Dave has a great personality yet retains a humility that is refreshing. What I really like is that he gives you that release from thinking that you have to have a £2000 guitar - great to have one if its what you want and you have shed loads of spare cash, but for the rest of us it's great to see someone who will take a vintage V100 or V6 and just show that you can still sound great.

You do realize the Blues Driver is from Japan- right? Boss isn't an American company. Or are you saying it sounds like Fender? I disagree, it doesn't sound like any of the Fender amps I'm familiar with. Fender amps have a compression that's very distinguishable- the blues driver doesn't. Green never had the same Marshal tone that Clapton used- tbh I don't care for Marshal but that's just a personal preference- never liked the "crunchy" tone everyone else seemed to love about them. Phew, I already own these pedals so no drain on the wallet today! I really enjoy these pedal demos with Dave trying to sound like someone! He also seems to really know what he's talking about, never mind being a great player!
Hi 😆 Please try Tone City Nobleman or, if available the original Nobels ODR into the Sweet Cream, fattens the sound without the huge mid hump. My favourite dynamic blues sound. Cheers 😆
I had a Blues Driver on my pedal board for years, playing in a covers band it could do a decent job of such a wide range of tones. Rock solid dependability too.
I keep wondering why no one is doing a clone of the blues driver- seems like a no brainer. It's up to about 125 now used and it's a fairly simple circuit that's been around for years so- you know they can clone it if they want to. None of the legit makers- JHS, Wampler, EHX, etc. will clone a pedal that's still available- I get that but, there are plenty of foreign manufacturers out there that are usually more than willing- Mosky, Caline, Joyo, etc . But as of yet- I haven't seen a clone- at least not one anyone they're admitting. Usually, even if they don't say it out right- they hint around at it until you get the point. Joyo's phaser for instance- they keep talking about how it nails those "Van Halen" tones, it's orange, and it has one knob- it's a MXR P90 clone. They could just make a blue over drive pedal- wouldn't matter what they called it- everyone would know.
Every person that plays guitar has their own tone it's just the feel that each of us has when we play we can emulate but we could never create the exact same tone. Peter Green is the best blues guitarist to come out of England in the respect that he sounds the most authentic of the players from the USA. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac was the best band to come out of England in the blues genre.
Dave is THE inspiration for me getting back into guitar after way too long. You also owe him a curry or two Lee, as I've bought two guitars from Andertons because of him :)
I played with Peter Green in the mid eighties, it was his Birthday Bash at his local club in south London, one of his mates asked our band to play Albatross, after our rendition we recieved a hearty appreciation from his friends, then asked if he could do the number again with us, I had no idea I had played Albatross in front of the guy who wrote it, did not know him at all. He was presented a Fender Stratocaster, and turned to me and said in a most humble way, I will show you how to play this number in open chords after you end your set tonight, which he did, I was so nervous now, I were shaking, but he just played it in the same key, I played the backing, he turned to me to do some lead guitar but I declined. Think his mates wanted him to play it anyway.
Dave is a brilliant guitarist. I get great pleasure from listening to him playing. A very informative video about the late legend, Peter Green. The rendition of The Green Manalishi, blew me away.
Peter Green is the best blues improviser there was. I just don't know anyone who can play how he did, only BB King (but kind of different). It was a touch of genius, powered by his humility. The real hero of less is more!

Thanks for the video here, Dave , you got the finger vibrato goin on , not many people get this, Peter made me want to play guitar when i was 14, I saw Fleetwood Mac in Detroit when i was 16, Peter was there, the next year, they come to town, i go to the show, No Peter, i thought where is he? Then they played their new Album Kilnhouse, that i love, But i must say, back in the day, Danny Kirwin was a big part of that sound and playing, Always love to hear you play, and see what is up your sleeve next, Cousin Figel
Great, fun and inspiring video again, thanks! Andertons' videos are the new/next generation Andy Demos :-) And then, let my old eyes see the day The Captain Meets Bill Steer! 🎸🎸🎸
Now THAT was A LOT of fun, even though I was basically just witnessing two mates playing around in their man-cave. I'm fine with that. Hadn't heard Peter Green had died. Bless. RIP.
Peter Green played with feeling- Dave does too which is why he's able to nail it -pedals can help but ultimately will only get you close-ish. Whilst the Cream probably was the closest here, the BD 2 would likely be a more flexible pedal for other sounds. The Glove was super close too. Would love to see Dave and Pete trading licks -make it happen
Give it up for that good old sweet cream!..👏👏👏👏Definately the ONE. Amazing sound for an amazing price!. I'm gonna pick one up. Cheers guys, that was awesome. 🙏✨
Dave is the MAN!! nails it yet again!! Totally agree with his picks as well. The sweet cream had it all in a simple package and had some lovely dynamics. The Blues Driver was close and I suspect is a more versatile jigger but with the selected settings it sounded almost too focused (maybe with more of a play you'd get where you wanted to be though. The JHS Reverb was insanely good!! (as you'd expect from someone who makes such great pedals). Dave is the icing on the cake, he can make any old rubbish rig sound amazeballs! The amp and guitar here are far from rubbish but he just makes it all sound so expensive LOL.
What a internet crossover. Hope you are well Dave. I wired my neck to do some out-of-phase with a push pull pot. Makes a slight difference even when not in the middle.
My congrats go out to the Captain, I think he is a very good presenter and host, making every video a pleasure to watch, because the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. Keep on going guys 👌🏼
I keep coming back to listen to this video and hear how amazing Dave's tone is with 2 cheap pedals, a dead-sounding amp, and ceramic pickups. We've all been guitar-gear-industry lied to lol.
Jeez, it really hits when you see how wimpy the guitar sounds without the pedals lol. It's almost like a switch from beginner guitarist to a virtuoso. So much versatility in the expression and punch. Picks up all the little details. Really shows the value of even just a couple of decent pedals. I am probably going to have to get the Sweet Cream now. It is one of the more affordable pedals out there.
Just remember the amp was set totally clean, at the beginning of the video Dave played straight into the amp and got a great tone. Pedals are nice but EQ settings and fingers are where tone comes from.
In the mid '70's I used to visit Our Price Records regularly in Richmond listening to whatever new cool music was out, and frequently there was this guy hanging around in the corner, looking very dishevelled and playing with his massive long fingernails, probably 2 or 3 inches long.......I didn't pay much heed to him at the time but when I relayed this story to a friend in the late '80's he said " Oh yes, that was Peter Green everyone knew that that was where he used to hang out!" Such a tragedy but at least he managed to rescue his later years and enjoy his music again....I remember crowding round the record player at school and just being thrilled by the sustain on The Supernatural, RIP the genius that was Peter Green.
I was watching a documentary on Peter Green's comeback and when he played at the folk and blues festival there was an Andertons banner behind the band on stage!
I enjoyed this so much. Great tone. The Rusty Fuzz that wasn't right for the Peter Green tone, but DOES do a fair imitation of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky"
I will buy an instrument from the andertons because they had Dave Simpson on. He is a jewel of a human being.
isnt he just? j'adore le dave!

Dave Simpson + Orange Super Crush is the best combination since peanutbutter & jelly!
I have the Super Crush 100 and the Mad Professor pedal the Sweet Cream is based on. It really is magic through that amp
Awesome playing Dave! That dry sound when testing reverbs, though.... I don't think I've ever ran for a glass of water quicker. Thanks, guys ;)
The episode we were all waiting for. Great job, guys!
Dave is the rain man of guitar and guitar players and their gear. Guy is talented as hell but you can tell he earned it
One of my favorite people and favorite players. Dave Simpson.
Dave is a wonderful person and musician.
the best one yet for sure! well done dave that british blues was sublime
Dave is the greatest. That is all.
Great playing, and pretty spot-on Peter Green tone to my ears. Well done guys! 👍🏻
Yes Dave Simpson is awesome, like to see more of him
Awesome playing from Dave .....32 minutes and 19 seconds of my life....Well spent ..!! ...Another great vid...:-))
I'm really enjoying this series, I'd love to see it venture outside the blues side of things every now and then though.
Brilliant stuff as always. . Peter Green is so missed.
Tone to start at 0:00 had me at my knees!!
That beautiful Orange sound. 😍😍
Yessss was waiting for this one!
Dave Simpson is a great feature.....love all the tones
He’s got him down 👏👏
I enjoyed this so much. Great tone. The Rusty Fuzz that wasn't right for the Peter Green tone, but DOES do a fair imitation of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky"
