He did it on bedrock because Java doesn’t have sculk yet
Definitely on-brand for the pun filled Hermitcraft Season 8 XD
Skulk n bulk

@Instagram User I believe you
@Instagram User treat yourself.
@Instagram User funny seeing you here
Just came back to this for reference. My friends and I are building a sculk farm soon, one that'll get us 30 levels right away. Currently, sculk blocks drop 1 xp each, so you'll need to break 1395 blocks, or just over 21 stacks (we'll say 22), so if we separate each row of sculk to create collums of 13×10×11 (that's just 6 extra sculk per collum), we'll have individual sculk collums worth 30 level each. We plan on flipping the direction, though, so the pistons are pushing the sculk blocks up towards the spawner, instead of further down. The less ladder usage, the better.
You could also use a fortune pickaxe as I believe that multiplies exp, I might be wrong though
Consider using a tnt duper above the skulk, and having it blow up above your head where you stand on a platform and water pushes the xp to you in the center
I wish we had water-loggable pistons in Java that would be a game changer
That's the hard thing , on Java u have cool extanding pistons and we have waterlocked pistons , u have TNT dupers but we don't
@@JanekB7500 Piston pushes redstone block into other piston which pushes a redstone block into another piston... etc. Should work on bedrock too
@@brawlstarsgamingv2312 ?
Question: do iron golems count as mobs that generate skull blocks when they die and if so can you somehow rig this up to an iron farm to build an afk iron farm that is also a bulk xp storage?
Now thats big brain
Good idea but due to slower respawn times that would probably lose some XP efficiency in return for being pretty huge.
I would imagine yes, they don’t take fall damage but you could rig an observer to notice the block conversion to make new stone if needed, also you would prob want a couple of farms feeding this to speed it up.
They don't drop xp, so likely not?
@GiNa RoSe Sᴇx Cʜᴀɴɴᴇʟ 21 bruh did a bot just reply

Waterlogging pistons? That could make some contraptions so much easier to make! Incredible!

you can rig it to Trident killers, sculk catalyst have quite big range, so you can get xp from Trident killers and you can have bulk stored xp
It really isn’t super complicated most of it is just hopper clocks

But Mumbo... The TNT :(

I know... he didn't add it. It's still really simple but he didn't add it...
there is no tnt duper’s in bedrock, nor are creeper farms effective, so tnt is not a option for most survival bedrock players. on java this would be smart tho, just there isn’t enough parity between editions to do it on bedrock too.
@@russellhoskins8265 There's a bedrock ghast farm that's pretty easy to build that gives like 25 stacks an hour of gunpowder

It's definitely adding more content. Very good content too, better than any mod.
Makes sense, as with each update the game gets modified.
@@PhantomOfficial07 slower than any modder though lmao
Not really, yes it feels like modded, but dont like vanilla. The last (In my opinion) vanilla update was 1.14/1.15 (1.15 is just 1.14 but with bees and still vanilla). Maybe 1.16.
@@potatowik8929 I mean, you can go pretty far back with the logic of feeling or not feeling like vanilla. Elytra were way out of vanilla when they were first introduced in 1.9. Some people might even argue slime blocks weren't very vanilla when added. Or crawling. Or detector blocks.
Using the carpet mod to extend piston range, can you make a loop that expands when it gets full and eventually have INFINITE XP STORAGE. You can also place the redstone on the pistons without breaking
you cant have the carpet mod (or any mod at all) on bedrock

For that matter, Mojang announced in 2016 that they will not be fixing qc and it will be considered a feature.
“Not that complicated” he says, you only have to construct a flux capacitor doohickey, and a hydrogen powered hyperdrive, and then you got yourself a nifty little xp farm
I've heard grian say flux capacitor so many times I though you were talking about an actual contraption
In terms of redstone this build isn't actually that difficult. Its just a few wirings to many pistons. Once you build one, you can easily build another and know what you're doing.

I need to get a tutorial/explanation for each of these circuits. I can only replicate if I understand how it works and there are a few parts that confuse the heck out of me. Definitely want this in my world tho, I can quadruplize it and put an iron farm on top

@@looneylunatic.2133 learning by doing, trial by fire. if you actually try things out and glean what you can from the video, you would be surprised what you could get to work.
The simple answer to most of the probs is observers like most of the pushing is done through observers. To be honest it is not that hard to make this but i will have to do something for those bulk piston powering
Angles seem to be the key, but the redstone repeaters will send a signal like ... 8 blocks? I think, 12? Something - but he's got those behind every piston, and a repeater at the end, and then stair stepped down for a wall. But his timing ... is amazingly TOO perfect for a 1-Off trial. I mean ... it IS MUMBO.... so there's a definite possibility that he "Just Knows" through the weirding way or some Jedi force power ... hahaha.
The clock at the beginning for the stone is the crucial point though. That's the timing for this entire bit.

the question tho: does the sculk block or the mob itself give more exp? or is it proportional to the mob's exp? in the latter case, adding this to an enderman farm would be absolutely huge!
the higher the xp the mob drops the more skulk generated so the enderdragon drops a HUGE amount
also if its a player killl you can get the skulk and the xp so double xp
It would also be harder to harvest, as enderman farms usually are built in the end
@@yak4168 not actually the mob won't give you xp the xp will be absorbed it's not fully implemented yet.
I think sculk would give more exp. A general mob kill would be like on average 5-8 exp. And 1 skulk from the video seem to be 2 and a quarter. Since it looked like the catalyst makes 3 by 3 squares of skulk. That's 2.25(3×3) = 20 bars of exp. For the farm it's the same, but only 3 skulks. Which is still 6.75. a slight lost, but a stable amount. And can be improved by increasing skulk yield.
I think its the amount the mob would give is = to the amount the sculk gives

i wonder if you could set up a way to explode the sculk blocks and use water or something to move them over to the player to fully automate the xp farm
and in java you could use tnt duping for that
imagine, in your base, having a lecturn where you can select how many levels of xp you want, this then sends a signal to your massive amount of stored skulk which then uses tnt to blow up exactly that many levels which then fall onto you. that'd be so cool
I can hear someone already working on it

How did you replicate his build from this video? He only shows a couple of angles and barely explains how the redstone works?
@@looneylunatic.2133 I just used the basic concepts and redesigned it, so for the stone generator i found another video that shows how to make one i then used an observer linked to the skulk catalyst to activate it since it can detect when the mob dies instead of a tripwire and instead of using observers and pistons to make separate lines from the 3 wide (in my case 7 wide now) sheet of skulk i made a different design that takes the sheet and condenses it into a single line of skulk for transport and bulk storage. but also i did just watched those angles a lot of times to get an idea of how the redstone worked like for the push across smart pistons and piston wall, in general i also just like to build with redstone so i was ok with the trial and error of getting it working
but also i do get that some of the concepts are a bit complex since the smart pistons take advantage of some 0 tick piston functionality that i didn't fully understand going into it and had to watch some videos to understand the concept

So now it's not only possible, but also much easier since it doesn't have to be built underground
You reminded me Minecraft is a decade old... I hate you...

@@xarfram I think the reliability went back and forth a lot across various updates, sometimes it would work great and sometimes it was pretty bad, but even at its best it was more of a novelty. Endermen xp farms are just too dang good to really compete with
I can imagine taking the skulk blocks and pushing them through a slot into an enchantment room so you never have to run to a farm when you run out of levels
The storage system is nice, but we could make this more compact, I feel.. we can probably kick up the speed by making 2+ droppers push skulk towards you with an automatic shut off when the line gets full, and just hold down the attack button until you're full on xp
The waterlogged Piston is exclusive to bedrock because of how different waterlogging works in the two versions! In java, it is a state but in bedrock it is a medium. Water (and even snow) can exist anywhere and it does not care about the presence of blocks there though only non-full blocks can be waterlogged without map editors.

Seriously, waterlog pistons, movable tile entities, A more in depth skin system, the auto-place off ledges feature, Impaling isn't useless if it's raining or under water, Cauldrons can hold potions and dyed water.
You bedrock players actually have a lot of cool features that would be so nice to see in Java. Sure, bedrock has it's issues, but it's also got a few cool things going for you.
bedrock has several features that would extremely benefit java players
@@KingTaltia I agree java kinda sucks in my opinion. Quasi connectivity is a BUG not a FEATURE 🤣🤣. Its a joke that some people will get, dont get angry plz. :)
Ah HAHA
Java is always the best for me cause we can do some cool thing experiments
The sculck spreading depends on how much XP the mob that was killed drops.
you could also add one of those auto miners in java to that and the funnel to xp to a given location
As someone who plays bedrock this makes me almost cry because of happiness
Yeah but it's hilarious because he could just use a trident killer.
Yeah same
@@revandb3438 true but if you think about it. He also made a skull block farm. Guessing you just need silk touch
@@drumbeat2014 skull ?
Why is everything grey
of all the bedrock exclusive feature there are, I was not expecting him to find a use for waterlogging pistons
They have been used for awhile in stone farms.
Tell me more of the bedrock feature, because im now curious
@@ItsEnderDiego well pistons can move tile entities like chests and furnaces.
@@jacara1981 they can't in java?
@@negofrey852 nope chests and furnaces, as well as other work stations can't be pushed by pistons in Java.
Can’t wait to see what scicraft does with this if they ever update to it
It's so cute seeing mumbo amazed by this when a zombie piglin farm does the same in 10 times the ease
If you’re ever messing around in Bedrock again, I would strongly suggest that you check out trident killers. I’d love to see if someone could rig one to a sculk farm.
i got 15 trident out 18 drowned with looting 3 diamond sword plz tell me java have same function or i am just exciting about nothing
@@Deependra_netam in what I remember, no
This could be big for my afk witch farm, as it is basically impossible to get the XP to the player the way I built it. If Skulk Catalysts can absorb XP either way, this might be a great way to keep my world from crashing during longer AFK sessions, as XP doesn‘t despawn.
Trident killers got patched
@@tallcowyt no they were fixed because it was a bug that broke them
Mumbo building a complex skulk-based XP farm in Bedrock
Bedrock Players: Should we tell him that auto smelters give infinite XP?
Well, yeah, but this is mostly transferable to java, the only feature that's really bedrock only are the waterlogged pistons
The xp stacks in the furnace forever thats the good thing
@@marilyncelis1472 not in java :/
where does one get smeltable stuff for autosmelters to smelt?
@@NoNameAtAll2 world eaters
On my 322 day hardcore world i used this and it helps enchants so much thanks a lot
Would be really cool to see you do this on Java with a TNT duper to make the collection automated too
I really hope that Bedrock and Java eventually get each others' features, it doesn't make sense to me that they are this different
The developers are pushing more than ever for parity between versions so they’ll be a lot less different as time goes by
@@snowpeagaming9116 we just have to wait 50 years and they are then almost the same
i dont think u know this but they have different codes n languages its not ez to transfer
two different engines and two different goals basically
@@sems5247 so you live under a rock and don't keep up with any minecraft news. Maybe watch some other youtubers other than mumbo? Maybe even bedrock ones.
It's important to remember that the amount of XP it gives now isn't finalized. Currently, it's a fixed amount of XP per block, but in a future version it'll be based on the amount of XP the dead mob would have dropped instead.
Still storage of XP is pretty useful on its own
just sounds like more potential to me!
ender dragon: oh noh
How will they keep track of what mobs have died? I assume if two mobs die on the same block, the xp value of that block will be the sum of what you would've gotten from each mob?
@@williamhuang8309 I think it doesn't matter what mob died on the block, I think it's more how many XP orbs landed on said block. That said I think this will be nerfed heavily before final release. Right now it seems like you get more Xp for the blocks than the mob would of dropped. I think about half the xp divided to 9 blocks would be fair. Meaning if you don't get the full 3x3 conversion you'd lose xp.
Also the bit about dropping xp if a TNT blows it up probably has to go as well. It makes it far to easy.
Welcome to the superior version
Extremely epic, idea to make it even more afk, add explosion chambers so that the skulk will be placed into this chamber and the tnt will explode and the Xp will be instantly sent to you
Mumbo’s brain is so big that he just managed to do redstone on bedrock… I feel dumb now
And yet at the end he's still called the build "it's quite simple" even us bedrock players are mind-blown
Aside from the water-logged pistons, all of the redstone he did would work the same in both bedrock and java.
(I'm a bedrock redstoner, but all of the youtubers I watch play java, so I'm fluent in both java and bedrock redstone.)
If that was in Java then mumbo would be rolling in xp on the Hermitcraft Sever he could have four running at once whilst standing on a platform in the centre.
He could have TNT dispensers to blow the Sculk up so he can just afk there and get XP.
@@PhantomOfficial07 Uhm that's what he is talking about
@@gpc8369 He never mentioned it.
@@PhantomOfficial07 Well mumbo was talking about it
It’s will be just be patient
alternative idea is set up multiple of the generators and set it up so that you can hold down left click and it will feed the blocks to you so you can afk. kinda like that scicraft ice farm
Wow, first mumbo farm that gets on shulkercraft maybe? Amazing work, it looks awesome and works perfectly!
Mumbo: Makes an AFK XP farm with sculk blocks
Trader: I spawned in the middle of the ocean hehe
"listen to me, sounding all technical and things" says Mumbo, a redstone genius
For quite a while I knew you could waterlog pistons,(and I made water towers with it) but I didn’t know you could use it for that
We have that already lol good old furnace stacking 😁
