49:25 - John is actually telling the truth. You have to remember that RDR 2 only chronicles the last few months of Dutch's gang, so we only saw their decline as a group in that game. In RDR 2, there's an old newspaper clipping in Arthur's tent that states how 3 masked men (implied to be young Dutch, Hosea and Arthur) robbed a small-town bank and gave the money to the homeless people of the area. There's also a camp conversation in which Arthur says to John: "Remember when we used to help people?" And John responds: "Yeah... I guess that stopped happening a while ago", confirming that they used to help people quite a lot back in the old days. So yeah, John is telling the truth when talking to West Dickens: the gang used to have a "Robin Hood"-type of code which probably lasted up until the 1899 Blackwater Massacre (event that kickstarts RDR 2's story and also the event that the "Top Hat Man" references at 1:14:46).
Did they ever state why the Blackwater job went so badly? It seems like the law was waiting for them, or maybe it was just bad luck. I couldn't figure out which was which.

I'm surprised you've had two crashes using the streaming service. I experienced a little de-sync playing Fallout 3 when PS Now was in it's infancy but nothing notable since. It's not too long since I played this on the Pro and other than it's age, it ran fine. Yeah, Rockstar used to have a pretty unique approach to re-creating the world. It often ranged from brutal extremism, to just escaped from the asylum. They pushed the boundaries of acceptability in most of their releases. As much as Canis Canem Edit and L.A. Noire showed that they could develop more grounded work, it was the hard hitting titles that really elevated Rockstar. A lot of long-term fans are still worried by the departure of Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser and Lazlow. Hopefully the future isn't too bland. Despite what the spiteful morons say, the GTA definitive trilogy is well worth playing and undoubtedly Rockstar's most iconic content. None of the GTA titles are critically related, you don't need any prior knowledge to play V for example.
25:11 John is heartless in this game with his character not just how you betray with the gameplay in free roam but how he behaves with his character he just doesn’t put up with bullshit unless it’s his wife Abigail
I wouldn't say he's "heartless", since it's clear he cares about people like Bonnie, Jenny and other characters that appear later on in the story. He's just tired of all the bullshit the government is putting him through and he has no time for other people's nonsense, specially when he knows he's being used by them (looking at you West Dickens).
I've been reading Gone With the Wind...amazing book, great read. I get the strong impression the writers of rdr and rdr2 read that book as well. In addition to plenty of others was well, from Oliver Twist to Treasure Island to Robin Hood. These 2 games have the best writing I've ever experienced.
Is it okay to put tips in the comments? First I'd say you can buy a deed for the Kentucky Saddler at the general store now that you have broken one and get it back if it dies. But you also have the deed to the war horse and might use that horse instead, both are very good. Second I'd say you can buy the room upstairs of the Armadillo saloon and use it to save so you don't have to ride back to Bonnie's ranch. You can also buy rooms at Rathskeller Fork and Thieves Landing. Third it isn't too hard to do the first five hunter challenges and it unlocks the buffalo rifle which is a one shot kill. It works especially well with Dead Eye level 2, since Dead Eye skips reloading. The hunting is something you could do off screen. Also I would say most guns you can get in missions or from gang hideouts, there are only two or three you can only get from the gunsmiths. Nothing worse than buying a volcanic, then picking up another one off the leader of Twin Rocks.
Thats what I like about john he has no fucks given at times haha. Glad you also got to meet Seth haha. One thing I love about this game and RDR2 is each person has the own sense of whats right and wrong. Seth is crazy but makes really good points about stealing from the dead Vs the living.

Why Are You Playing This So Different Than RDR2? You’re Not Exploring At All, You’re Just Going From Main Mission To Main Mission Like If You’re Just Trying To Rush Through It
There are a lot of theories as to who Top Hat Man, aka The Strange Man, is. Unfortunately, most people decide who he is after their first time encountering him, and then never bother to re-evaluate it after they're presented with new information. The first time I encountered him, I thought he was The Devil. Others think he's God, or Death, or The Grim Reaper. But he's none of those things. He's Jack Marston, traveling back in time. We know there's a time traveler, in RDR2, and he's travelling back from the 1930's, which would be about the same time Jack would be travelling back from. Jack would have the secret to time travel because it was in Arthur's diary. Everything The Strange Man knows about John and the Dutch Van Der Linde gang is in Arthur's diary, including the fate of Jimmy Brooks, which is written on the table in the cabin with the painting of The Strange Man in RDR2. When he meets John, he says "I wish I had better guidance in life." Why would The Devil, or God, or Death say that to John? That's something Jack would say to him. Listen to the dialogue during the next encounter with him. The only person he can be is Jack Marston.
I think you forget a "/s" somewhere in there. Time travel doesn't explain away _anything_ that happens during John's last encounter with the Strange Man, so it looks like you're the one who never bothered to reevaluate. Not to mention that Jack looks *nothing* like the Strange Man. They have completely different facial structures, and a few decade's worth of aging wouldn't change the shape of your skull.
@@DovahFett That depends on how time travel works in the game. We never see it actually happening. And you're applying real-world logic to a game. They're not played by the same actors, so there's no reason to make them look alike. Re-read all of his dialogue, and you'll see that it only makes sense if he is Jack. Why does John think he knows him? Why does he seem to know the future. Why would God or The Devil say "sometimes I just wish I knew more about life. I wish I'd had better guidance"?
I've tried to play this game 3 different times and can't last more than 3 or 4 hours...it's just too boring...and I just don't care about any of the characters. Maybe I have ADHD.
48:31 This is where the game’s story really feels disconnected from RDR2 in my opinion. Throughout RDR1 you’ll hear John mention that Dutch’s gang was charitable and exuded qualities of Robin Hood. This is something seemingly forgotten by the writers in RDR2. There’s actually some hidden dialogue that’s missable in this mission where John mentions Dutch by name, crediting him for educating everyone in the gang and talks about they all saw themselves as revolutionaries of the west that were trying to induce some sort of change in the way America functioned. A somewhat socialist philosophy. *West Dickens: I have always been a maverick, John, unshackled by society’s norms. A spiritual bohemian with a head for business. A transcendentalist, you might even say. I’m heavily influenced by the work of Waldo Emerson.* *John: Another fool with his head in the clouds.* *West Dickens: Are you telling me you could read? You continue to surprise me, John Marston.* *John: A little. And why’s that so surprising?* *West Dickens: Well…er…you don’t have what I’d call the classic appearance of a man of education.* *John: I thought you were an open-minded bohemian?* *West Dickens: Oh, but I am. I just…er…well, never mind. So, where did you school?* *John: Haha, school? Nowhere. The leader of the gang I was in, a fella called Dutch, he taught us all how to read. Taught us there was a different way to live. He had a vision of the west becomin' some kind of savage utopia, turnin' bad men into doers of good deeds. And, for a while, we all believed him.* *West Dickens: How deliciously quaint. And what happened to Butch the Visionary?* *John: Dutch. Just another dreamer who woke up, I suppose. After he realized humanity was never gonna change, he lost faith in it. He spoke about as fine as you, and was about as full of shit.*
You're incorrect, actually. Boggles my mind how some people don't realize that RDR 2 only chronicles the last few months of Dutch's gang, so we only saw their decline and absolute low point as a group in that game. We've only seen like what, the last 5/6 months (if that) of the gang's history? The gang was active for 20 years, ffs... There's PLENTY about the gang that we don't know about (there's even a camp conversation in which it's implied that there used to be more members in the gang that we know nothing about). And no, the "Robin Hood" thing is totally addressed in RDR 2: there's an old newspaper clipping in Arthur's tent that states how 3 masked men (implied to be young Dutch, Hosea and Arthur) robbed a small town bank and gave the money to the homeless people of the area. There's also a camp conversation in which Arthur says to John: "Remember when we used to help people?" And John responds: "Yeah... I guess that stopped happening a while ago", confirming that they used to help people quite a lot back in the old days. Arthur even says to Sadie: "We rob fools that rob other people. These people [the citizens of Rhodes], they're just trying to get by". There's a conversation between Arthur and Dutch, during one of Eagle Flies' missions, in which Arthur questions Dutch's bullshit plan of "helping the Indians" telling him that "it's been a while since we've helped anyone but ourselves, and even you know that" (again, confirmation that they used to help people). There's also a low honor conversation with Sadie in which Arthur tells the story of how when he was a teenager he robbed a poor man, which caused Dutch to go bananas on him, telling him "that man was too poor" and that "taking from him was no different from the system [they] was fighting against". It's all in there, mate. You just have to look for it. Both games have the same writers, so I highly doubt they would just forget their own lore, lol.
@@b.u.l.1734 You’re not wrong but I definitely think the Robin Hood philosophy should’ve been the highlight of the story given how much emphasis John puts on that detail in the first game. He made it sound like it was the sole purpose of the gang and that they truly believed they were changing the world for the better. He also still agreed with a lot of Dutch’s principles and that Dutch losing faith in his own ideologies is ultimately what drove him insane. Yet RDR2 kind of retcons/contradicts this idea by having John believe Dutch was always a bad man that showed his true colors as time went on when that was far from the truth in the original game. In RDR1, John, much like everyone else in the gang, seemed just as brainwashed by Dutch for most of the story and didn’t really change his mind until much later on in the game after gaining some new perspective in a different country, seeing history repeat itself over there. And, even then, he still somewhat defends the man Dutch used to be. That’s just my two-cents though. You can choose to agree or disagree with me but it’s definitely something I personally found inconsistent about John and the gang between the two games.
@@jinxthatsme2317 Again, it's fully established in both games that the gang used to give money to the poor. It's not the "highlight" of RDR 2's narrative 'cause the story isn't about that, it's about the last days of the gang and the downfall of their moral code. Makes sense John still has some good things to say about Dutch, 'cause he was raised by him! He also has some good things to say about Bill and Javier, despite leaving him for dead all those years ago. They were once like a family to John. That's hard for a person to get over. It's only natural for John to remember the good times. If you were part of a "Robin Hood"-like group for more or less 20 years, what would you talk about more: the 98% of the gang's history, where you were "Robin Hood" or the last 3 months or so of the gang's life when it's ideals went to the shitter? John's line from RDR 2 saying that "Dutch was always a bad man" is just there to foreshadow Dutch's redemption moment when he shoots Micah. That moment there showed John that the man who raised him is still in there somewhere. After that event, it makes total sense that John changes his mind about him, so much so that he refers to him as "a good man, in a way" in RDR 1 (he still doesn't like him, though, considering how he talks about him later on in the game when he meets him again). When in RDR 1 is established that John "was brainwashed for most of the story"? That's just pure nonsense... He very clearly resents his old gang members, so I don't know where you're coming from with that point. It's clearly stated in RDR 1 that John saw through Dutch's bullshit way before people like Bill and Javier did: Abigail: "That life we lived was just a lie, and you saw it before they did". John: "I know, but they was still family...". Abigail: "A family that left you for dead! You knew the truth John, and they hated you for it". John got over Dutch long before RDR 1's events, lol.

Why do you take so long between episodes of playing RDR? This is THE game.
Nigel kind of sounds like Hosea.
The next few missions are quite good the Seth ones fun
Damn, the first game was pretty creepy
25:11 John is heartless in this game with his character not just how you betray with the gameplay in free roam but how he behaves with his character he just doesn’t put up with bullshit unless it’s his wife Abigail
I wouldn't say he's "heartless", since it's clear he cares about people like Bonnie, Jenny and other characters that appear later on in the story.
He's just tired of all the bullshit the government is putting him through and he has no time for other people's nonsense, specially when he knows he's being used by them (looking at you West Dickens).
The Strange Man arrives!
1:30:22 shit went from 0 to 100 in a second
Lol if you think Seth is weird in this game then just wait till you see him in Red Dead Undead Nightmare
I liked...
Born an angel. Died a witch.
Savage.
Maybe you noticed in the edit but in the house in Tumbleweed you ran past a chest. Probobly nothing too interesting in it though.
Hello Cyn! I hope you had a wonderful birthday! God bless and keep up the good work 💛
It’s the strange man not too hat man lol 😂
according to the rdr wiki
A Pardon Letter is an official document that assures legitimate clemency for an individual's crime or crimes.
Its looks like its real think
That you can have
in real life
I'm certain Arthur's story has nothing to do with the first game so when John talks about his old life he most likely means the events before 1899 I don't think rockstar Intended to make Arthur a main character for the second game while they were developing rdr1
You can make a camp and use fast travel. Keep shooting knee caps pls 😄
26:31 ... Weeeeeeeeeeeeell...
That was Russian boris the bullet dodger
Great gameplay as always.
Oh u playing rdr1 now? Well it's time to subscribe
Also, after you are done with rdr1 and undead nightmare, I hope you gonna give us a bonus episode of RDR2, see all the things you missed
You know you can sell gold bars and pelts at general store you can make a bunch of money they don’t have fences in this game like in rdr2
I saved all 21 cows. Just need to be fast to beat the herd
You missed callander boys tombstones its reference from rdr2
Hitch your horse and sleep your health will replenish and if you have a horses with no saddle it will saddle automatically and save a permanent horse. And btw the horses are all males and they don’t have names lol 😂
Yoooouu Jackass comment to the horses made me laugh haha
and the cheeseburger one to the cows, today 😂
Why Are You Playing This So Different Than RDR2?
You’re Not Exploring At All, You’re Just Going From Main Mission To Main Mission
Like If You’re Just Trying To Rush Through It
There are a lot of theories as to who Top Hat Man, aka The Strange Man, is.
That makes no sense why would Jack know a random man who's about to sleep with the prostitute and cheat on his wife
Loving it 😂
Hi Cyn, hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Did you find Sister yet?
38:21
do yo have play shadow of the colosus ? and by the way, the NPC's in this game are crazy and the side mission para normal🤣🤣
Its not complete yet the top hat hes not the devil though
Use aim assist it’s much easier to shoot
I've tried to play this game 3 different times and can't last more than 3 or 4 hours...it's just too boring...and I just don't care about any of the characters. Maybe I have ADHD.
I guess you do have ADHD.
I’m heavily influenced by the work of Waldo Emerson.*
*John: Another fool with his head in the clouds.*
*West Dickens: Are you telling me you could read? You continue to surprise me, John Marston.*
*John: A little. And why’s that so surprising?*
*West Dickens: Well…er…you don’t have what I’d call the classic appearance of a man of education.*
*John: I thought you were an open-minded bohemian?*
*West Dickens: Oh, but I am. I just…er…well, never mind. So, where did you school?*
*John: Haha, school? Nowhere. The leader of the gang I was in, a fella called Dutch, he taught us all how to read. Taught us there was a different way to live. He had a vision of the west becomin' some kind of savage utopia, turnin' bad men into doers of good deeds. And, for a while, we all believed him.*
*West Dickens: How deliciously quaint. And what happened to Butch the Visionary?*
*John: Dutch.
@@jinxthatsme2317
Again, it's fully established in both games that the gang used to give money to the poor.
It's clearly stated in RDR 1 that John saw through Dutch's bullshit way before people like Bill and Javier did:
Abigail: "That life we lived was just a lie, and you saw it before they did".
John: "I know, but they was still family...".
Abigail: "A family that left you for dead! You knew the truth John, and they hated you for it".
John got over Dutch long before RDR 1's events, lol.
@@jinxthatsme2317 You can read newspapers about how the gang would help people RDR2 Are the last few months of the gang who are desperate cornered animals If they ever make a prequel to RDR2 taking place way earlier than the black water robbery or leading up to it I'm sure we'll see The gang being Robin hood
@@b.u.l.1734 Facts.
Some people need to pay more attention to the story...
