Could be one of the best games in world cup history but imo even better commentary with an exciting tone and power, especially when there's a clear chance or a goal. No ridiculuous trivia, elaborate comments, just commentating the game simple and loud when necessary. So loved it...
The was Canadian commentary--believe it or not--featuring Steve Armitage and Graham Leggatt.
lookup the flemish version with Rik de Saedelaer , a tremendous commentator. He was a real statement in belgiums television commentators, it's not in english but the passion will get you every time ⚽

@@slavablinkov5355 Да, действительно, с этого ракурса не видно был ли оффсайд в момент передачи и тем не менее десятилетиями ходит басня о "двух голах бельгийцев из явного оффсайда."Но существует видео с немного другого ракурса, где четко видно расположение игроков при первом голе в момент передачи (второй гол остается спорным). Это видео "почему-то" никогда не демонстрировалось в СССР и постсоветских странах, где повторяют сказку про "два явных оффсайда", хотя оффсайдов не видно. Скажу тебе больше - существует WAR первого гола: Бессонов на полметра ближе к воротам чем Шифо. Если бы это действительно было тебе нужно ты нашел бы все это за пять минут.

A fabulous game, from a fabulous World Cup. I love this flowing, end-to-end, shoot on sight, football - so much more entertaining than the tedious, possession based, tika-taka that often passes for football today. Also, these games were played in fierce Mexican Summer heat, often at high altitude - so the level of intensity is amazing. The Soviets were such an exciting team to watch with Rats and Belanov - and Belgium had Enzo Scifo, one of the finest midfielders of all time.

@@michealkelliher8428 Yes exactly. Sergei Aleinikov spoke about this in detail in his book (he participated in this World Cup, neutralized Platini in the game with France. It was Platini who later contributed to Aleinikov’s transfer to Juventus).
I agree with you in some ways, however if you were to re-watch entire matches, you would notice that many are actually played in a slow pace, even pedestrian, largely due to the heat you mention but also because football moved around slower in then compared to now, but even Argentina vs France in WC 2018 for example, is highly entertaining in highlights, but there are many phases of the match where it is just being kicked around.

The thing is that it's not clear to see if they were really offside and there were probably not enough cameras in those days that would make a decision indisputable.
The third Belgian goal for example, it could be that he was offside but the ball traveled a very long distance, kind of like Van Pesie's goal vs Spain, if you saw only the very last bit, you would think Van Persie was offside when he headed the ball, but he well onside when he started his run.

В совке не вели ночных трансляций, можно было только послушать радиотрансляцию (последние 15 минут) по Маяку. И я (тогда малой) закрылся в туалете и слушал час (концовку основного и дополнительное), а потом плакал. А вечером смотрел в записи по первой программе и надеялся, что ночью это был кошмар и небылица, а сейчас наши выиграют😀

Players evidently had no grasp of neither man marking nor zonal marking in those days, the amount of time and space being offered is almost ridiculous. It made for some entertaining, end to end, open football, and with all due respect, quite similar to how many women's football matches are played now.
That’s why I watch so much women’s football these days. It reminds me of the football I was watching in my youth. But this is a preference I do not tend to share with others. I don’t think they would understand…

Ese juego me da la sensación de algo muy caliente y tierno, directamente tocando la Vida real.. Era una parte de vida, de historia. Y eso que no pertenezco a aquella época en ningún caso, mas.. Es tan real, no falso ;) De todo hecho, puedo decir que la comercialización excesa entierra la Vitalidad de vida - así como lo hace otro lado: la igualización excesa. One of the greatest matches in WC football history. Although the refereeing was sketchy and embarrassingly one-sided, you cannot take anything away from the footballers on both sides.
Rinat Dassaiev and Jeam-Marie Pfaff: two world class keepers. They showed why here. Dassaiev was let down by his Defense, sadly.

Point no 1 from someone who watched almost all of the matches of the tournament: this was NOT the best World Cup ever. Not all of the games were as entertaining as this one, there were a lot of duds, mostly because of the excruciating heat (games were played at 12 o’clock so that they were watched in prime time in Europe) and the fact that a lot of the star players (Zico, Socrates, Rumennigge etc) were near the end of 5heir careers.
Point no 2 regarding this match. It was 1986, the height of the Cold War. Does anyone here over 40, honestly believe that the leading country of the communist world were going to win the World Cup? This could NEVER happen. The fact that the Soviet Union played the best football in the tournament is irrelevant. Just imagine that VAR existed back in the day. How many of Belgium’s goals you think would have counted?
