The Danes were a monster of a squad from the mid-80's to the early 90's. They were a beautiful hybrid of German football and the Dutch Total Football of the early 70's. A true machine.

But Germany were strong team in WC 1986 and they reached to final game as they took the seconth place after Champion Argentina with big legend Maradonna at that times.Germany beat many strong teams in WC 1986 as Morocoo , Mexico and France ,much respect to German team at 80s ,they reached Final game too.

That Danish team was such a delight to watch. It's amazing how that Danish team just cut through one of the best defenses in the world. Unfortunately they couldn't keep it up and completely crashed out vs Spain. The Germans played pragmatic and ended up with easy opponents, so they made the final.

Teams who win tournaments or do well are those that play cautious, disciplined football and are never complacent. Denmark were anything but.

Søren Lerby was the big star at Bayern Munich. With Matheus that competed about the same position sometimes.
Lerby was a "After me" type, who made the game of Bayern. Quite a character. Also in one year made the second best goal of the year. With 35 meter longshoot. He was highly respected in Germany, even made him the manager after wards. But he was not trained as a trainer and it failed.
I have forgotten how intense that game really was.
Denmark who came with no expentation into the endgame, apparently with one wish, to beat the Germans. Was also quite inexperienced with endgames, they were critic for put all energy on one game after they got beaten
by Spain. Which they proberly had to much respect for, since they lost in 1984 against them. They called them "The evil spirit" that they cant beat.

Rumours said that Germany deliberately lost to Denmark because they knew that by coming second they'd come up against Morocco , who won their group the previous day, in the second round and after that the winners of Bulgaria Vs Mexico which was a fairly easy passage to the semi finals....and so it proved.

The danish coach was German and would do anything to beat Germany. The rumour about the german defeat is very known in Denmark, but the Germans did anything they could to score, so the rumour might be fake. Since the match took place, two danish players have passed away, John Eriksen died in 2002 and dec 8 2021 the goalkeeper Lars Hoegh passed away.
@@peterskdtmortensen9093 Whatever the German intentions were I'm sure they weren't crying at the end of this game and were almost certainly upbeat knowing who came next. Denmark on the other hand became naive and complacent.

The penalty againest Germany were unfair with respect to Denmark were very strong in 1986
And goal Laudrup scored should have stood. He was not in offside, linesman called it on player who was not involved in a play.

@@sermedbayati2117 Not saying referee was good, but Denmark deserved that win. Laudrups goal should have counted so if you take penalty away it is still 2-0 Denmark.

Sepp Piontek made a big mistake here allowing his players' natural desire to beat the Germans to overcome what must have been his better judgement. The Danes wanted to rub the Germans noses in it because of World War Two but all they did was give themselves a far more difficult path to the final. Had Denmark lost and gone the way of West Germany they could have reached the final.
Well I remember this strong game between two strong teams , but Germany played very great and deserved at less a one goal with respect to Denmark otherwise Germany reached to final match and they beat Morocco, Mexico and France,then they took the second place in world cup 1986 , much respect to that very great old team Germany 1980-1990.
German sengaja mau kalah kepada Denmark supaya tidak bertemu dengan Sepanyol yang pernah mengalahkan mereka.
