Yes, I also had that problem when I turned off my fridge. Another solution is to spray it with Tilex but I should probably open it and let it dry rather than using harsh chemicals.
Mold is what happens in turned off fridge. Door need to be propped open. And stay that way or leave it running You’ll only have one instapot until you accidentally leave it home, you’re on a trip and can’t stand not having it
Best thing for keeping mold from not growing in your refrigerator is get a box of baken soda and leave it in there. Removes moisture and keeps it fresh. That should hopefully take of the problem Amber. Once again enjoy your post.
𝑨 𝑻𝑰𝑷 𝑭𝑶𝑹 𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑭𝑶𝑹 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑭𝑹𝑰𝑮! If you aren’t going to use the frig, after you clean it put some coffee in a sock, tie it off and put it in the frig. No mold will grow and it will smell good like coffee. We did this when we shipped our frig from the states to Panama. It took at least two months to get our household goods and the frig was clean and mold free when it arrived. It was a good idea.
One learns fairly quickly that when you live in 2 homes, you need to clean the one you’re leaving if you don’t want to come back to the dirt from your last use.
I think it's wonderful that u can travel in your van and have your apartment to come back to. Having the best of both worlds. Safe travels. Looking forward to the next video.✨💖✨
Put your bike inside the apartment just to be safe. Even if it's a nice place/area you never know. Have fun on your trip 👏😁 Love the balance of apartment and Van life adventures.
Unless your RV is connected to electricity, you must leave the door open. If you close the door, it’s guaranteed to grow mold. Good luck on the new way of living for you. I have always felt like this way of RVing was the best fit for you , but felt like you had to make that decision by yourself since this is a uTube channel and there might be other things in the background I didn’t know about. Have fun on your future travels❣️
We are not full timer rv-ers so maybe this is part of your new learning curve but we make sure to completely clean our rig after each trip. That way we can jump in and be on our way quickly the next time we travel. If we don’t clean it first, the surprises are bountiful. Oh and, like everyone else, we leave the fridge ajar. Airflow baby!
Remember to remove the batteries fr9m flashlights, walkie-talkie etc remote controls and store them with the devices sandwiches bags and tape is good to prevent corrosion in your devices.
Mold can happen if your fridge was on and left closed up. Make sure you leave the door open when you are back home so you don't have condensation build up. Looking forward to your travels! Happy Camping!! You are the best! Laurie
Even a household refrigerator will mold if the door isn't left open to get air when not in use , so it's okay just do a little cleaning and let it air also put a box of baking soda in there it'll absorb any moisture and odors
I always remove everything from the refrigerator and keep the door open in between trips this helps eliminate the mold, and wipe down the shelves it could be a quick Clorox wipe down but just enough to clean any food/liquid it will mold as well.
Hi Amber... I've been thinking of you as the frigid ice storms engulf Houston and other areas of Texas. I hope you're safe and warm and being mindful of yourself and those you love there. Sending you a big hug my friend.
Aloha Amber !!!! Finally made the permanent move to the Waikiki area of Oahu the other day. Getting adjusted to the area again. I’m so happy to finally be home in Hawaii. Keep on Story Chasing living the dreams and accomplishing them one moment at a time. Hugs from Deb now in Hawaii

Amber welcome to the wonderful world of part time RVing. It doesn't matter how clean the fridge is, if you turn it off you need to prop it open. Otherwise there will always be mold. We keep doubles of everything in our fifth wheel including condiments/spices ( removed of course during winter storage). Even then it's still a tiresome task to load up for a mere weekend trip. Can't wait till we go full-time where the packing/unpacking madness can come to an end.
Hey Amber....I'll have to sign on to the next Bootcamp.....I've been very, very busy with work (which I hope to quit sometime soon). Glad to see you have a home base, but always eager to see you hit the road as well. I need to take my Travato for some maintenance to NIRVC then hopefully hit the road this Spring.
Hi, Amber! Can I suggest that (unless you have a private garage) you box your worthwhile van items and take them inside your home? I'd hate to see one of your forthcoming videos headlined by " I was robbed".....Have a happy!
thank you for discussing this as a Floridian i would never do van life long term mold and moisture is one big reason i don't think van lifers take this seriously i lived in a tiny house ADU on a body of water that had an improperly installed AC window unit IT GOT BLACK MOLD and my dream tiny home on the river quickly became a nightmare i am so glad i was renting and could leave mold is a real problem in a tiny space
I just got my body groove DVD 😄. I love to dance and my dog also passed so I don’t go out walking any more plus it’s been too cold to go out. So body groove looks like fun and uplifting. Have fun
You cannot leave your fridge or freezer door closed when it is not in use-- it will do just what you found or get a funky smell that you can't get out -- must leave it propped open I use towels
Amber, which you probably all ready know😊 since you decluttered your van using wicker baskets as storage containers are helpful so the items don't move around inside cupboard space as you drive😊
This was great! I am actually just a vacation RVer, but this video makes me want to pull everything out and restock it for my next trip. Thanks for sharing!
So exciting....I love the homebase videos as much as the van videos. What a great job you did cleansing the rig. You should feel accomplished. What a nice feeling.❤
That’s a lot of stuff! Can’t believe you were under weight! Managing the weight on our class C (Mercedes sprinter chassis) was always a huge challenge. Hope you have a fun trip!
You should wear mask around black mould & when using any strong cleaners….protect lungs? 😷. Maybe you can use water with few drops of vanilla essence to make fridge smell fresh 😁 Adventure bound with very clean & organised Van…travel safely! 😍🍻🇦🇺
Lol welcome to the world of non-full time RV/Van life. When the batteries get low shtuff happens. Like fridge mold. Make sure you turn the master switch off or your chassis battery will die too. Oh the joys. Be safe. The weather is weird lately
It's awesome to see you getting back out there again and going traveling. Like the idea of having a home base to come back to. Have fun going to Padre Island. Going to Rockport in July when it's nice and hot. Need to go to Rockport there is a place called City by the sea and a restaurant called crab n and it is so good
Vinegar is the best for removing mould. Bleach just discolours it - it doesn't remove. The smell goes away pretty quickly. I also use Eucalyptus spray the smell disappears as well. Fridge I have learned is best left open regardless how well it is cleaned.
hello I love your Van and its lived in and I feel 100% of what you mean when you need to decluter. Ron Sees America sent me over your way and I will be back to see much much more
Use equal parts vinegar and hydrogen peroxide on the mold. Bleach can actually help feed it. Also be careful that you don't disperse the spores into the air as you clean, as they'll take up residence in other places.
@@Marie.b we're talking about mold, not bacteria. Indeed, chlorine bleach (not color-safe bleach, which can contain hydrogen peroxide) does help feed mold by leaving moisture behind, primarily in wood or soft surfaces. Vinegar combined with the peroxide is affective, not by itself, necessarily.

Hello Amber , I just love your van , can’t wait till u camp :-) glad your happy again :-) my secret dream would be to learn from u how to live this life :-) it’s just a dream for now .
So, I was in a Tom Thumb grocery store in Dallas yesterday and I saw a young lady that looked familiar. I do not live in the metroplex but I do get my hair cut in Dallas. I could not figure out how I might know this girl. Then I realized she looked like you! I tried to find her in the store for a second look but couldn’t. Was it you? I purposely have not said the area just in case it was you.
I’m just looking at your Berkie Water filter. Do you let that dry out when you’re not using it? I would imagine it can develop some mold too when not in use.
I use a magnet stuck to the fridge to keep the door from fully closing. Problem solved. The humidity in the air will grow mold, especially where it is warm and the door stays closed. Bike tires leak over time. Try new inner tubes. You can have them filled with a sealing product called Slime. It stops leaks from happening in the first place. It is used a lot on motorcycles and ATVs..
We had mold like that after we evacuated for hurricane sally. The refrigerator can be cleaned up. Leave the door cracked when you are not traveling /driving. We also leave a small cup of baking soda in it 24/7. Remove before traveling. Maybe you could put it in plastic container with lid and poke some holes in it. You don’t want it to spill over.
Traveled from May 2015 to Dec 2021. Live in our 30 ft 5th wheel. Resently sold her and brought a smaller trailer. Can hardly wait to go on first trip

Hi pretty lady. How are you doing today? And how is the weather over there??
