Bonsai artists unite! Good show Jason - best wishes with the Leatherhead Club going forward!
Thanks 🙏
i started my bonsai journey about 5 years ago , and consider myself a beginner ,trying to learn as much as i can as i go along ,but living in south wales , there arent many clubs about , and i get most of my info from youtube channels , like yours ,
Thanks. I appreciate for some there may not be a “local” club.
You are soooooo lucky! There is one club here and they have fought anyone starting another club. They are sadly elitist and somewhat unfriendly to anyone not "in". I can't physically attend and they won't do any ZOOM meetings so those of us who can't drive at night can be there. I would love to be in a club. Since that isn't realistic, I watch everyone's channels and gain so much. You folks are my "club"!!
I'm so sorry to here that. The one in our area is like that too. You want to get with like minded people, and discover their mind isn't something you want to be like. May I recommend garden clubs? They are usually wonderful, and most of them have a lot of knowledge about tree care and biology, even if they don't bonsai. And sometimes you meet people who want to try bonsai, so you have your own little niche group.
@Hollylivengood thank you. That's a good suggestion!
Thanks. Egos can get in the way, and this kind of unwelcoming mentality helps no-one. 🤗
Loved this video Jason!
Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much, Jason for coming along to our grand opening of Leatherhead Bonsai Club and thank you for the interview of me and Lee and enjoying the evening and thank you for sharing. Hope to see you all soon. ❤(Dave)
I had a great night and very much enjoyed the whole trip to visit you guys and support this cause.
Wishing @Dave.and.Lees.Bonsai and the Leatherhead Bonsai Club every success ❤xx
I chuckled to myself when Lee said " I 've gone from a couple of trees to about 60 tree"! I would say, knowing bonsai people that is quite a conservative number. 😊😊😊
😂😂😂
Benefits from my bonsai club:
Free trees
Free supplies
These freebies cost: yearly club subscription (70 euros) and 1 euro for a raffle ticket.
Absolutely worth it!
😄
Nice one, Jason. Going to local bonsai meetings is super helpful. Especially getting to talk to people in my own area who understand dealing with the trees in my own climate. Everyone is always so happy to help!
Yes, this is my experience too. And I give away my surplus or unwanted trees.
Great video Jason, and congrats to Dave and Lee on their successful club start!
Thanks 🙏
It's strange seeing you guys out of your own space, but it sounds like fun.
It was a great night, and a pleasure to spend time with Alex and Xavier (and Darren of Meadowview Bonsai) on the trip down and overnight on the outskirts of London. Followed by a frosty trip to Herons Bonsai the next day.
I started bonsai during the pandemic, joining 3 local clubs and quickly becoming an executive of the largest. In the pandemic we provided lots of online content such as digital meetings. In the years since we have transitioned back to almost entirely in person programming. These "local clubs" are still 2 and 3 hrs away and I've been essentially pushed out of participating in two of them the majority of the time (weeknight meetings don't work at this distance). No anger, just feeling the impacts of some decisions that did not go my way.
Thanks Kale. Sorry to hear your experiences. 🙏
Thank you Jason's for the new video, and thank you for sharing your experiences.
Thanks 🙏
Really enjoyed this Video Jason was a nice watch
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome video Jason loved it 👊👊
Thanks Andy. I loved that laugh when you talked about go big or go home. Finally catching up with you in person was one of the highlights for me.
@ arrr thanks Jason right back at you mate.
I like to wing it Jason 😂😂😂
Nicely presented Jason :)
Thanks Xavier 🙏
We have one bonsai club in our area, and it was terrible. The members really were "members," and I just don't need that. I do bonsai because the trees are so inspiring when I feel like a loser. So my information comes from books and gardening groups, which are huge here. Tennessee has some real artists in a garden, and all of them love their trees, they just don't bonsai, but they are knowledgeable about every other aspect of trees.
Thanks. The culture of bonsai clubs really is set by its members who should try to be welcoming and encouraging.
Hi Jason ,I'm new to bonsai my second year my nearest club is Ipswich an hour drive , silly question but when you first turn up at a club do you just go and try an watch or do you take a couple of trees and ask if someone can show you how to trim or shape I don't want to look stupid just walking in on everyone
Thanks Dave for your reply , I ask as some people have said that clubs that they went to got a nill response and it was clicky and not welcome
@@stevebattle687 to be honest , it can be like that at most clubs , of all types until you show up a few times and others know your there to stay , good luck
Entirely up to you. Some members, like myself yesterday, turned up to chat and watch a demo. But other times I take trees to work on, discuss or get opinions. You won’t look stupid. Just show interest and ask the members about their trees, and experience and you will be most welcome .
Does anyone know what cultivar the maple is @10:02?
I couldn’t say for certain.
@TheBonsaiGarden it's beautiful! This was spring color or fall color?
@@Mike-bj1hm there's over 3500 named cultivars of Japanese maple. It's beautiful but there's just so many to choose from!
I’m in a club in California called Santa Cruz bonsai Kai
👍
👍👌🙂
