I’m still trying to figure out how I like to do these little reset videos best, but for this one we’re just going through some things I wanted to get done before 2024 comes into play. We get some cleaning done, I get my lash extensions filled, there’s reading, of course, and we start using the 2024 planners I bought! Yay I love your goals! I also do 52 books a year goal but with a hard stop at 60. I’m not a content creator so I noticed I CAN read more than that but it isn’t good for me. I want to be intentional about what I read and if I regularly read more than one book a week I neglect other areas of my life, so I try to make it balanced :) more isn’t always better

I think used books will be my go to if I want to buy ones I’ve read!
I’m starting a rule that I have to test new-to-me authors at the library before buying a new-release hardcover book. I’m allowing myself to buy backlist paperbacks from authors I already like, and also nostalgic middle grade because the storage and decision-making is different for those categories.
Sounds like a good plan!!
My reading goal for 2024 is to read all my books on my tbr, which is around 50-60, I’ve only read 1 book so far, but I’m hoping that when my mental health is better, I’ll fly through books. I would also love to use my library card more & my kindle more, instead of buying so many books 📚 physically. ☁️

I hope everyone had an amazing 2023! 2024 is gonna be great. For me, my goals are to just read more in general and not scroll on my phone for hours and hours.
I literally was cleaning while watching this vlog Olivia. So me and you are on the same boat in terms of deep cleaning.
What you said about buying a book to have as a trophy is so spot on. When I first embarked on my journey into minimalism, I read something about how people only have books/bookshelves in their homes because they consider the books they read to be part of their personality, so it's kinda like... slapping a bumper sticker on your car. Like, for myself, I identified at the time as a Dean Koontz super fan, and I had to have all of his hardbacks. But the thing is... I don't reread books. If I'm not going to reread or refer back to something, why do I need to own it? Whether I own/display a book or not doesn't change the fact that I read it or loved it. It also helped to imagine the people who would buy my used books and fall in love with the stories... Like, I felt like hanging onto them just for the sake of owning them wasn't worth it. I still love the aesthetic of home libraries, but I'm semi-content admiring yours from afar while owning no physical books myself.
I also went on a book ban this year, I've been to five places that sell books this year and haven't bought a single one yet! I've picked some up, carried them around but I put them back! (Did I go feral the last five days of 2023 because I knew the ban was coming up? Yes. I bought 22+ books while I was out of state.)
i fully agree that there's something different about a new years resolution! i just need to remember i don't have to limit myself to goal setting in january only 😂 i wrote out what i wanted my life to look like and am trying to work backwards from there. i set goals for the next few months to start getting me there because a lot of the stuff involves a lottt of baby steps.

I have the opposite clothes goal lol. I never ever ever buy clothes for myself, I use my husbands shirts, I have 2 pairs of jeans, and I only wear crocs lol. I’m definitely trying to get my style back on track cuz you know, look good feel good. I have DREADED dressing myself for occasions this year cuz I know I don’t have any clothes/cohesive outfits. Lol

Olivia! I love that you have found the love of the library! I love my library and this year I did an experiment of every book I got from the library and how much everything cost whether that be a physical book, ebook or audio book and I have saved over $1000 just by using the library!

I'm also doing a low buy year in 2024! I've been becoming more and more minimalist. I just don't like having a lot of belongings it stresses me out. I just need my environment to be simple or I freak out lol but I also do have things I buy that I don't need. 1. Bags, Purses, pouches (literally I do not need more than 7 Purses thats ridiculous. 2. Books, I listen to 99% of the books i read. 3. Notebooks/ to do lists! I have so many.
So everytime I'm going to go buy something this year, I'm going to ask myself, do I want this more than I want to travel the world? Mainly goal to go to Switzerland this summer! Answer is no lol so I won't buy it!

I'm with you on the book buying ban. My theme for 2024 is Sequel & Eat Well - meaning reading way more of the sequels I own and also stop eating so much crap 😆

The way joining the online bookish sphere birthed the consumer in me 😂 it was insane the number of books I was buying. Then I became a bookseller and it exploded even more. Like the first 6 months, I probably bought atleast a dozen books a month not including all the subscriptions. Then I tried to get myself down to one book per paycheck (which ended up being 2 books per paycheck but still better). In 2023, I got a job at a library and so I’ve been reading a lot more from the library which has been great for my wallet 😂 but I feel like I’ve also had to put a little distance between me and the online bookish world which has helped but is also a little sad 😂 that being said, I’ve noticed a trend of people being even more committed to buying less books this year and a lot of people are saying they want to read more backlists than ever. I feel like people are slowly moving back towards their pre Covid reading habits. But that’s just a guess 😊to make a long comment even longer 😂, my goals for 2024 are to save more money (enough to move), stop buying collections of things (I always need to have a spring, summer, fall, winter version of everything so I want to stop that 😂), and some health related goals that are just “if you’re a little better than last year, you win!”. I still haven’t decided on reading goals. Since I quit bookselling (which I loved doing with my whole heart) I’ve enjoyed looking at books as more of a fun thing and less of a requirement for work so part of me wants to be that person that sets 1 book as their goal but also, I like setting it at 100 so we’ll see 😂
Lastly, I feel like every time you mention your partner, they’re the same as me and my partner. I’m the dishes one and he’s the laundry one 😂
Oh also I’m starting my masters in library science, so my goal is to get A’s 😂

I'm also focusing on my physical tbr for this year! It's currently at 167 and I really want to get it down. I have gone through the 2024 releases I'm most excited for and have so far placed a reserve at my library for all the jan-march ones, and for most of them I'm first in the queue! I'm also making a rule that I can only buy a book once I have read 5 I already own. In 2023 of the 77 books I read only 5 were ones I owned, so really need to work on that. The exception will be if I find secondhand copies of books I've given 5 stars. Because most of my reading in the past few years has been library books or arcs that I get through work and have to return, I want to start collecting my favourite reads so that I have them to look back on. My final goal is to be intentional about unhauling books if I didn't enjoy reading them. I'll keep them if they were a solid 4 or above, but anything below that I'll aim to get rid of to make room on my shelves!

@@oliviareadsalatte It's so satisfying - especially when the library version comes in before the official release day! Also takes lots of the pressure off not enjoying a book - I can just return it guilt free for someone else to enjoy instead of forcing myself to read it to make the money worth it!
I am also going on a strict book buying ban but I do have gift cards that I want to use. But I’m prioritizing my owned unread books and I am trying not to focus much on making TBRs and just picking up what I want to read.
I am also going on a no buy/limited buy for books next year aside from Fairyloot plus the new Fourth Wing and SJM books theres nothing I'm that excited for that i need to own it right away. I am running out of space and i don't read fast enough to keep up. I'm lucky that i can get almost every single book i could ever want from my library so i plan to use it!

When I see a book from you or other book girlies, I check my library and Libby. Most of the time, I don't want to buy the books.
Of course the special editions look pretty but the spines don't show on the shelves. No buy unless I want to re-read them. Audible has goos sales, too.
What gets me from booktube, they keep books that are pretty. Not favorites but for aesthetic. Like, you can get more books if people unhaul. Thats more realistic. Agree to disagree. Happy new years!

I was wild with my book buying in 2020-2021. Just boxes getting delivered full of them. Didn’t read half of them and donated most of them last year. I’m trying to be in my Scrooge McDuck era this year when it comes to buying “little treats” constantly lol.
Love this! I am trying to read my own books as well. I’m not going on a book buying ban, but I’m just being very intentional about the books I want to buy vs just read from the library/libby.

I canceled my Adult Fairyloot and signed up for Aardvark this year instead. So now I have both BOTM and Aardvark that I can skip whenever I want all year. I won't get "pretty" books but it will be cheaper and easier to decide what I can get from the library.
I'm also an artist...so I can make my own pretty books if I really want to.

I've only gotten a December 2023 book and just ordered January. They are a smaller company than BOTM, so they probably have less sponsor money for unboxings. The shipping is a little slower, but that doesn't bother me. Their picks seem to be closer to what I do like or want than BOTM so far.
