  • Here I pour 2 puddles on a 40"x16" canvas and surround them by white paint.
    All the colors have Liquitex pouring medium added to them and are then diluted with water.

    I don’t know if anyone else does this - but when I watch you on my phone I find myself moving my phone like I am helping you move your pour around haha 😂 I am a fan of negative space and depth at the same time working together and I think this is stunningly beautiful with both effects being balanced!!

    I love this one MelyD. Listen, I can't believe how well cells are produced by using Liquitex pouring medium. It acts like you put satin enamel in the white mix. Again, the cost of these materials can be so high, but honestly, I feel like the pouring medium is an essential part of doing this kind of artwork. It really adds the extra punch to kick the painting up a couple of notches.

    I have a tip for those who ask, "how much" medium do you pour?" This is a tip from my bartending days, simply count 1001, 1002 (etc) as you pour. Since each person counts at a different pace, they can count to your video as you are pouring and then practice (measure) by pouring the medium into a shot glass or measuring cup marked for ounces. As you pour, count the 1001, 1002 and see how much it measures. I've been counting your pours of Liquitex Pouring medium and for my pace, "most" of your pours average a 2-count of "1001, 1002." The really small amounts of paint that look like they are less than 1 ounce in your cup, sometimes you only pour to the count of 1001 and for your white cup, sometimes 1001, 1002, 1003. When counting, count at a normal pace, meaning not fast, but a normal speaking pace. Although a count of 1001 is supposed to = 1/2 ounce, 1001, 1002 = 1 ounce, and 1001, 1002, 1003 = 1.5 ounce (measuring 1/2 ounce per count), most people just don't count at the same pace. Hope this helps.

    Love it! I Love doing negative space paintings, HOWEVER, I have not done one without Smashing and torching it.
    Sooooo, for today, YOU, my dear, will be my inspiration.
    I have a very large canvas, and the "geode" look will be superb. I will look to see if you posted other colors in this technique. Thank you for sharing with us.
    TODAY: I shall not smash. I shall not torch. That's my mantra for the day...gonna be hard for me not to smash, but I do have some will power!

    Have a blessed day, Mely.

      I bought the expensive Liquitex pouring medium, and it did nothing for me. I switched to Floetrol, and I LOVE it! I get cells no matter what and swipes are ridiculously awesome! Also I use the Treadmill Silicone. I like these products very much and use nothing else but distilled water. My pours come out nice. I also use the house paint, in satin, for my white. Never get cracking or crazing this way.

      If you are speaking about the other brand of paint that is in my white mix, it is not included in the document. The document is a compilation of everything I show put into words with pictures and detailed info. I created it because I was and still am incapable of answering everyone's questions. It is the go-to for all the info that I update as I go. My channel is where I share my experiments and I have never asked for a penny for all the time and money I put into it. If you find it frustrating, then maybe you can do like me and practice on your own?

    Hi Mely, just wondering if you could tell more of an exact measure of paint to water to pouring medium that you used to achieve this look. you said at the beginning of this video that you had 2 bottles of colour per cup, and I seen you added a squirt of pouring medium, but later it looked like your cups were quite full, did you use a lot of water? I have noticed that you are able to move yours paint quickly and have a good amount of run-off, is your paint quite runny, and if so do you find that it leaves the canvas marks when dry. Also, when the paint moves back toward the middle (making those amazing wispy cells) does the paint crack when dry, do to a thicker amount collecting in the middle? I really enjoy seeing your videos, because you tend to use large canvas, which I think give a bigger wow factor to the finished results!! Can I ask where you get your canvas, as I find them so expensive, I have yet to practice on a large one :/ Thanks for sharing your videos!

    Mely, let me first say... I so love an enjoy watching you create these awesome paintings.. I have experimented with a few styles like yours and they never seem to work for me... I am not sure if you accept color suggestions but here it goes... Being a Native American the colors of a medicine wheel are often used in our traditional art and so forth. I have tried a few times with these colors and never seem to get them to work . So with that I would love to see what you would create with white, red, yellow and black. Just a thought...

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      April Ledford the thing about those colors is if you don't prepare your paint really well and choose the right brands there is a chance they will mix. Red and white will make pink, yellow and red will make orange. It's a great idea and I might just try it out ;) thanks!

  • @j257275
    @j257275 6 років тому

    Cool experiment and awesome looking painting. I have question, did you add silicon oil at any point? Reason is because at the end the painting was looking dry and dull than the time you were pouring.

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      Jaimin Patel I'm not sure I understand what silicone oil has to do with dullness but then again I've never used it. It dries matte because that's how these acrylic paints dry. Have you done any pours?

    • @j257275
      @j257275 6 років тому

      Thanks for reply. No I am totally new. I was just wondering once pour dries it becomes duller than when it was wet, so to make it shine some silicon oil is used with color or at the end as polish.

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      Jaimin Patel people who use silicone oil use it to create cells. It must be washed off afterwards before adding a varnish or resin coating.

    • @j257275

    I enjoy your painting and just started doing my own fluid pour projects. Question please - should the canvas texture be showing thru on the sides and corners? It’s covered well in paint, but in some areas I can see the pattern of the canvas. Is there a way to keep that from happening? Thanks!!!

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      Yes once dried, It's perfectly normal that you see the texture of the canvas through. It's part of the reason I use it, so it looks like an art piece. If you don't like it, you can pour on glass or wood maybe?
