I've gotta say this was very nice watching you make light of this mission. I'm doing a replay of the entire game on Hard and have completed Atreides (because their easiest) and now I'm doing Ordos & Hark at same time, doing both A & B missions when they I can. This gives me hope, and really helps me understand a different play style than my own. Very cool, keep doing more if you can!
SUPER TIP: if you want to build cheap harvesters: build a refinery, wait the harvester deploys, and sell the building. You will spend $1500 on the refinery, but after selling, the harvester costed you $750 instead of $1.200!!
You do not get the cash for the harvester when you sell a refinery. Let's say a harvester costs 1 500 credits on Hard difficulty (same as from heavy factory) and the refinery costs 1 875. From selling the refinery you get 187 credits => (1875-1500)/2. Check your balance while selling.
I remember plaing this mission when I was ~9. I was able to survive the initial attack by ignoring concrete and building trikes, quads, and walls to attack the waves in pieces. Then built into turrets. It wasn't as good.
2021! The point is to build up economy and rocket turrets to the point of withstanding attacks, then it's easy surfing. This guy is very good at micro, so he needs only a couple. A less skilled player probably needs more. Also the strat with building and selling refineries gives you free soldiers to use as meat shield/bait and harvesters without blocking the vehicle queue. Anyway, the final Atreides mission is far worse, when the AI builds a ridiculous amount of units in his forward bases from the very beginning, while you are too busy defending. A double line of turrets and a crapton of sonic tanks was barely able to stop them.
Yes, on OpenRA they Attack since 40 sec til I kill em, but still eazy for me, even on hard. I Laki playing 1v4, it's fun and you have to realy play, not just stand here and waiting
I've just been kinda hard committing to getting more basic units before building the static defenses. Kinda not very reliable, as it sometimes works and sometimes completely backfires, but it feels a lot safer most of the time.
I never figured out the exact reason why, but after hours of playing you just discover that it gets rid of the "silos needed" problem. If you click on one of your refineries while full, then open starport menu and buy & sell a unit multiple times (MCV because it's most expensive, taking only a few clicks to empty all refineries, as opposed to 100 with trikes) the game takes the money from your refinery deposits but doesn't put them back. Long story short no silos ever needed.
@@radim22 I love how you answer this question all the time, calmly. Every other youtuber would blew up in anger. Hope you upload new multiplayer videos soon.
Same strategy but never played HARD. Gave up on the missions in the middle when I was 10. Replayed and finished all at 20/medium. Now 30... Is it time to play HARD?
There is some issues regarding how the computer AI behaves. I have noticed most of the times it changes it's target regarding how many harvesters you have. It does look like a bit of advantage to create multiple refinery buildings, but I notice they become more aggressive.
No, I don't think its like that, because I can focus on buildings, and they still don't attack me, but the moment I build two refinery buildings, or get more harvesters, they get more aggressive.I played it with Ordos last week, and on mission 9 you team with mercenaries and smugglers (I don't remember if this also happens with Harkonnen and Atreides). So is out of question, because you cannot have more units way after entered the game, since their base already is built.
I think it would be cool if you added your commentary and personal thoughts as to what's going on in the game when you're playing. Would help those less experienced better understand not only what you do, but why you do it. Just a thought.
I tried to explain in the description, but did not want to make it too long. There used to be a feature that allowed to put comments in specific time in the video itself, but it is now not available anymore. It would have helped a lot.
@@radim22 I've come back more than a year later as I'm replaying all Houses on Hard mode. I completed Ordos, and just finished Harkonnen mission 9. This guide was very useful. At first I tried to do it without any guides, but kept getting overrun by the amount of attacking units. It seems this is one of the few (maybe only) level where I *HAVE* to rely on turrets. Trying to defend your base with units (Combat Tanks, Missile Tanks, Devastators & Siege Tanks for infantry) is counter productive and isn't nearly as cost-efficient as the Turret strategy. I believe it's possible, but doing it efficiently and, most importantly, *consistently* is the hard part. If you can do it once because you got lucky or it's a fluke doesn't mean much, it's gotta be repeatable. However, I believe if anybody can figure it out and do it, it's you buddy. If you ever find the time to try it, I would love to see you attempt this mission without using Rocket Turrets, and hopefully using a strategy that is repeatable with a decent success chance. Have a good day brother!
@@tylerc5311 Hey man, thank you for your kind words. I am not playing these days, but I have tried it, gave it perhaps 50 attempts and did not succeed. I think the RA version of the game is just really messed up. I was playing on easy and had maybe 3-4x more units attacking me early than there are on hard in the original.

Even had to sell my Heavy Factory off for those extra credits at one point early on (used a different BO from this one), fortunately it paid off.
all is possible. But is really stupid to waste dozen of vehicles defending. The best defense is close all with walls, leave one door open, put two lines of towers alternating with heavy tanks (to kill troopers).

Thats why I skip concrete. You need the fast cash. And I tested it's just about right if you do it correctly.

I would typically try to find maximum amount of refineries I can build without dying or losing harvesters and I manage from there.
When you have the starport menu open, why does the MCV get selected on/off multiple times? Does it enable something?
Cleans up silos.
