love how this series is moreso a researcher discovering a dangerous infection that hasn't made progress so he becomes the reason it finally makes progress
@_LunaticMoon Yeah, I very much like how he approaches this mod. A unique take on a prion playthrough is always something I look forward to, and I'm pumped for his next prion infection video.
The prions have actual lore. To quote the mod page: "The prion infection started after a nuclear war broke out. It brought an ancient radioactive element called unneminium to the surface, it made normal proteins turn into prions. Soon the radiation got so strong it made tumours form into new beings. The first one was the so called "Deathworm". The root of the infection. It isn't aggressive towards humans but don't let that fool you. Soon it will evolve and become stronger. Kill everything in sight. The more the infected kill other beings, the higher the phase gets. You can decrease the phase by killing the infected. Try to survive for as long as you can while the infection phase increases, the infected adapt, mutate, evolve, starve and become stronger than ever. The infected may even resort to cannibalism if they become starved. When the phase is high enough, animals and humans have a chance to spawn with the infection, as the overall healthy population becomes smaller, and more and more food is contaminated with prions." The mod initially kicks off underground, as the infected spawn in dark areas only. The infection can have special merge events where enemies merge together to create special, stronger variants, but that comes much later. It DOES have a block infection aspect, but it isn't nearly as bad as other mods, and only kicks off much, much later. Once again - fire is your friend. Infected blocks spread fire quickly but burn slowly, and infected mobs on fire take 1.5x damage. Stock up on food lol In my experience, iron golems are your lifelines in a solo prion playthrough when the infected start adpating and evolving. Iron golems can be used to fend off infected or buy you lots of time to think and act, as the infected are actually well-balanced around the vanilla game. IMO this is one of the higher quality infection mods with unique and interesting mechanics, while being mostly balanced, and encouraging base building.
As a biology nerd, it makes me so happy to see prions used as a zombie disease lol. Usually its viruses or otherwise unspecified pathogens, but prions are lesser known and honestly cooler than viruses in my opinion. The only time I ever saw a prion used as a zombie infection is in Zombieland. The rest is just nerd talk, if you wanna know what a prion is, read on: Normally proteins need to be folded before they can become fully functional in the body. A prion happens when a protein is folded incorrectly, and as such doesn't function as intended. This is so scary because they can turn normal proteins into prions, and cause buildups, usually in the neural tissues, which is very problematic. Also, because prions have the same sequence as a normal protein and are only structurally abnormal, the body doesn't recognize them as a threat, so your immune system can't fight it. Every prion disease that we know of is 100% fatal, with no effective treatment nor vaccine. Some prions you probably know about are Mad Cow Disease (used in Zombieland) and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (the type of CJD that humans get when they eat cow brains affected with Mad Cow. Normal CJD isn't linked to Mad Cow in any way).
Can definitely appreciate a more subtle infection mod, Gives the player more of a balanced chance to prepare for later stages. That or maybe starting in a desert probably limits what mobs they can infect. Great stuff as usual!
The camel is super tall so it doesn't let you get hit by shorter mobs like the zombie or spider. He can probably be super useful against infections with mobs like this
the phase mechanic works by increasing some stat of the infected (eg. health, speed, damage, etc) every time the phase number goes up and at certain thresholds it introduces new features like infected blocks and the creatures being able to be infected by the lacearators and at some point (around phase 500-700) the infected should start spawning meshes of flesh like tanks or heeds and will start breaking your doors unless they are iron, also the night walker acts as just an early game annoyance like the cannibals do later the phases can also increase till the engine limit, hope this helps next episode
You should definitely add the Jenny Mod. I think it'd fit in real nice with the current theme of the world. Apocalyptic and whatnot. And livestream it, don't forget to livestream it.
they getting trucks of points when you sleep... you're gonna get handed by their boss/land infector (they can assimilate blocks once that thing has enough points and spawns that in) hits like a hyper-evolved spore mob with high hp.. (3000 points)
I will say, this mod starts out like SRP and ends like Spore, with giant amalgamations of bodies. They're like Calamities, but the update that adds them hasn't released yet. They do further evolve right now though, Prion is just VERY slow.
Never felt slow honestly. That one time I tried this mod, I got immediately overwhelmed as I started next to a really deep river. As a result, all the fishes got murdered and reused into biomass the moment the first night arrived. I got immediately overwhelmed by a HORDE of lacerators. Needless to say, Prion did a speedrun of their entire evolution tree and started exclusively spawning the advanced Hive units as there wasn't any biome conversion yet. So I just saw 8 of those things walk in the horizon. Edit: *Eight Fucking Hives.* (holY shit - The Source, Parasite Hivemind)
I have a mod for my own infection modpack that makes it so enemies detect you only when they see you, like you mentioned. so you could sneak past them if you are careful enough: it's called "Only Looking"
Camels are useful for multiplayer (2 seats) and vanilla mobs that aren't ranged, or endermen / golems. As you ride above the attack range of most mobs. Their jump is horizontal, aka they have a dash.
Mesa biome has a higher gold ore generation. So if you bring a fortune pickaxe, it is way more worth it to grind there an anywhere else. Don't underestimate people's wish for gold.
Is your character name 0Dna. I've had the name Dna on everything including minecraft for 20 years when I saw that on one of your videos I viscerally reacted
I feel like the reason this isn't progressing is simply due to the area, the creatures are weak, but would get stronger feeding on animals, which due to being in an area with basically none, doesn't allow that to happen. Maybe a forest area would help it spring to life?
Bro went full Mr Best on those poor villagers ...................... Also pro tip f3 + b let you see hitbox it probably gonna help you against those small little shits you call you are nemesis
You could've just gave the last two villagers bread, then giving their offspring to the lacerators to eat. Instead you're with a dead village, but however you can also just break the beds of the other desert village, carry the survivors back to your walled village so that they become invested in their new home, force them to repopulate with bread and food (drop it on the ground and they pick it up), and feed the babies to the prion mobs.
