@@petercornetet8267 DCF floors can hold up alright but they aren't more durable than a similar weight woven floor. They don't save weight, don't add durability, and the main problem is that the 1.0oz DCF used for the Duplex floor is 2.5x as thick as regular DCF, so it makes the tent quite bulky. Congrats on another product launch Dan and team! Absolutely incredible how much you fit into one pound. And insane how much you kept the original design while shedding weight. I’m eyeing & saving up for the Xmid 2 right now, looking forward to joining the community.
It seems to be a great tent and I'm considering buying one, but as a kayaker I would prefere a freestanding tent. It would be great if you could make a freestanding tent. Most freestanding tents on the market you have to put up first the inner-tent and then put the outer-tent tent over it. If it is raining, the whole inner-tent is wet. Or they are really heavy. Greetings from Switzerland.
The Durston tents are a very nice addition to the shelter industry. I have a standard X-Mid 1p v2 tent. I thanked Dan for the roomy tent. But, one night I got lost inside of the tent, and couldn’t find my room or my flashlight. So, I just paced the halls until sunup. sigh Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
@@Ryan-yi5ro It's gotta be the GDT. Partly there's just so much more to it (1100 vs 75 km) but I'm also a sucker for the beauty of the Rockies. The coast is awesome but those high peaks in the Rockies are where my heart is at.
The reason I love my Xmid 1p so much is because the removable inner screen makes it so versatile with the option to use it with or without the inner screen portion or without the fly with the stargazer kit on a beautiful clear night. Will the Xmid pro 1 or 2 ever be offered with a removable inner screen option? Either way still the best tent on the market in my opinion, well done Dan Durston 👍
Probably not, but I agree with you. It would be amazing to be able to use just the fly or just the inner and still have the weight saving. As far as I know, no double wall DCF tents exist so it would be a good selling point.
@@Andy-Mesa Tarptent has a couple double wall DCF tents (the Notch Li would be the closest to this) , but they are difficult to pitch correctly and they have those annoying struts that make packing them a pain.
Will be using the X-Mid 1P Solid for my AT Thru hike starting next month but will be looking at picking up this tent when it comes available again. Great products as always Dan!
I may pick up one of your tents in the future. Currently I have the big Agnes carbon 3 person tent and that one cost me 2 thousand dollars. It’s only two pounds and made out of tons of that dyneema stuff. But I like your designs. I also have a few Nemo tents.
Steadily getting better over time at these videos. They're more work each time though too. They sure are a lot better than the original 1P video in 2018 :)
Still got the 1st edition Xmid 1P and loving it. Was backpacking with two friends last Nov when a freak hailstorm hit. Was able to just setup the fly real quick and get emergency shelter for three. I understand it's lighter to just have the inner and outer combined and delete the two mesh sidewalls but I would love to see an option like the original. Definitely stormworthy, but I would get better stakes to go with it since it puts a lot of tension on the 4 corner stakes.
Nice tent. Two vestibules is extremely nice in bad conditions but I am wondering if extending the tent floor on one side to create more indoor space would have been worth it. It would complicate things when setting up a bit more and if the fly was open it would directly rain into the bath tub...but there's already a massive vestibule on the other side for cooking / getting out of wet clothes. Minimal weight gain of course as well.
I did look at this. The trouble is that if I extend the floor to fill one vestibule then the pole would be on top which people would worry about and find strange - unless I fenced it off in one corner then the floor is a very odd shape.
Hi Dan. It looks great, congratulations and thank you for all your hard work. I just ordered one in Ireland. I already own a Zpacks Plex Solo and will probably choose one of these two as my main tent👌
Thanks for giving out tent a look. I hope you like it. Compared to the Plex Solo, it is ~70g heavier but it you would typically use 5 or 6 stakes instead of 10, so the total weight is very similar yet the X-Mid Pro 1 is much more spacious and also more stormworthy with more fly coverage, peak vents, larger vestibule etc.

Could you guys please release a video on the x-mid 2 solid? Even maybe do a extreme weather test with it and how well it handles summer heat? I'm torn between the regular and solid and can't decide. I do a lot of camping/canoeing here in Missouri and the weather can change very quickly. It also gets hot and humid sometimes so does the Solid still have a lot of ventilation?
A video would be nice but we don't have one currently. We do have our video on the X-Mid 2 and then the X-Mid 2 Solid is almost identical except for the inner, which you can see in the photos. The inner is warmer but still has mesh for the top half of the doors. It can be too hot in places like Arizona but should be fine year round in most areas. Some popular tents like the MSR Hubba Hubba only come in a solid version.
Dan does it again! I’m still rocking my regular xmid 2p but I plan to get a pro someday. For my needs, the sil-poly 2p has been perfect. Side note question for anyone… I have a tent question for anyone who can answer. The seam tape on my old MSR Hubba Hubba started flaking away and it needs to be seam sealed. No big deal. I’ve had it for 15 years. My question is, what is the shelf life of seam tape and if it eventually fails on my xmid, would you recommend retaping it, or just removing the old tape and sealing with a brush and silicone sealer? Thanks to anyone who answers!
I ordered the X-Mid Pro 1 yesterday ⛺💸 One unclear thing: what height tent pole should I use for the tent? I already have two 48" tent poles. Will those work?
Adjustable poles are best so you can fine tune the pitch. The actual height will vary depending on the pitch and uneven ground but it is usually about 45" for the X-Mid Pro 1. You could probably use your 48" poles if you angle them but it won't be ideal. Thanks for your support! Dan

@@durstongear GREAT NEWS for me. It stated that it was OOS on the website for the XMPro 1 so I just thought that I missed the release date. Thanks so much for the update. And thanks for designing and making great products. On a related note, I just watched Dan's interview with Rip Stop by the Roll guys recorded several months back... it was so entertaining and interesting.
Thanks for the kind words. This tent usually pitches at 115-118 cm depending on the terrain and how it pitched. Adjustable poles are nice but yes you can fixed length ones at 120 cm and just angle them slightly if they're a bit too long.
Our regular pitching video shows one good way to roll it near the end, but any way that involves you folding it into a strip and rolling that up is good.
This looks awesome Dan. I've ordered mine and can't wait to try it out. Any chance you've got an extended cut of the video packing it away? I'm just conscious I'm going to have to fold and roll this one up rather than stuffing it like I do with the silpoly version
I've seen lost hiking poles when hiking in complex rock where one slid down and I was walking from a lower path due to not reading the path correctly if you only had one pole could you survive ? It's a small concern I have about hiking pole tents where something that could get lost during the hike being needed.
Hi Paul, Thanks for your interest. There are a variety of options in a case where you have lost a trekking pole: 1) If you broke the pole, if it is a flick lock design often you can reinsert the remaining tip to continue to use the pole and often it is still long enough. 2) You can use a stick instead. Break it to the right length or a bit longer and angle it. Put something protective on the top like a sock or mitt to avoid damaging the tent. 3) You can tie the peak up to a tree and not use a pole at one peak 4) You can borrow a pole from another hiker So losing a pole is rare, but if it happens you can usually figure out alternative. If you could not figure out anything, then you could have no pole at the foot end of the tent. The tent will still stand but the fly would be touching your sleeping bag at the foot end so you could put your rain jacket over your sleeping bag to protect it if the conditions are wet. Cheers, Dan
We don't take Paypal because they are difficult for new businesses like ours. They think new businesses with high sales are risky so they sometimes choose to freeze the payments until sometimes up to 1 year after the orders are shipped, which is difficult when we have bills to pay too. So we only take regular credit card rights now. Maybe some day we will add paypal again.
Is there any way to measure/state the "actual" footprint, including guy lines? Or even just full space this tent requires vs. some others? Because I have one of the big name silpoly trekking poles tents, and it just requires too much space, especially for the main/peak guy line that holds the whole thing up. I'd like to try the X-Mid Pro 1, but not if I end up with the same problem of having to always find a camping spot with flat ground that's large enough for a trekking pole tent.
With the X-Mid Pro 1 is was a goal to get the footprint smaller, so it is our smallest footprint tent. It's still a spacious tent so it's not a tiny footprint but it manages to be big on the inside and relatively small on the outside due to the steeper walls. The actual footprint is 63" x 98". Unlike many trekking pole tents, the fly comes right down to the ground (for better protection against drafts and splatter) which can make the footprint a bit larger except that you don't need the long cords like other tents. You can have the cords really short at about 1-2" if you want because the fly does come to the ground. You can basically pin the corners right to the ground for a footprint that is not larger than the fly.
Dan is rolling the best option for repacking? Also should the floor be on outside of the roll or DCF or no difference? Thanks! Just hoping to make mine last as long as possible
Rolling is the best. You can have the floor inside or inside. I roll it towards the floor to put the floor on the outside mostly because it is easier to squeeze out the air this way.
There are a few advantages: The sliders are always at the same spot so it's easy to find in the night. It also helps the zippers last longer because going around corners puts most of the wear on the zipper, and they operate more easily one handed.
Congrats on the launch. The 1P version looks awesome! I have the Pro 2 on order. Just curious if the 1P and 2P will be shipping out around the same time (I’m assuming they’re shipping from the factory at the same time)?
We just got both tents here at our workshop. We'll ship the 2P first since we took those orders first, so the 2P will start shipping in a day or two, and then it'll take us a week or so to ship them all and then the 1P will ship.
I have both the X-mid Pro 1 and 2; which I set-up with Exped trekking pole that adjust in 5cm (2") increments, this makes using the suggested method of setting up no really available to me. I do get a nice taut pitch, but I don't understand the relationship between the tension of stake lines to height of poles to the level of the outer edge of the tent above the ground (i.e air flow). I seam to always start with taut stake lines and end up with a very low good for storm conditions pitch. Any suggestions?
The main thing is that the corner cords act like extensions of the fly. If you have long corner cords it'll pitch higher and short cords will pitch lower. Set the cords how you like when staking it out. You can't change this later unless you move the stakes. Once the stakes are in, then snug up the base tight so that the corners aren't pulled inward (giving loose sides) when the poles are added.
Amazing tent Dan, looks like a great alternative to zpack, my old duplex is done…will buy the X mid pro 1 or 2 not sure yet! Building the same tent with ultra 100 or 200 fabric instead of DCF is feasible?
Hi Dan! Ordered tent in Solid version to Ukraine through local shipping company. But have one interesting question. How to setup tent in cold weather, when the ground is frozen but there is no snow and no stones either?
Nice! If the ground is frozen but no snow, then it is best to use very strong nail type stakes that you can hammer in, like this: vargooutdoors.com/products/titanium-nail-peg
Amazing product and so well thought out! Question is the floor durable enough for camping on rock surfaces above tree level -- Sierras, Wind River, Etc...?
The floor materials in the X-Mid are selected as a balance of weight and durability, where I try to select the lightest material that is still durable enough that is reasonable to use without a groundsheet. So for many people it is fine to not use one, but you do need to use a bit of care (e.g. check sites for sharp rocks and sticks) and there can be harsh surfaces where one is needed (e.g. gravel, rock). We find about 40-50% of X-Mid owners prefer to use a groundsheet either for added protection, peace of mind, or to keep the floor clean. So we offer them even though we don't say they are needed. The choice comes down to how you value weight savings versus added protection/longevity. - Dan
How does this tent hold up with hail? I'm planning on the CDT next year and would love to go for a Dyneema x-mid, but have heard conflicting stories as to how this material does under hail conditions.
It's complicated but the X-Mid Pro does better than most DCF tents because it doesn't have a flattish roof panel that takes direct blows. Huge hail can still damage it but regular hail is fine. A woven tent can be better in hail, but the DCF is much stronger and better in severe winds, so both have their strengths and weaknesses but overall reports of DCF tents getting damaged are very rare.
It's silnylon. I really like silpoly but the main advantage (no sag) isn't important for a floor. I was able to find a 15D nylon that is similar durability to our usual 20 poly floors but lighter. Poly doesn't come that light, so for the Pro tents as our superlight series I used that.
I set up the tent for the first time today. I'm really excited. However, there is one thing that worries me, and that is the underbody. The material seems really thin. Do sharp stones and the weight of the sleeping person really not bother the subfloor? I can already see the holes there. Is an additional tent pad recommended?

Congrats on another product launch Dan and team! Absolutely incredible how much you fit into one pound. And insane how much you kept the original design while shedding weight. I’m eyeing & saving up for the Xmid 2 right now, looking forward to joining the community.
Thanks for the kind words!
If I wasn't already waiting on the Pro2 (ship soon?), you'd have me. Great tent.
Thanks Eric!
Thank you, Dan.
Can’t wait to get my hands on it!!!
This will be my next tent to replace my current 1pm Dyneema tent. Thanks for the innovations.

Super excited, just bought one.

I may pick up one of your tents in the future. Currently I have the big Agnes carbon 3 person tent and that one cost me 2 thousand dollars. It’s only two pounds and made out of tons of that dyneema stuff. But I like your designs. I also have a few Nemo tents.
Great video and presentation, the tents are great and you are getting good at making videoes 🙂
Simply beautiful.
@@durstongear Oh I see. That makes sense. Thanks for the reply!
@@durstongear Thank you for all these details. Honestly, just watching this great presentation - video, I realized that this can be the best one-person tent on the market right now, that's why I bought it without hesitation....... I will leave on Lycian Way, in Turkey, shortly, and I will use it there. Of course I will leave a review here. Once again, thank you very much.
I'm normally a fan of Hilleberg tents. Ultra right, rather than ultra light, I've often said while thinking of the details of the Hillebergs. looking at the details of Durston gear, I see the mind of a genius. Apparently, for me, now it's time for Ultra light.

Side note question for anyone…
I have a tent question for anyone who can answer.
Dreamy❤
I ordered the X-Mid Pro 1 yesterday ⛺💸
One unclear thing: what height tent pole should I use for the tent? I already have two 48" tent poles. Will those work?
Adjustable poles are best so you can fine tune the pitch. The actual height will vary depending on the pitch and uneven ground but it is usually about 45" for the X-Mid Pro 1. You could probably use your 48" poles if you angle them but it won't be ideal.
Thanks for your support!

Gosh, i want one so badly. Im desperate for a light tent. I have an old north face tent I need to trash first
Can you use any kind of trekking poles? I have 120cm fixed length collapsible poles.
It's a really nice design 👏
Thanks for the kind words. This tent usually pitches at 115-118 cm depending on the terrain and how it pitched. Adjustable poles are nice but yes you can fixed length ones at 120 cm and just angle them slightly if they're a bit too long.
I understand it is best to roll the DCF rather than stuff it. If there is a preferred rolling method for this tent, I'd love to see it!
Fold and roll for sure with Dyneema tents. 👍
Yeah fold and roll. Our pitching video for the regular X-Mid shows this technique at the end.
Nice work! Impressive looking tent.
Wow!!!
Thanks Sherry!

I've seen lost hiking poles when hiking in complex rock where one slid down and I was walking from a lower path due to not reading the path correctly if you only had one pole could you survive ? It's a small concern I have about hiking pole tents where something that could get lost during the hike being needed.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your interest. There are a variety of options in a case where you have lost a trekking pole:
1) If you broke the pole, if it is a flick lock design often you can reinsert the remaining tip to continue to use the pole and often it is still long enough.
2) You can use a stick instead. Break it to the right length or a bit longer and angle it. Put something protective on the top like a sock or mitt to avoid damaging the tent.
3) You can tie the peak up to a tree and not use a pole at one peak
4) You can borrow a pole from another hiker
So losing a pole is rare, but if it happens you can usually figure out alternative. If you could not figure out anything, then you could have no pole at the foot end of the tent. The tent will still stand but the fly would be touching your sleeping bag at the foot end so you could put your rain jacket over your sleeping bag to protect it if the conditions are wet.
Cheers,
Dan
@@durstongear yep that'd work I don't think I'd ever lose both but one is possible. That puts my mind at ease.
I really wanted to buy this today but there isn’t a PayPal link?!?
@@durstongear Thank you! That's a big help.
Dan is rolling the best option for repacking? Also should the floor be on outside of the roll or DCF or no difference? Thanks! Just hoping to make mine last as long as possible
Rolling is the best. You can have the floor inside or inside. I roll it towards the floor to put the floor on the outside mostly because it is easier to squeeze out the air this way.
why the mesh doors consists of 2 zippers instead one?
There are a few advantages: The sliders are always at the same spot so it's easy to find in the night. It also helps the zippers last longer because going around corners puts most of the wear on the zipper, and they operate more easily one handed.
Fantastic looking tent! 😊
Wow!😮
Congrats on the launch. The 1P version looks awesome!
I have the Pro 2 on order. Just curious if the 1P and 2P will be shipping out around the same time (I’m assuming they’re shipping from the factory at the same time)?
We just got both tents here at our workshop. We'll ship the 2P first since we took those orders first, so the 2P will start shipping in a day or two, and then it'll take us a week or so to ship them all and then the 1P will ship.
Awesome thanks for the reply and good news! Super exciting!
Thanks. We like Ultra but it's much too heavy for tents. Ultra 100 is 6x heavier than DCF. Great for packs though.
@@durstongear Damn!! Didn’t know it was that heavy compare to DCF…thanks man!
Yup, gonna have to get one 😁

Hi Dan! Ordered tent in Solid version to Ukraine through local shipping company. But have one interesting question. How to setup tent in cold weather, when the ground is frozen but there is no snow and no stones either?
Nice! If the ground is frozen but no snow, then it is best to use very strong nail type stakes that you can hammer in, like this:
vargooutdoors.com/products/titanium-nail-peg
@@durstongear Thanks for advice!
Does the normal 1p also have the tension floor?
Yes it is tensioned. It a different design because the regular 1P is a doublewall, but it is still tensioned.
These appear to be great tents - I wish they were affordable for those of us over 70 and on a fixed income.
We do have our regular versions (non-Dyneema) that are less than half of the price and quite a good value for a high quality tent.
Incredibile tent! Will it be available also in Europe?
They are available exclusively through Durston Gear, shipping from Canada, to anywhere in the world.
Yes we ship from DurstonGear.com to all countries.
Hmmm - Bibbulmun, is that a teaser Dan?
I just know how awesome our Australian fans are.
Did you use Silpoly or Silnylon for the floor?
It's silnylon. I really like silpoly but the main advantage (no sag) isn't important for a floor. I was able to find a 15D nylon that is similar durability to our usual 20 poly floors but lighter. Poly doesn't come that light, so for the Pro tents as our superlight series I used that.
I set up the tent for the first time today. I'm really excited. However, there is one thing that worries me, and that is the underbody. The material seems really thin. Do sharp stones and the weight of the sleeping person really not bother the subfloor? I can already see the holes there. Is an additional tent pad recommended?
