    For me as a newcomer to trail running, the shoe is a good beginner's shoe.
    It offers more grip and support than a normal road running shoe, but still has the cushioning I am used to from road running shoes.
    I ran a Salomon trail running shoe at a trail running workshop and my feet found the difference very hard to get used to for a beginner.

    I have the second version. I got up to 230 miles in them, drilled screws into the outsole, and made them my snow/ice shoes. The wide base and the fact that it sits so far off the ground works well in the snow.

  • @OrdMandrell1
    @OrdMandrell1 Рік тому +5

    Already got my pair.
    The V1's were road to trail powerhouses but the traction wasn't good enough for serious trail. The V2's were a massive improvement but they were very 'experimental' in their design and build. But these V3's are finally ready for prime time. They basically took their More V4's for road running, slapped a Vibram outsole on them and added a dual layer of foam to make them a teeny tiny more responsive for trails (as opposed to the super cushioned midsole for road).
    They're now as good as the Hoka Speedgoats and the Brooks Caldera.
    p.s. I know you dislike this level of cushioning but this review is valuable for us ultra-cush fans. We now know that any future reviews where you think the shoe in question has too much cushioning - then it's perfect for us 😜.

      @@Cookefan59 Fresh Foam X is softer than the usual Fresh Foam, depending on how much heavier we are talking you can over-compress the foam and really throw off the geometry, especially with a low drop shoe, if you sink too deeply into that heel foam it can really mess your feet up. I had issues with Topo Ultraventure and their Zipfoam, its just too squish and my heel ends up lower than my forefoot after sinking into the foam and negative drop shoes are not a thing for a reason.

      Yes! Training for my first 100 miler now. The race will be on flat hard packed gravel. I’ve been running in the invincible 3 on the road and love them, I want a similar feeling on the trail. My options were the more trail v3 and the trabuco max. I chose the more trail v3 because the road version is highly rated, ordered a few minutes ago. Would’ve loved a head to head comparison between the shoes.

    Great review mate! I ordered myself a pair and I must say there brilliant for us heavier people, I’m 6”5 and weigh 102kg and I absolutely love running but the impact on my knees and ankles are taking its toll on me now until I found these bad lads! Literally a pain free run it was absolutely bliss. I agree there a bit dodgy on trails though well a bit more complicated ones that is as you can’t feel the ground at all and could easily roll an ankle. Would love a video on shoes for impact for us heavier runners or even any recommendations would be great👍

      Hey! 😊 Would you mind giving me a little feedback on a specific point? CONTEXT: So I'm unfortunately not that tall (only 175 cm) but got 109kg and hit the gym daily (not sure if relevant, but bf on around 23% but good amount of muscles too). I've recently had a rupture in my left knee's ACL and fractured my meniscus. Had surgery last September and since November I was already doing indoor bike, and back to gym since December. I still have some instability (more 6 months of physio) and still can't run, but can walk normally.
      MY QUESTION: I have my first international trip (to Europe) coming in and I'm looking for a very cushioned pair of shoes to walk a lot with the minimal knee discomfort. Would you recommend these guys for like, a lot of walking during 3 weeks? The most difficult scenario I'll be in is probably a few hikes in the four days in Switzerland, but for that I might get something else, I'm mainly interested in the comfort these folks would provide me during long hours.
      Thank you in advance buddy, and sorry for the long text.

    Thanks for this review Loyd, I was looking forward to it, as I purchased a pair of the NB Trail Version 2s on sale to replace my Salomon Ultraglides. I've now done over 300km in them, and your summary is spot on, very comfy but you need to concentrate when the trail gets a bit gnarly. I'll keep them going for a few more months but will revert to something comfortable but more compact after that. Loved that soundtrack you used.

    I saw NB V2 on sale and said I would try them, hated them at first but when I broke em in I loved them, good for getting in the big miles with less soreness after. on race day I will go for Sg5 or Keiger, NB not good for technical trails, can't wait to try V3 out for training and putting in the miles, balance is tricky at first but ok for just plodding along, Loyd come to Ireland and try the Kerry Way Ultra. One of the most distinctive things about the "NB Mores" is that extremely wide outsole platform. For this reason, it could affect your choice of foot placement in a narrow area. Loyd gets into this a bit around 13:32. Could require a significant mental adjustment, depending on what you like to run through.

    I bought these and have sent them back. Mainly because I found the toe box too shallow. But also, I couldn’t really think of a good argument to keep them. My Xodus ultra 2 have a more spacious toe box and can do everything the More Trail could do and more. And the dry, smooth terrain that I would use the More trail for I could just as easily use road shoes.

    These super stack shoes seem to be getting crazy. Not sure why trail shoes need to be so cushioned, when you are on a trial. The super cushion shoes seem fine for easy days on the road when you just want to get miles in without fatiguing your feet and legs, but not often. Work on foot strength to help improve your days out. I am really looking forward to the Unknown trail.

    I have the NB More Trail v2 and have done about 100 ish miles of running and probably about 50miles of walking/ hiking in them. I think for 9/10 situations there is too much cushioning and they feel a bit cumbersome. I did a 50k which was mainly on the ex estuary cycle path and for that they were brilliant. Probably their ideal use case as you say. But then when I used them for a much more technical and very muddy half marathon on the coast path at Polzeath I found them not great on the steep or off camber sections.
    I mainly use as a walking/ dog walking shoe now but do occasionally run in them.

      @Run4Adventure  Місяць тому +1

      It really depends on what’s causing your Soleus pain? Have you had it looked at? If it’s instability or lack of strength in the lower leg then this shoe would be terrible! Because the cushioning is so soft and so high it can run quite unstable on uneven ground! Hope this helps and thanks for watching Joshua🙏🙂

      @@Run4Adventure thanks for replying, fairly new to running and loving the content. I think it’s down to instabilities as I had 0 pain using Northface vectiv went to some Nike cushioned Nike invincible 3s and it came on within a couple miles

    Do you ever use lockdown eyelets on shoes that are unstable or have heel slippage? Either with or without using a runners knot? Just curious because I’ve watched a bunch of your video reviews and don’t recall you ever showing you using those extra eyelets. Obviously I enjoy and get alot out of your reviews. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Рік тому +1

      I really don't get on with using the extra eyelets, especially with a runner knot! I've tried it before and I just find it uncomfortable on the top of my foot unfortunately. I also think if you need to use it, it probably means your not in the right shoe for your footshape 🤔
      Thanks for watching 🙏

    • @boxscoretoday8019
      @boxscoretoday8019 Рік тому

      Thanks for reply. I agree with you that the runners knot can cause irritation across the top of the foot. So I have used the extra eyelet without the knot on some shoes that I’ve had heel slippage on. It has helped for me. I also agree that having to use the extra eyelet may mean the shoe is not right for me, but not trying it seems like a missed opportunity. Mostly because my right and left foot are not exactly the same. Not a big difference, like maybe 1/32 inch difference smaller than the other, but can cause slippage in one shoe. Sorry for way-to-much detail. Thanks again for your efforts in reviews and making yhe videos. Enjoy your runs.
