I Really like Final fantasy 13 actually however, I don't like how there's people bashing and saying it sucks and it's the worst final fantasy game . I played the whole game and finished it and I like the story line . I get bored and look at the old final fantasy I think it's a bit .. stupid . Final fantasy 13 got me into playing it due to its storyline . -my opinion

I'm currently playing through the first game on PC atm I've unlocked everyone's Eidolon apart from Vanilles atm but I believe hers unlocks in the chapter I'm in atm Chapter 11 as both Hope's and Vanille's unlock then. UI''ve got Hope's as his unlocks as soon as you get to Chapter 11 as for Vanilles I think hers unlocks half way through. I have to admit though I enjoy using the Eidolns especially Lightnings and Sazh's

The Final Fantasy XIII trilogy is absolutely my personal favourite and one of the most excelent games of the franchise, with it's story, characters, grafics and design; and Lightning Returns is the best one. However, I don't say the others are bad; I mean, Final Fantasy VII is my second favourite and Cloud Strife is my personal favourite of the protagonists, but the trilogy is one of the better games
Makes it hard to beleive you have played all the others. FF 13 was a mess and the story was...ugh....ah well its ok poor taste an personal opinion I guess...

Blackwing97 Seriously? FF6 is still hands down (despite it's graphical limitations) a much better contender than FF13. Final Fantasy games are meant to give you a story to play through, enjoy and then end, NOT be stretched out in sequel form. FF10-2 started this bullshit trend and I wish it never did. 10-2 was a barbie doll load of garbage.
The problem with FF today is Japan. There is this trend in gaming (art, play styles, story...) that, to Western audiences at least, is just way too over the top and ridiculous looking. After living in Japan for a while, it's just obvious that all designs cater only to the Japanese tastes. Unless, of course, you're an obsessed fanboy/girl and can't get the blinders off.
cmmiles000 I don't call myself a fanboy (even if Cloud is my favourite character of the franchise), but keep in mind that it's just my personal opinion. And I admit that....I've never played Final Fantasy 6. I wanted to play it on my PC emulator, but at the first battle the game crushed. I saw some videos about Final Fantasy 6 and I feel it has potential, however, since I classify games from my gaming experience, Final Fantasy 13 (for me) is heads down the greatest trilogy ever of the franchise.
It amuses me the way people bash this game. If you feel this way then why bother watching videos of it at all? watch videos of what you prefer instead, makes sense yes?
I personally enjoyed this game but FFX will always be my favourite though.

I actually really enjoyed the summons being metallic and robotic, it was just really different! In a good way!

I love this game, but the summons and the special moves needed to be much more powerful, they were pretty strong when they were used correctly. I think that's what this game really required from its players, technique and the ability to juggle job roles effectively :/
I think the Game is not bad.
Here are too many people that say "FF 13 is the worst Game ever" just because its in and cool to say that.
FF 13 is not the best FF Game but its not as shitty as everybody say.
If you compare it to 90 percent of the other Games today you cant find a Game with Characters like this one.

I think that the Gestalt mode is really cool because it lets the eidolons and summoners work together in their own unique ways! :)

From what I understand, they called it Gestalt mode because they transform mechanically and thus no parts are gained or lost in the process like a regular transformation. I should also point out that FFXIII's main theme in general is transformation making it a subtle addition to the games mechanics.

I guess Bahamut still lived up to its name as the best Summon in Final Fantasy. At least both forms looks pretty decent...although downgraded to a Wyvern and not a Dragon.

Matthew Bane You are almost correct. I just wiki'd it and it said Odin's steed is called Sleipnir and it has eight legs. But I guess it doesn't matter. It kind of suck how Odin became his own steed.
Isaac actually, the reason for Odin becoming his own steed is because he is allowing Lightning to become the rider, thus making her a god for a short time. I thought it was kinda cool.

Shiva, there was two of them. But i agree, their pre vehicle forms are....insulting. At least they have clothes this time.
Odin: Humanoid into a horse due to his mount in mythology. The reason for this is so he can allow lightning to be in his position.
Brynhildr: That was a type of sword/fan actually. It's common in the old japanese days for Strategists.
Bahamut: Your pretty much right, although i don't consider lasers and rockets a downgrade.
Alexander: A mecha into a fortress. How can you complain about this one, am i right?

They can have difference without going extreme futuristic. It appears each game of Final Fantasy has gone further and further futuristic. With FF13 pretty much making the whole thing nothing but robots and tech.,
Final Fantasy 9 did a great job of going back to the might of magic and sword. But ill received as it also betrayed the model of making any unit who you want them to be.
Final Fantasy can change without being nothing but futuristic bullshit. I crave the element of medieval magic and combat. With a mix of mech. Not just mech after mech after mech.
FFXII Is not really that futuristic either. And is far better than this garbage.

Just because this game is different from the Final Fantasy you are used to doesn't mean it's bad. Just let the fans of the game enjoy it without causing any trouble, and the Final Fantasy game desired by those who cherished the classics will come soon enough. Just let them mix it up every once in a while, doesn't hurt you.
They truely fucked up summons in this part ._.
Doom Train was based of a boss which appeared in FF6,a train which ferried the dead tho the underworld (hence the quest requiring all the weird items in FF8). Eden is speculated to be the Dragon Ship which was an old Cetra weapon in which the gardens were based off (hence it's Garden like shape) and Alexander being a mech is because his design is based on the original design for the Giant Of Babil from FF4.
i love the final fantasy series. but after they had the espers in 12 that looked so dope and then they dragged in some espers in 13 that were vehicles..... not my thing
They may have looked nice but they were hardly useful gameplay wise, at least until the Zodiac age.

Five years late, but they're Eidolons.
Me too, and I like how they did both his form, since Alexander is normally a humanoid tower, they decided to make him a humanoid Esper and his Gestalt mode is a impenetrable tower.
I don't see why everyone hates these so much, they're awesome transformers.

Caius was a turned into a L'cie and gained the ability to summon Bahamut. While protecting Yuel, he performed a summon that merged him with Bahamut, this took his life, Etro restored it by giving him her heart.
The reason the summons do not really factor is that they are an ability that belong's to l'cie, since the fal'cie are gone there are no more l'cie. The eidolins are from Etro, the reason Lightning can summon them is she is Etro's warrior.

I agree completely. I played a lot of the original Final Fantasy games, and I adore 13. It's probably one of my favorites.

It was Etro who created the Eidolons, since she's a XIII universe godess her creations are mostly biomechanical, like the Fal'Cie, her only natural creation was humanity and it costed her her life.
the summons in this suck really bad and so does the game, i simply bought it because of the title and i still regret it to this day.
It's best if you try it out with someone who has the game. You may not like it since its linear, and the battle system has changed but the graphics, music and characters are amazing. The storyline is in an 'okay'/satisfactory level. And there's only ONE area where it's not linear and you get to do whatever you want but you can't to talk to NPCs, or play minigames/puzzles. In that particular area, you only get to do missions to get rewards and there's A LOT. Not spoiling anymore than this.

I don't agree. It's like me saying, "Oh, Skyward Sword(Zelda) was HORRIBLE. It wasn't anything like the old games, so it sucked ass." Comming from someone who's played Zelda since A Link to the Past was released. You can't judge a game simply because it's different from the others. Change is necessary, or it'll get old.

Okay, if anyone is wondering as to the state of the Eidolons, PLEASE remember that this is in the FUTURE...in a DIFFERENT realm other than Vana'diel, or Spira, or Midgard, or any other realm in any other Final Fantasy game. I for one think it's an interesting idea, since for the past 12 FF games they were just beings that did one attack and that was IT. WIth this, you get more out of them (albeit with lesser attacks) but COME ON....this still rocks!

I'm a fan of VII but I don't mind the changes, that is what the Final Fantasy series does best. It doesn't get stale, ATB system was added in III or IV, changed to ADB for XII, and now it's back to ATB. I do like the queuing of attacks and each character's Full ATB attack. But I like VII for the simple fact that I can customize my team with little drawback.
These kind of make me cringe a bit. Nice to see something different, but a bit too cheesy for my liking.
@TZLproductions an esper is a creature created by the Occuria, I am not sure for what. What I know is that by the leadership of Ultima they rebelled against their creators - and lost. While they were trapped the party can find them, fight them and use them as summons.

Personalmente prefería los bahamut del 7...
Solo esperemos que el 15 logre redimirse...ademas final fantasy siempre ha sido una franquicia que busca proponer un gameplay, historia y personajes nuevos con cada juego...así que aquellos que pidan que vuelvan a su raizes es pedirles que retrocedan en su desarrollo.
La verdad.. prefiero ver de nuevo a un dragón bahamut y no un robot...prefiero que siga sus raices y no copie peliculas como transformes, o si no vea el WoW imitando a confu panda jaja

I agree with your point about the Eidolons being mechanical, but I found the FF12 combat to be more exciting. If you turn off the pause while you're in the menu option the combat is great.

That is where other lcie come in. The other lcie help out the cieth stones and ease their pain by completing their focus, thus putting their eternal hunt to rest so the cieth stones dont have to worry anymore. Theres backstory in everything in ff13, you just have to pay attention and look for it. It is much deeper than you think

Indeed. For combat, Transforming into a weapon, a mech (2 of them sorta do), or merging with the summon would make more sense if anything at all (personally i prefer just a normal summon, but i'm open minded). Heck the summons turning into vehicles might actually be a nice idea if instead of being used in combat, the vehicle's were used for travel, racing or something that vehicles are actually used for... Though it would have to be worked in somehow as a major game mechanic.

I don't know a whole lot about Princess Ashe, but as for the rest, Yuna is completely different than Lightning... they are both quiet and keep to themselves, but Lightning is more decisive, she acts on a whim while Yuna leans on her friends.
honestly i had no idea he was only part composer in FFX it had a great soundtrack, but FFVIII is my all time favorite, in all aspects not just soundtrack, but libera fatali zomg still get goosebumps when i hear that...but i do support ur point that change is needed but seeing the masterpieces that they have to compete with (FFVII, FFVIII and FFX) its very hard to make another FF that lives up to our expectations

Besides, FF13 and FF13-2 broke sales with FF13 becoming best selling game of that year in Japan and 13-2 becoming best selling console game of 2011 in Japan. So even with all the crap people are saying, they're selling like hot cakes. In the end they are loved more than they are hated.

@JillALPHAteam Choppers can be defined as bikes and helicopters. Which means that cool bisho guy rides a Shiva chopper.

I really like the point you made. It seems everybody is depressed because of a couple games that they didn't like. The series can't be the same thing over and over again. There needs to be change for it to still be interesting. I mean, imagine if every Final Fantasy game had the same battle system as the very first one. That would't be ideal.
The part with Alexander. I had to chuckle at that. all I can think about was "Giant Robo"
I don't know why, but I love watching Brynhildr stomp hard in her heels before she transforms into a vehicle.
Looking at the comments between Blackwing97, Jibster and cmmiles000 it's good to see people can be civil and disagree about games and come to sensible conclusions even if they don't end up totally agreeing with each other. Why can't more people on UA-cam be like this? I've only played Final Fantasy VII and I can't even remember which other one I played after that, I think it was 9 or 10, but VII was the one that I loved. I've heard some really negative things about the battle systems employed since then. Happy gaming people.
I dont know if any of you noticed this but every eidolon or GF (FF8) all are different genders then their owners for example Lightning has Odin and Snow has The Shiva Sisters
I liked this game, but what bugs me is that they needed more Eidolons and the fact that Snow's summon "Shiva" was not "Shiva" but it's actually "Stiria and Nix" shiva's twin sisters.
When Shiva turned into a motorcycle I knew things were gonna get ugly.
Final Fantasy has been complete shit for a while now. The last great ones where 1, 2, 6 (American 3), and 7.
the summons are eidolons not espers, how do you not know that they say that right before all 6 fights with them?
The fal'cie didn't make the eidolons. The eidolons are from Valhalla. The goddess Etro sends them when a l'cie needs a little push. If the l'cie is strong enough, s/he will defeat the eidolon and become its master, as is the law in Valhalla.
And I wholeheartedly agree with you. I loved the battle system for XIII. There were a few flaws, yes. But they fixed that in XIII-2, which was fucking EPIC.
I like this game. I kind of feel sad that everyone is hating on it. I haven't played 7, but I know all the characters by heart and some of the plot. I would love to have it too.
I'm actually quite glad they brought Alexander back. The last time I remember summoning him was in FFVIII. Good times.
I dont get why people keep saying that shiva looks bad in this game I mean first of all the TWIN SISTERS are Styria and Nix they are the twin sisters of shiva and not shiva herself, i know a lot of you know that already and some ignore that fact.I also enjoy her gestalt mode cuz Shiva literally means transformation or destruction, which fits them perfectly. ALL IN ALL, I love them.

In the early games summons were something to be enjoyed. Now it appears that these all powerful gods just turn into vehicles and hop around a bit before vanishing.
it's the "Shiva sisters" in 13. And I think in 13 they're ancient automations or something that was used in a war maybe so yes they change form, I guess it's to show that they're working together or something.
Different approaches to the same thing. For example, in FFXII, the traditional (I consider them "traditional") summons, like Ifrit, Shiva, and the such, are airships.
@therikoforever calm down guy, he used the term ESPER because it is historic in the FF series that the summons are called Espers, in a few games they had a different name but in most of them, Esper is what you call 'em. If he used the term Eideloth, that is a FF XIII in-game term only, some people like me that never played FF XIII would not know what the video is about until you watch it.
Yep, I recently beat FF6 on one... Doesn't mean I can't be disappointed that they aren't making them like they used to.
well 13 has a hidden, much deeper story than it appears that connects it to type 0 and versus 13. thats what makes it good, but its hard to find.

yay a fan, it's sometimes a bit annoying seeing all these comments hating on the Eidolons when that's just how this final fantasy game works. It's part of the world and it's not connected to the other games so comparing the summons is silly.
read the datalogs in ff13 if you don't know what is going on. It tells you all the details of the story including events, characters, locations, etc.
Snow gets a motorcyle, awesome, Lighting gets a horse= it fits, Sazh gets a racecar=kickass, Fang gets a damn dragon=epicness, even Hope gets weapons of mass destrution and Vanille gets uh.......uh.....wtf is that?
I like FFXII's battle style, and some of its ideas, but I think what shocked everyone is the immense lack of any sidetracking, side-quests. The only decent side-quests in the game, are the Ci'eth Crystals. And that is like "Linear. Linear. Linear. TAKE 100 SIDE-QUESTS TO THE FACE! Pow!"
Certainly took a step further from FFX's Aeon battle style. Though I do see a resemblance in terms of the Shiva Sister's Daimaond Dust and how Fang summons Bahamut ;)
Not to mention, where did I ever say they have the same unoriginality of CoD? I wasn't comparing the games I mentioned, I was just mentioning them. Majora's Mask, and the Mario Galaxy games, ya they're part of the games I that changed when I said "almost". Wind Waker, no. You're still Link, you still get the Master Sword, you still go through dungeons for new weapons/items to get to Ganondorf, and fight him. They're great games, but a lot of games in those series are very similar.

Out of all the summons, i really couldn't understand what's Vanille's summon's transformation is like. Shiva turns into a motorcycle, Odin turns into a horse, Brynhildr is a race car, Bahamut is a... bird (what?), Alexander is a castle. So what is Hecatoncheir's transformation?
I am a fan of 7 particularly and watching this I don't know if I will enjoy this. It has some new things, but shiva-cycle being made from two female entities to be ridden around makes me wonder what is going on. I will have to try the game though it seems in either case it will be interesting.
Well I like the FFXIII Eidolons especially Odin and Alexander, those two are plain badass. Brynhildr and Bahamut are also very good, then Shiva Sisters and Hecatoncheir at the bottom.
These airships are named after those summons to pay homage to the classics. the espers in ff12 were based on older bosses from past games, which I find cool. 12 is my fav, but Ive enjoyed every ff ive played(6,8,10,12) and I plan to play more, including this one. I enjoy some alot more than other, but there all ff games, I dont see why people bash a game in a series they love, who knows, people might find a new favorite when future games come out.
Also they call it a "Gestalt Mode" as in a "combination" and yet for half the summons it doesn't really seem like the characters themselves are actually contributing that much. Its like, what exactly is Hope contributing by just sitting on Alexander's shoulder? If you want to have the two combining their strength then why not make it more of a fusion where summon and summoner become one being.
Agreed, design is over the top and really only thing I liked about this game is nice looking environment and fights.
Did anyone else notice that the sound effects that went along with Vanille's summon (and some of the attacks) sound EXACTLY the same as Peacewalker from Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker?
You can't satisfy everybody's desires. And the hunts do tell some of what happens to cieth. After the l'cie turn into cieth, they wander around the world still wanting to complete their focus. Completing their focus has pretty much become their instinctive drive, and they care about nothing else and kill everything else in the way. After many years, the cieth's bodies harden and they become cieth stones. They arnt able to move or hurt ne1 else, but still want to complete their focus.
When shiva transforms into a bike I am pretty sure it looks like they are scissoring! XD

Thats very true, he was/is a great composer. But i enjoyed a lot of tracks in this game. And in Final Fantasy X where Uematsu was only part composer, alot of the tracks i loved were made by the other composers
The difference is, those are mechs and have pretty much always been mechs. Shiva went from ice god to transformer (Transformer, not mech). Personally, I thought these summons were pretty neat and they were my favorite thing bout FF13 (Although, I didn't like the game in general), but I do understand some of the complaints bout the summons.
