Don't bother here how you get promoted fast and get a salary increase in a corporation: 1. Stay away from hard work like the plaque, will only get you tired and you are better busting of energy. 2. Speak and show off in the meetings, always speak loud and confident even if you are talking nonsense. 3. Befriend your boss, and who ever can help you with your promotion, be ready to go out and have a drink togheter whenever the chance. In corporations promotions are all about politics, not work.
My first job I got promoted at was literally because of chance. I got lucky and got on the good side of my manager. You also need to make them dependent on you by working hard though. Take in those high risk tasks and perform well enough to where they need you. Then just stay there for eons
Promotion is solely by your boss but success depends on ourselves. So try your best to ensure your boss likes u, then the likelihood of u being promoted will be higher-it’s usually not abt ‘silent hard work’ but always ‘loud impressions’ formed in your boss’s mind!
Agree about updating your boss. It gives visibility which is so important. It is so hard for a boss to see your hard work in this hybrid environment when they have 10+ reportables. Someone once told me you have one job: make your boss and boss's boss look good.
Thank you for agreeing that updating our bosses is such an underrated and understated career skill. I only wish I knew about it earlier, I believe my career would have gone to more places with it.
As someone that has been promoted quite a few time in my work life you nailed it right on the head. Its all about going beyond your role that makes a difference for a promotion. Some people have this notion that they should only do what they're paid to do yet expect to be promoted because they work hard at what they're "supposed" to do anyway. Obviously there are a lot of variable that comes into play such as your work ethics & how you work with people, etc.. as well.
Well said! Where do you think that the notion of work hard (even if it's the same task) = promotion came from? From where I'm from, I observed it coming from being told since young that steer hard work alone will and should be rewarded, and thus people find it very hard to give up that belief.
This advice don’t work for me. Most of my previous boss are insecure when i ask to help do things on their plate. If you can do their job, why company would need them
@@gptvn1765 This is exactly what my point is about. Its no difference than saying "they dont pay me to do your job". This mindset doesn't get you anywhere close to a promotion. The entire reason why you are "helping" them do their job simply show you have the capability to do exactly what they do if put in the same position thus you are likely viewed as a potential candidate to be promoted. Like I said, there are a lot of variable that plays into this as well. Some places, you may be exceeding and doing beyond what you are doing yet not getting the recognition that you deserve. This is where you have to be smart enough to know your own worth and find a place that appreciate you for your efforts and skills.
Well said. on your last point I also see how tough it is for people to 1) recognize their self worth and 2) have the courage to leave their comfort zone and go somewhere else that may appreciate them more.
I live in Philippines. I did loose my job. But I am not worried, because I have a business, a small one but still gave me much more than what My job could ever muster. This realization allowed me to put myself out there but in a different way. With expensive bills, a house with taxes, cars to maintain. It needs more than a job if you want to keep those. Work hard and work smart. But not for a company, not for a dream of someone you do not even know, but do it for yourself. Build your dreams.
🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭hello my friend from the Philippines! Thank you for watching and reminding us that we can and must do better. Your advice came at just the right time as I am building my dream too as we speak ❤️
I think this is very helpful advice. The Monday and Friday catch ups is probably something all smart people are doing but it is a good tip for a lowly employee like me.
Thanks for checking out my other videos! And don't be so hard on yourself and don't ever think lowly of yourself. The fact that you are out here on YT watching videos to improve yourself already says much about your drive to grow.
I managed a group during my career. Those that checked in with me regularly were the ones I relied on, gave bigger raises and overall had job security in our company.
Working hard just gets you burn out. Your superior wont recognize your value on paper. They dont see the blood and sweat you sacrifice for your job. They dont see the time you lose that you could be with your family. They dont see the internal conflicts you have to deal with when you leave work.
I am glad you found it relevant! Thank you for your support and for also watching, and please consider subscribing as it will help my channel greatly! All the best in whatever you are pursuing too!
I am glad you found it useful. I also wish this was taught at schools or discussed at the family dinner table, but I guess we all had to learn it the hard way.
Even though I dislike admitting it, you're right about how the corporate ladder works. Unfortunately, hard work alone isn't enough, and the idea of fair promotions based on hard work is often a myth.
Yes I found it hard to admit (or accept). And no one in school or at home really told us that's how the real corporate world operates, and we have to navigate it on our own.
HARD WORK = SUCCESS only in YOUR OWN BUSINESS, and not serving in the corporate world. There, you are just a number. You are not considered human despite the propaganda agenda to make you think that You Are Family and A Valuable Employee. They want to make money for the firm, the executives and the stockholders. You are just a plastic, disposable tool, like a paintbrush or sandals. When was the last time you cried when you threw out an old tool, a pair of sneakers, or old stained underwear?
Thanks for sharing this, Shao! It also reminds me that we work to live not live for work. Do less on work but efficiently and impactful :) With ❤ from Indonesia 😊
These meetings with the seniors all together are so lame! They should have the juniors involved bc we know which of our colleagues are slacking off and steal ideas from each other in order to look good in from of the seniors!
The dimension is rising. It's no more a physical realm. So the electro-magnetic field affects people's mental capability and emotions. It's good to do what you want instead of being forced and pushed. The system is going away.
You basically are saying "if the company is not promoting you, become the puppet of your boss a a way to begging for the promotion", I rater to look for another company.
Look my math formula, which you dump teachers/ nobel winning professors never knew nor tough you because they live inside a book or Elsevier: So kids or elders here is the math of corporate life: Hard work = success - mental stability - physical health - emotional health = success + misery + sooner death Post it somewhere and sooner or later revise it frequently
That's actually a very valid question. In normal times I would say that's definitely a career risk. But in today's job climate where job loyalty is less valued, even my managers and directors themselves are pretty open in interviewing themselves. I was also lucky to have a manager openly encouraging me to interview outside so I would know my true market value. I then come back to share with him what I have learnt, what other skills I am lacking for those external roles (the most common one I got early in my career was "lack of strategic planning"), and thus how can he (my manager) help me gain those skills at my current job to perform better.
I feel you, that's one of the toughest positions to be in the workplace. I hope my video helps you a bit and you are able to build your own career soon.

So true. Promotion is not how good you are, but about how people think you are

you are giving actionable strategies.. thanks for sharing

Ouch harsh but very realistic

Terima kasih! Yes let's strive to work smart and not just work hard!
Not now, I have a meeting with the Bobs - office space
😂😂😂
I prefer employees who make my life easier and do what they’re told to employees who go out of their way to be perfect.
Don't forget this ; show and tell.
Now I realize why schools make "show and tell" such a big deal, because it really is a big deal.
I have subscribed.......I support u❤.......
Great practical tips here!!
I'd rather do more and lead less because that's how I keep my learning skills abroud!!
That's a great attitude to grow your career!
Lol you basically putting yourself in the lime light to get used😂😂
If you are so proactive, your boss will keep you AT thé Same place.

Don’t you think interviewing 6-12 months can backfire? It’s a small world in tech and it can come back to your manager.

My English is not good. I hope you can speak chinese or maybe chinese lyrics. Thanks.❤

I seem to be evidence of the unpromoted hard worker
I feel you, that's one of the toughest positions to be in the workplace. I hope my video helps you a bit and you are able to build your own career soon.
Take the lie and make it true. If someone less qualified and less hard working than you gets promoted over you then that's a mandatory quit.
You need to be lazy like the gov. No one is doing their job. I got fire 2 times in a month for working too hard! 😛
Oh no I hope you are well and find something else that suits you more soon!
Typical north American culture.. here I'm sat in canada working my arse off while my boss takes the credit.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
