prepares itself for mitosis. When the time comes to actually split, the cell is bigger than it was before so it will actually end up being the same size as it was before.
Wow thank you so much. This actually captures my interest and motivates me to want to learn. The one thing that scares me away from subjects is the complexity, but when they're simplified it doesn't seem so bad...it actually is fun to learn about. So once again thanks :)
Carmen Colon Thank you so much, Carmen! It is our goal to make it fun---we really think biology is fascinating!
Ever wonder why you are bigger today than you were when you were 5? The Amoeba Sisters walk you through the steps of mitosis in part II of our cell cycle series. We provide real world examples in a funny context while teaching some mnemonics for remembering the steps!
thanks for taking your time to share some of your knowledge. you rock!
Thanks Doriel! You made our day!
There is nothing we love more than sharing science! :D
Thank you soo much you just saved my day I have a science test tomorrow about mitosis and this was just very helpful thanks again.
Thanks for watching, Anab! Good luck on your test today! :D
doriel vargas :-) :-) :-) :-)@_&!&$$")((6):)
My biology teacher showed us this and I literally laughed the entire time
I'm a freshman in college, and i recently discovered your videos, they really help me out since I'm taking a cell and molecular biology class for nursing. These videos really click to me better vs my professor teaching lol
I am learning this now in grade 7...
+forevertina 2000 q same here
+forevertina 2000 me 2
+forevertina 2000 me 2
Been looking for a video to show to my class on mitosis. This is the best one I've found. Very interesting, concise and easy to follow. Great work. Thanks guys.
Thanks, Paul! It always makes our day to hear that, and we're really glad you're able to use it! Be sure to subscribe because we come out with a new video every few weeks (our virus video is coming soon) :D
Both new and old video are same🙄
FUN VIDEO!!! I'm already a Registered Nurse going back to school for my BSN and appreciated this video!! THANKS!!! Jen in New Orleans
Jennifer Regan Oh congrats on going back for the BSN! We are trying to promote this kind of video style for classroom creation. If you get a chance and would like to vote for us---we are trying so hard to get accepted for SXSW-Edu :) www.amoebasisters.com/send-us-to-sxsw-edu.html
I'm in my second year of college and this video has totally helped me understand Mitosis without all the complicated parts. Thank you so much for making this video!

Needed this info for a last minute science cell revision and now I've learnt so much about mitosis! Thanks amoeba sisters!
Hi, I am a special education instructional assistant at our local public high school. We have found that this video was VERY useful in helping our kids learn the process of mitosis and WHY mitosis is necessary. Thank you so much for posting it. When we get to the Meiosis process I will be looking for that video for our kids as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hello Diana! Thank you so much for the encouragement! We are so happy to hear that our video is helping your class! We hope you will subscribe for future videos. :D
P.S. Here is the meiosis video!
Meiosis: The Great Divide
Also, we forgot to mention! We are beginning to create handouts for teachers to use that correspond with our video. Our first one is the mitosis video, and more will be uploaded soon! Please let us know what you think should you decide to use them!

I love this channel more than any other channel. You have helped me memorize things that I couldn't before because of the examples you guys use as oppose to just hearing someone talk.. :) thank you!
The drawings are so adorable! Once again thank you. Your protein synthesis vid helped me get an A in my previous exam, pretty sure this'll help out as well. It'd be clear as day to remember.
Kadea Jas So glad we could help you out, Kadea! Petunia is especially glad you find her drawings adorable. :D

Thanks so much for the encouraging words! Stories like that keep us going!
I have to say- I'm a junior in college taking Biology for the first time and this is the only video (out of dozens) that has helped me understand mitosis.
Your channel is so helpful. Wish I would have had these videos last semester! I'm having to retake physio now because I didn't understand anything...thanks so much!
We just watched this video this morning! I swear, I learned alot and I love the video! We even asked our teacher to repeat it again...
Best video to help me understand how the mitosis works; I've been searching everywhere to help me understand this better, u definitely gave me the best explanation and easy to understand. I like the you way to understand the stages by remembering "middle away and two", I can think the prophase stage as "peace" as nucleus is still there and "piece" as the chromosome condensed. But thank you so much!!!!! Xoxo
Absolutely LOVE this video! SO helpful, thanks a bunch!!
These are great videos! Very informative, great illustrations, cute but not talking down to the kids. My 7th graders love it when the Amoeba Sisters visit. Thank you for making them available to everyone!
Thanks, this really helped me with my science/biology revision, keep up the good work, and yet again, thanks
